If you got roofing cement or roofing tar on the shingles or just got the roofing cement where it shouldn't be on an asphalt shingle roof, then this is one solution. This method of "hiding" roofing cement is used by many roofers. It is not a secret, but sometimes slips by. It could also be removed and reworked, but that would take hours.
When getting the job done sometimes the "bull" likes to jump around a little bit and it just can't be wiped off. There has to be a way to make the job look presentable.
