Right now, I am watching you hand bind your Kaffe fabric quilt...of nine months ago, and you wanted to know how people find you. Well, I have KZbin on my TV through my Roku, and you just popped up!. I have so many more of your endearing videos and I did subscribe, give you thumbs up from my tablet. I enjoy your videos more than many others I have subscribed to. I am new at quilting and have learned so much from you. I may even be ordering Liberty fabrics from the UK, when I can. I love them. So watching you and the way you quilt, how you use your fabrics, the welcoming conversation you share with everyone...have inspired me tremendously. I am going to make curtains like you made yours!!... I too have cats, five of them. Sarah, Starla, Genevieve, Timmy and Cosmo. I enjoy watching your Norma visiting you and wanting to be around you when your sewing. She is beautiful. Anyway, we love and enjoy your conversations, looking at your beautiful surroundings. Your channel is perfect for me and my own lifestyle. Sandra from California

Darn you Kate!!!! I really am strongly considering buying a industrial walking foot Juki. I make bags/purses with heavy interfacing and vinyls. But I keep telling myself, woman, you’re gonna be 63 years old in Jan, you do not need another machine! And then, you buy an industrial and we’re like the same age, and I start to justify it all over.

As always, your videos are a tonic for the stress of (my) life. Such a lovely, creative, colorful home. The view out your open window to your garden with your cats close by is just so peaceful. And to see you surrounded by kind, helpful, funny ("boom!") people is wonderful.

February 7 2024 Maryland USA; To see the unboxing but of course I have seen you sew on this. How smart is that when John pierced the two holes in the oil foil. This allowed the liquid to flow out slowly, steadly and most important not a mess. I am going to adapt this when I need to. So sweet with Agnes and John’s show and tell and his mom spilling the tea. I can imagine how funny he was as a child.

Position of the table: with the light coming in BEHIND you, you are working in your own shadow. Big eye strain. I’d literally just turn it around so you look out the window etc.

Terry Christens - even with a lamp, being so close to the window the light coming in casts a direct shadow from Kate to her work. FYI, Jane Austen’s writing desk was at the window, with her looking out the window for best light for as long as possible during the day.
@susancheveralllong76944 жыл бұрын
I would turn it side so the light shines on the work, so the shadow is over thrown to the wheel not the needle. You need led strips light from amazon where you can cut to length. Place in the arch.

Love your new machine! I have a Juki TL1000QI. It's not as industrial as yours... I have to add oil a little at a time... about once a week. But I do have a needle threader which is priceless and a thread cutter that has completely spoiled me. I've had mine for about a year and love it to pieces! You'll get used to the bobbin... my old machine had a drop in bobbin also. I also love the 11 inch throat space (the harp space) on mine. Since I free motion the extra space comes in so handy. Have fun learning! Sooooooo happy to see Baby Agnes! What a lovely little girl. What does she call you? Happy for you Kate. You are so blessed...🤗

How exciting! Kate, why don't you try an adheasive LED lighting strip under the neck of the machine over your work area. I saw a youTube video on this idea and it worked great. (I wish I could remember the link. Sorry.) Christine, the head seamstress at the Château Frontenac in Quebec, taught me how to use one of these beauties. My husband, Col. Love, was working at a NATO conference in February. I tagged along for gourmet evenings and the Ice Hotel tour with four empty days to fill. I was struggling with a quilting puzzle, Mosaic Block with a recurrent Y seam, and brilliant Christine helped me sort it out. I enjoyed her company a great deal. She is a dear, lovely woman, who takes care of all the uniforms for over 700 employees. The speed and power of the "Grandmother Sewing Machine" were a bit intimidating but I loved the knee lift of the presser foot, which keeps both your hands free. I found the treddle speed control intuitive after about an hour of practice. The very Best of Luck to you!

Loved this!! Geez, its like the Rolls Royce of sewing machines! And how wonderful that your wee Agnes was there to visit. Lovely! For a light for the machine. I purchased an Led light strip that adheres to the machine and plugs in the wall which I attached to my Husqvarna. It has several levels of lighting (controlled by the switch). I think they cost about $10-20 dollars. Its fabulous and now I can see properly, better than any lamp. I bought a second set for my in-closet desk. Madam Sew Sew Bright Sewing Machine LED Lighting Strip Dimmable Self-Adhesive USB Sewing Machine Light Illuminates Your Work Area for Sewing with Greater Attention to Detail and Accuracy. This is one example but they have lots on Amazon. A good and inexpensive solution. Enjoy your machine.

I got excited when i saw your new Juki. I worked for 20years with a juki at a uniform rental company. I love the juki it is a work horse. You will get use to the feel of the machine and the speed then every thing else will feel like a childs toy. I ran my juki 8 hours a day 5 days a week on all kinds of fabric. From shirts, jeans,coveralls, carhartt jackets, you name it. I taught 2 women how to sew on the juki who had never sewn before. The speed was very intimidating at first but they did fine (no sewn fingers) just a few close calls. This was a great purchase. I think you will love it.

I have a DDL5520 that I bought in the early 90's from a dance company because nobody knew how to run it. they had put the needle in as you would a home machine with the eye facing you and it had to be put in with the eye on the left. I love this machine and I love that you can wind the bobbin as you sew. I worked in a uniform shop alterations room and had a co-worker as about the bobbin winder. I told him that "as I sew so shall I wind" . I love the knee lift. The speed is one of the most favorite things. I can finish projects in the least amount of time. I tie my thread change on and pull it through. Sometimes if the knot is small it will go through the needle eye. Enjoy.

Maybe you could rotate it so the width of the machine table butts up to the end of your work table. Then you'll get sun from the left which good. Also, in case no one else mentioned, there are LED light strips that are adhesive that you place in the "harp" or curve of the machine head and they provide LOTS of great light. I have one on my Juki 2010. Congrats on getting this new machine - zoom, zoom!!

I’m not sure if this is the exact one I have, but I just plug it into my sewing machine’s usb. I would imagine there is a uk version for different sockets and power, as needed. How exciting!!!! Congratulations on your new machine. I have the Juki 2200 QVP Mini. I agree, the light is lacking. I tried lamps, gooseneck ones, adjustable floor and tabletop models, and one that sticks magnetically with a bendable arm. The one that worked the best for me was an LED light strip that sticks with 2-sided tape and runs along the harp space. It comes longer than needed, and you trim it down with scissors before attaching it. I liked it so much I bought another for my zigzag capable machine, and another as a gift for my sewing buddy. Enjoy your Juki and thanks for letting us watch.

You can buy a strip of LED lights to put under the arm area, thats what I have for my Juki TL 2010qi, I love my Juki! I've tried learning how to quilt on a Singer & gave up on Quilting because my blocks were always wonky plus my sewing machine would have problems. Once I learned how to correctly thread the needle & bobbin, (on the Juki) I've been able to take up quilting again. Having a good sewing machine makes a big difference in accuracy when sewing.

But like you pointed out.... the control you have with this machine is amazing. I can control up and down of the needle....every stitch! I am able to sew the tightest seam ever... narrow top stitch and rolled hems a breeze. Love love love.

What a lovely new machine. I used these at work and i love them. Just a note of caution.......be very careful right after you turn it off, the motor holds a charge for a little bit so if someone comes by and touches the pedal....it might start sewing and could hurt if they get their fingers near the needle. And when you change your thread, cut the thread near the bottom of the old spool, tie the new thread to the old thread that is still threaded thru to your needle. Then grasp the old thread near the needle and pull , it will pull the new thread thru your machine and saves time for rethreading.

You can buy a swing light on eBay for industrial machines. I bought a used one at a thrift store for cheap. You can buy a needle threader that is like a little wand, it has a spring that just pushes the thread through the needle eye. You can also buy a finger guard. They are very cheap and come in sets of three for very little money. I bought a used industrial machine and had to deal with the same issues. If you are planning on sewing very fast I would suggest the needle guard for your safety. You can find lots of parts and feet online.

I have an LED flexible strip, that sticks along the inside of the sewing machine throat. It can be cut to size. Loads on Amazon for under a tenner and you can also get a little plastic threader for a sewing machine needle for about 3 quid. Agnes is a little doll, such a tiny little lady.
@bjbullock87924 жыл бұрын
I have the LED flexible strip too & it has an on & off switch on the cord & plastic clips to attach the cord to the machine. What I like about it is the light is directly focused on the area you are stitching & since it sticks on you don't have to worry about a clamp. It sticks to the underneath of the machine & shines down on the entire area between the needle & the right side of the machine. I need to get a needle threader too. The one I am looking at is the Dritz needle inserter & threader. Love your new machine. Agnes is adorable!!

Oh, Kate! Bloody Hell as Ron Weesley would say. I've had my eye on this machine, and my sewing machine shop told me that you can take out the feed dogs to free motion quilt with this machine, then put the feed dogs back in for normal sewing. Please if you try this let us know how it goes. Congrats and best wishes with your new baby!

Love Agnes & that super dooper sewing machine. A workhorse of a machine.

I have looked into a Juki, but was put off by the price. I had an old Singer cleaned up, which only sews straight seams. It is such a workhorse, and fast. So, that is my go-to machine for most things I make anymore. It doesn't bunch up under the needle, and goes through almost anything. I call it my surprise "old cheaper Juki" which I love. Enjoy your new machine. Getting a new machine or rearranging just gives a person a new excitement to create!

They make LED strip lights, peel and stick, marketed for sewing machines. Its a short strip perfect for a machine. Put them on last week. Huge difference. Like night and day! Cant believe i spent all these years sewing with the little bulb that comes with the machine.

I just got a Juki, semi industrial machine, not as powerful as yours. Enjoy your new "baby", Kate. I have to start making these bags because my hubbie came home from shopping and said there was a notice in the store informing customers that there will be no more plastic bags in 18 months. Gives me plenty of time to crank out lots of bags on my Juki.

I love that you were able to get a new machine. It feels so good. Jon (sp?) is an ornery thing, too! I’m sure you’ll enjoy your toy. You can do some fun, straight line quilting on some smaller quilts, too. 🧵🐈💚🐝🌻🌱🐛🦋

I have exactly the same set up. My little Janome for its walking foot and free motion quilting and then my Juki commercial machine for straight stitching that goes like stink. I just love it and I’m sure you will love yours too!

I hope you can do FMQ on a Juki straight stitch - that’s why I bought my Juki TL2010q (haven’t unpacked it yet!)

Amazing machine. However, I think you need to turn it as at the mo you’re sitting in your own light. Norma 🐾🐾💕💕🐾🐾
