Yngsatchvai Oh my god, finally someone who knows about the heffalumps and woozles. Somehow, everyone I know never saw Winnie the Pooh (the worst case: my boyfriend thought it was the cartoon series that came out years later and had no idea there was even a movie) and thus have no idea what I'm talking about when I try to explain things using it as an example for the feeling you get watching it.

According to the Behind the Scenes making of Labyrinth, The Firey's were performed by four puppeteers each wearing black velvet so that they would disappear into a black backdrop. They also had to remove any dust, small white particles, and anything that is reflective from the black backdrop prior to shooting the scene. The one thing the puppets could not do in the pre-digital age according to Charles Augin - _"they…couldn’t make the Fireys cross one another, or turn around, because the puppeteers’ bodies would block each other.”_ It took two weeks to shoot the sequence and another two weeks doing special shots with the second unit to complete the scene.

The great part of Jim Henson was that he could tell a story through a child or teenager's eyes. Creating characters that would last in our minds throughout our lives. Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo, Crazy Larry, Dr. Teeth, Sweetums, Animal, Fraggles, Marjory the Trash Heap, Hoggle, Ludo, Wormie....the list goes on. These names bring to mind just some of the chaotic, yet loveable characters that raised us.

This scene (well the entire movie, but especially this scene) really captures how Fae and magical creatures really behave. Fun-loving, chaotic, and live for a good party. They weren’t being malicious, but they just…are dangerous.

They kind of remind me of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. Unlike every other creature in the Labyrinth they don't seem subservient to the Goblin King. They have a plethora of strange powers and their motivations seem unclear.
@0okamino
@0okamino 6 жыл бұрын
Their motivations are just to goof around and have fun. As a consequence, they aren't going anywhere. That's what they're trying to get Sarah to do. They may not be directly subservient to the Goblin King, but I think he allows them their place in the Labyrinth because he knows they can be useful as a pitfall. Even the worm early on in the Labyrinth is like that. Good intentions, but bad results because he thinks everyone would want to avoid the castle, thus he's probably not a servant, but still useful.

I watched this only to view the comments to see if anyone else happened to be FREAKED OUT by these little guys! I used to have nightmares and hide during this scene as a kid, and all my friends who love this movie have no idea why!

When I was a kid, I just laughed silly when this scene came on. Especially when she starts throwing off their heads into the woods towards the end of the scene. Also, I just realized that one of the fireys is voiced by Kevin Clash, LOL

Dear Brian Henson, I HAVE WAITED MY ENTIRE LIFE FOR A LABRYNTH SEQUEL. There are rumors going around that you're developing one. PLEASE do. This movie is the whole reason I wanted to go into art as a career and it would mean the world to me to see the story continue. I loved your dad and the whole family business; you all created my childhood and I have looked up to you and your father since elementary school. Please make a sequel, if you're teetering on it still then just go for it! I know I'm not the only person greatly affected by your work and you changed my life through this movie specifically. Please, PLEASE, push forward on a Labyrinth 2!! Thank you 'Kylie(the girl who adores the floor your puppets walk on)

I feel like they could do like the Dark Crystal, and do a prequel or prequel series. They could include more into it than with a movie, and at the same time, keep the puppets the way they were here.

Despite all the comments referring to them being creepy I kinda love this scene more than any other scene In the movie. It gives a nice vibe that you don’t need to be serious all the time especially since Sarah had so much stress trying to find the labyrinth. They just wanted her to have a good time 🙁 it also gives a tension break in the movie with the way their song sounds and how they’re trying to lighten up the mood with dancing. I love creepy/ominous things and these guys are one of them
