The Fireys were always my favorite characters in this movie, even as a kid. I know some people say that they scared them when they were kids, but they never scared me. I just love their song and they look like a fun group to hang out with, even with their weird habits. It didn't scare me when they were trying to take Sarah's head off. I knew that they were just playing around, and they didn't understand the concept of taking Sarah's head off. After all, when was the last time they actually saw a human?

I’m glad I wasn’t the only kid who wasn’t scared, but _delighted_ by the Fireys. This song, the dancing, everything about this part got me so pumped and excited and laughing. It’s my favorite part and song in the movie. I watch it as an adult, and it brings me so much nostalgic joy-I feel like a kid again. 1:14 ok, I’ll admit, the first time I saw this guy pluck out his eyes creeped me out. 1:21 Then I thought he tossed them in the air and swallowed them down his throat! lol Yuck!

I was about 6 when I first saw this and it never frightened me either. I might have been a bit startled at first with the crazy looking face and mischievous cackling laugh, but once they got to jamming away at their song, they were just so humorously entertaining, despite the self-cannibalism and detachable heads & body parts. It was all a surprise and totally a bunch of "WTF??!?!?!", but by the time she's snatching their heads and tossing them, I was rolling around laughing so hard. I love this movie, every part, and I always have. But I definitely love this part the most. There was a lot of weird scenes and characters, but this was such a very unexpected and great surprise scene for me. I always thought they were so "cute" in a weird way.

The Fireys are quite cool and funny beings, they were not malicious, they are just playful and like to have fun with their wacky ways and they had no idea about human anatomy, they just wanted Sarah to join them to play with them, The Fireys did not know that Sarah's head did not separate from her body and would not rejoin and that would kill Sarah, the Fireys were not evil by nature, they just want to have fun and have no idea that other beings are not like them, since they cannot separate and unite their extremities like them.

I think it also really helps, though tough to say if it was intentional, that they're performed in a way that completely ignores physics. They don't seem to even be trying to make the head look like it's being bounced like a ball, or make the jumps look like they have any weight to them, and on top of them actually BEING greenscreened in, it makes them totally detached from reality. If physics were more involved, it would seem a lot creepier when body parts came off I think. But this just feels like they're so relaxed that even reality itself has no hold on their lives.

My personal theory: The Firey’s had no ill intentions. I think it’s reasonable to assume they’ve never seen a human before and are probably pretty isolated from the rest of the Labyrinth too. Taking their heads and limbs off is how they play, they can just reattach them and don’t really realize she can’t. They thought they’d be helping her by taking her head off, they just wanted to be friends.
