1968, my girlfriend and I were living in Perth, Australia. She had to have her tonsils removed and while she was in the hospital I called a DJ I knew and asked him to play this song for her that night. When I went to visit her in the hospital during the day, I told her to listen to that radio station that night. She did, they played this song and dedicated it to her. We still listen to it today. 52 yrs. and counting.

Sometimes a song just comes along at a moment in your life and speaks to you again years later as that moment that matters most. This is one of those. When I met my girl in 1961 this song had not yet been born, but when it came out a few years later I was married to that girl and when I heard it I fell in love all over again with her. Then the years passed and my wife of 53 years has Alzheimer's, the song played on the radio as I drove home from a visit with her in her unit and I burst into tears. Love you, hon.

This song always makes me cry... I lost my love on 3/6/22, he would have been 45 in three more months. He was a trumpet player, loved Herb Alpert, and sent me this song to show his love to me. I'm glad Herb Alpert can sing because my love couldn't sing a drop. I would have fallen in love with my love even if I knew I would lose him the way I did. He promised he would never stop loving me, and he hasn't, even though God needed him back. He was too good for this world, and I know when I see him again it will be like we were never apart. Hearing this song brings back such wonderful memories of my dad playing this. 17 years ago while dating my wife I bought her an iPod. I downloading this song on it and gave it to her. It has been our song ever since.

After my BELOVED Dave Transitioned almost 10 years ago, this song came on the radio many times when I was driving in our car & imagining Dave in the passenger seat ( like we did lots) . I could actually "hear" Dave singing along . Got "GOD bumps" all over legs & arms! Many tears ! Yet I felt comforted. Thank you for this song.

This was a very popular song in 1968 or 1969. I was a teenager. I was visiting San Francisco for the first time. I dodn't know the English language so I didn't understand the meaning but I liked This song a lot.

Don't know if Burt Bacharach or Herb Alpert made the decisions but the harmonica is such an understated and absolutely disarming and lovely addition to this recording (and Herb's understated and beautiful voice!!!) This is one for Wiki - whoever it was -- thank you for such a fine and timeless arrangement. Brings me back to early Burt B. specials on TV when Stevie Wonder was playing his chromatic harmonica improv on the piano bench with Burt - melting Burt and everyone lucky enough to be watching and listening to tears with its sweet voice. Maybe that's how the notion came along. Anyone? oh, and thanks for the lyrics, I have to sing and play it solo at a wedding on Sunday! P =]
