There isn't much luxury in this model. The interior feels cheap and made with low quality plastics. If you sit down and knock the interior door panels you will feel zero insulation. Ticks and rattles on bumpy roads. This feels like a lifted and luxury-badged Corolla XLE. For $37,000 base you can get much better vehicles.

I just want to say as an owner, I love mine. I don’t like the new changes tbh. Touchscreen is not necessary since I think touch pad is fine. The new ones do not have the Lexus clock which to me is a classy thing to have in a luxury car. The control on the front armrest is so brilliant and easy to use. That is probably another feature that shouldn’t be removed and they should expand the design to all their cars. Also, I don’t like the painted fenders. I don’t know why people want them painted so badly. The painted ones will get chipped, dinged and scratched so easily. The black plastic is great. I can buy products to restore them back to original condition easily. Painted fender will not be able too. As for the RF tires, they are loud but they are not that unreliable. Mines still got lots of treads after 2.5 years use. I think UX is quite advanced built. A lot of aluminum use (hood, fenders, doors). It means it won’t corrode in long run. Oh yes. It is small but you know it when you buy it. Lol. I fit 4 average size adults perfectly. As a driver, I tend to sit upright and closer to the steering wheel, so my driver side passenger at the back doesn’t complain about space issues. For sure, if you guys are 5’11” + , this will not be a good car for you. Just like the corolla hatch, it is small too ( same platform).

As a 2019 UX 250h AWD F Sport owner, I agree with everything except the height: at 6'4" the UX is still OK - but it's true that it is better if you are somewhere below 6'2". My new Bridgestone RFT are excellent.

I own a 2021 FSport2 model in Canada - best car I've ever had! With regards to the run-flat tires-first thing I did was to buy all-weather Hankook Kinergy tires and put them on the factory rims. Living in Central Ontario, we get some bad weather like you do in Chicago. Now I have great tires that are much quieter that I can run all year round! I have just over 35,000km on it, have had 2 oil changes since I bought it in Aug/21, and my lifetime fuel average is 6.0 l/100km. Keep up the great videos!!

Not often enough oil and oil filters change. AutomotivePress recommends changing the oil each 5k miles. I am doing this for large fleets (of hundreds of cars) and it is working great in the long-term.

I was somewhat disappointed with Lexus and Toyota at the Chicago Auto Show this year. The thing I love about my 12 year old Camry is the comfort. I always expect comfort and especially luxury + comfort with Lexus, but it seems to me Toyota/Lexus thinks that everyone wants "sporty" these days. I don't need my Toyota/Lexus to be sporty.

you are absolutely correct! I wouldn't look at Lexus hybrid if I am searching for a high performance hot hatch. Instead of F-Sports trim, they should come up with the ultra-luxury trim which offer things like 360 camera, dash cam sentry mode, massage ventilated seats etc.

For something like a hybrid, it makes sense to use a Nickel Metal Hydride battery, hybrids don’t need large batteries so the weight disadvantage of NiMH won’t be that noticeable. The other advantage of NiMH is longer life cycles and better cold weather performance.

I have a RAV4 SE and I hate the Li-on battery. I live in an area with brutal winters and scorching summers. The stupid thing performs well about 3 months out of the year. There is no advantage to me in having that craptastic battery.

@@Fadic4 It gets terrible gas mileage. Worse than the gas-powered RAV4. With a fully warmed-up engine, going steady at 35 MPH this POS gets about 15 MPG in the winter. The car is incapable of running on battery at that speed with no acceleration for more than 30 seconds. On the freeway 25 MPG is doing well in the cold. That is with the cruise control turned off. Cruise control makes the mileage worse in all cases. Long trips in this car suck. Part of it is that the computer is poorly programmed, but not all of it. The battery can be fully charged and the engine is running and charging the battery and the electric motors are not even running. Part of it is also that the electric motors are underpowered, but that is not all. It doesn't matter how slowly I accelerate, the gas engine kicks in at 25 MPG. The RAV4 Hybrid is just not very good.

NiMH cells develop memory, so over time, if they're not discharged fully, recharging the pack will become less and less effective. Li-ION cells do not have this issue. With Li-ION packs being lighter, accel/decel would improve, tires would last longer, and fuel mileage would also improve. I firmly do not agree that NiMH is the "better choice" especially when we have better battery technology.

Love our 2020 UX. Flawless for 32k. The only negative is the run flats. I still have about 5k left. But they are harsher riding than conventionals. Next, I put some All Season Cooper (US made) tires on it.

There are 3 Bridgestone runflat tire - Turanza, Dueller and Driveguard. Most Toyotas that I deal with have the Turanza runflats. I can see that this particular UX in the video has Turanza runflats as well and they're the worst of the 3 B/S runflats. And they cost more than the other two. The Duellers are slightly better and the Driveguard runflats are the best of the B/S runflats IMO. I don't know if Dunlop has stopped making runflats or Toyota just has stopped buying those tires but they were garbage. We don't generally recommend switching to non-runflats because the vehicles that come with runflats don't have a spare tire.

Yeah this hybrid gets around 39-41mpg avg which is almost no different than regular gasoline. The cheaper and bigger Camry hybrid averages 51-53mpg. The ES300h averages 44-45mpg.

Cars with this weight (~1500kg) used to have 205/16 and had pretty good braking, but now they're usually 225/20'' and have no real improvement in braking distances, but fuel consumption suffers with each increase in either dimension. I'd say 2l/100km could be gained by going down to a reasonable tyre size. Makes no sense that engines have improved a lot but real life mpg not so much

I think your criticism is fair, but only relevant to the F-Sport line. I just got my 2023 (non-F-Sport) at a higher trim level, and it is all that I could ask for. Yes, they all have the run-flats, and that's something I'll probably change when the tires are done. Otherwise, the 2023 is a step better than previous years with the new infotainment package and handling. Perhaps the title of this video should be changed to say that this video is on the F-Sport series - it would seem less like click-bait that way.

We have a 2021 UX 250h with a premium package (bigger screen) 30.000km. Tan interior with atomic silver paint. Love it for the size and efficiency and fits in all the parking spots around town with such a great light easy to drive feeling. It is a luxury economy car with a really nice interior. It's been so good we would buy it again for a family of two old farts.

new infotainment system is nice, but honestly dashboard before facelifting looks much much better and I agree with You- controls in front of the armrest was brilliant, i had UX250h with it and i really miss it in my BMW 6GT... The question is... where is sweet analog clock? 🥺 Anyway UX is still the best compact car for calm drivers with suspension comfort worthy of being in a higher class (in non-Fsport version and without runflat especially) and even though it is no longer there I highly recommend it

I dislike this car and the decision to remove the legendary 2.0L engine. This fails to be what it tries to be. The 39-41mpg hybrid average is awful for this small car, I avg 36-37mpg with a gas-only 2.5L 2020 Camry. This model will also have expensive hybrid repair and maintenance costs once the 10-year battery warranty ends, all for 3-4 more mpg? It isn't a sports car either and seems to have a very noisy and cheap interior with little insulation. You can get much better small cars for it's $37,000 starting price. I have a 2023 UX Business Plus (Spanish market), extremely happy with it. I agree what you say about the F sport variant but , at least in Europe, you can get lower trims that have all the good things you mentioned and have non-run flat tyres. And IMHO much nicer wheels. The smaller screen is great, I don´t find it too small in any way. I agree with you about the volume knob, but you have it on the steering wheel also so it doesn´t bother me. I miss the analog clock though!

Definitely not full size, space saver I’m not sure, it’s something I’ve been meaning to check. There is a split level boot as you probably know and below that there are some small spaces including areas for the air compressor and puncture repair liquid. Perhaps I can remove the moulding for the lower part an put in a space save. I need to check.

There’s more to it than just ‘power’ regarding FSport badging. Drive a 2011-2017 Lexus CT200h FSport with the FSport blue springs and blue front and rear sway bars. It’ll make you forget that the damn thing only makes 120 combined HP.

I have the 2019 uxh f sport. The seats are upgraded in the f sport making it the most comfortable seats I have ever had. I would get another f sport. I have a 50 mi one way commute. The only thing missing for the f sport would have been dual exhaust.

Love my ‘23 UX Premium. Hated the F-sport options, big pass. Couple complaints is the lack of seat memory controls (really, thought standard and this is a premium). I like the remote start but as a New Englander there is no way to remote start the defrost. Otherwise, after 6-months I really like it.

I bought a 2025 UX300h in the Luxury package here in Canada 🇨🇦(comes the end of April). No need for F-sport. The only issue is here in Canada you can’t get fog lights unless you go F-sport! 🤷♂️

I agree with this! We dropped off our Lexus at dealership for some work. Ended up getting a 24 UX non F-sport as a loaner. You are spot on about the run flat tires. Loud and rough riding. Overall the interior wasn't to bad, but tuning the radio is a chore. The mpg is nice for sure. Very glad to get back in our 22 RX 350 at the end of the day.

Just discovered your channel, very nice. I bought the base model of this car for a commuter on New Years Eve. My commute is 92 miles each way, and I am averaging 35 to 38 MPG. I own three other Toyota products currently including a 1996 Crown Majesta i4V8. I look forward to watching more.

The Luxury trim that we get in Canada makes a lot of sense. You get the comfort and convenience features of the top F-sport trim without the superficial vanity features that don't do anything. I switched from Mercedes to a 2024 UX because it actually is a very well-designed car. Rear seats are not that bad (I'm 5'10) even behind the drivers seat set to my driving position.

AMD, How is it possible that the 2023 Prius and upcoming Corolla Cross Hybrid ended up with a more powerful 197 hp 2.0 Hybrid powertrain while the premium Lexus UX gets just 181 hp? 🤔 I have always believed the UX Hybrid should have the 219 hp 2.5 powertrain from the RAV4 , Venza etc. For the record, I support your farsighted 300 hp, 6 speed manual GR UX initiative because I cannot fit inside the GR Corolla 🤩

Lexus is supposed to be of the highest reliability so they typically like to stay with older technology. You can see this throughout most of Lexus' offerings over time. Half of the time its why people buy them. See: gx 460 (its ancient but the exact reason why people want them)

Good point. I considered the 2023 UX. However, it is underpowered and a bit noisy. About three weeks ago, I bought a 2023 Mazda CX-30. I did quite a bit of homework on it before I did too. It was just an all-around better value compared with the Lexus UX. It has a similar interior with the 2022 UX but offers more power, more torque and doesn't use a CVT. Plus, the Mazda CX-30 is $10K less than the UX. I feel that the Mazda CX-30 is offering Toyota-like or even Lexus-like quality at a much better price point. I have all of the safety features and luxury options without the higher price tax (and with the benefit of not having a CVT).

The one thing I don’t really like about Lexus is that their infotainment can’t really be upgraded as they age. Others are guilty of this as well. The bespoke screens and controls don’t allow you to install a new head unit as technology improves. Go to Crutchfield and see what fits most Lexus models. There usually isn’t anything. Conversely, a 10 year old Toyota or Honda will accept an aftermarket head unit with, for example, wireless CarPlay.

I was actually considering a Lexus UX until I saw the update. I want a comfortable vehicle with high quality (and a quiet interior), plenty of horsepower/torque and something without a CVT. The 2022 Lexus UX was great (although it lacked HP). However, the 2023 UX is just not for me. Instead, I went with the 2023 Mazda CX-30. It has 191 HP, plenty of torque and it comes standard with AWD and includes a quiet, luxurious interior. Best of all, it has NO CVT. Although it isn't a hybrid, it comes with a reliable Skyactiv G engine that has up to 33 mpg. Best of all, the Mazda CX-30 is $10,000 less than the 2023 Lexus UX.

My first Lexus is the 2019 UX 250h, the very first one came out. I enjoyed driving it so much so that my wife got a 2023 nx350h. This one has caviar exterior shade matching perfectly to my white UX. One thing I don’t like about Lexus Enform app, it’s very hard to switch between cars when you registered more than one vehicle. The user interface is lacking so to speak. BTW I brought my UX from Lexus of Orland Park, just couple miles away from your shop. I got the new vehicle from McGrath dealership.

My 2019 UX 250h F-Sport was a magic carpet ride. The suspension & drivetrain was tuned perfect in '19 MY. The ~25HP electric motor at the rear axle helped greatly. At 150k miles I transitioned to my current 2022 Corolla Cross LX 2WD. I do deliveries. It is the perfect tool for my job. Mega durability is anticipated.

Pay attention to your target audience and what they want from your vehicles - reliability, quality, quiet, comfortable. Lexus buyers are not looking to be "boy racers", especially the pretend type.

I sold my 2019 Lexus ux 250. Hated all creaking noises from the door panels. Especially when it was cold outside. Started with the drivers door panels. Then, all of them started to make the noise. Like most new cars, the seats were hard and uncomfortable. Bought a 2013 Lexus rx350. Other than the fuel mileage, I couldn't be happier.

I have had the exact same issue on my 2020 Camry for years. Ticks, rattles and buzzes from 6 different interior spots. Seems to be a norm with most entry level Toyota and Lexus products these days. They added zero insulation to cut their costs and "save the climate". I had to spend 3 days of my life to insulate the car from all interior areas. I'm switching to a new Lexus ES350 and will never buy an entry level Toyota product again.

Whenever someone asks if I am happy with UX, I always say, grate car but please avoid run flat tires. I drove one with Michelins primacy 3 standard tires, it was a totally different experience. I am looking forward to change the tires.

My wife and I arrived at the same conclusion as this KZbin video re FSport when we ordered her MY2019 UXh way back in Dec 2018 when the model was launched: Both FSport trims are a waste of $ We ended up with just the base trim UXh which is still gracing our driveway today and performing exceptionally well as per our expectations(may be exceeded our expectations a bit particularly re fuel economy) for this size class+price range. Don't get me wrong, we did seriously considered the lower end of those 2 FSport trims because: 1) we actually prefer some of the exterior styling details unique to the FSport such as the grille pattern, foglights, wheel design, etc. 2) MSRP was less than 5% higher than the base trim....a drop in the bucket. However, the true deal-breaker for us re FSport are the sport-tuned damping and the 'enhanced' engine sound effects. This contrasts sharply against the core reasons my wife prefers Lexus over other brands - smoothest ride and the best cabin noise isolation(I.e. NVH) at a given price point/budget. Frankly, I don't think her preferences/priorities, as a Lexus target customer, are unusual at all from a product planning perspective..... As for the demise of the non-hybrid UX in N.America, I'm actually surprised it lasted this long in the market. Diff in MSRP for UX250h vs UX200 has always been only around 5~6% or about US$2,000. So by paying only 2 grands more over the price of the non-hybrid UX, Lexus essentially gives you all these extra engineering features: 1) a hybrid system offering far superior fuel economy(many brands will charge 2 grands just for this feature) 2) All wheel drive system 3) 18" alloy wheels instead of 17" 4) slightly higher horsepower but significantly more low end torque. A UX buyer needed to be either completely product feature ignorant or just plain dumb to pick a non-hybrid UX over the UX hybrid just to save two thousand bucks..... On the other hand, it also reflected Lexus product planning & pricing team for UX has some serious issues re market logics: either the non-hybrid was seriously over-priced or the hybrid was seriously under-priced.

The nickel batteries are proven with Toyota going back to 1997. They also don't have the heating cooling issues with lithium.

If I wanted fake engine sounds, I could just do it myself. Why pay extra for it? When we were little kids, we sat in our toy car and made "vroom-vroom" sounds that were actually synchronized with our imaginary gear shifts. What a dumb feature, but lately I've seen it advertised in other cars as well. The smaller the engine, the more likely there are fake engine sounds, just like the toy car that had no engine at all.

After 20yrs with BMW and all generations of RF tyres, I can testify that they utterly suck: tramlining, premature wear (flat spots, unequal despite regular alignment etc.), noise, parasite NVH. Oh, and if you're reading this Lexus, please don't copy German manufacturers!!!

Most excellent review of this UX. You points on Run Flats and F sport features make perfect sense. It’s a nice small luxury hybrid, not a handling power machine. I agree with all you review points on this one. F-Sport is perfect in some models but not this one. Your videos are outstanding and provide excellent product information that you can get at a dealer.

I spoke with you about bringing in my LC to you soon, and I will! Ironically I also daily drive a 19' UX hybrid (f sport) and will be bringing it to you later on as well. Funny how you mention in your take about the runflat tires, absolutely agree, they are garbage on the UX especially here in Chicago winters. I ditched them and went with Michelin Cross Climate 2s, and tires make all the difference when driving a car. Thanks for the review.

If you don't like that trim level, get another one. If you don't like the tires that come on a new car, replace them, someone will give you a decent price for the new set of run-flats. I routinely replace the tires on a new car with what I want, and in this case you'd probably make rather than lose money on doing so. It's just a fancy Corolla, not the peak of automotive achievement. Wouldn't trade my Prius Prime for it, that's for sure.

The run flat tires are advertised as improved over the previous generation Bridgestone model tires. It's not an advertisement for Lexus that it makes the ride more quiet and soft. Just more quiet and soft over previous gen. I have a 2022 ux250h and I'm happy with it. Did 30 k km in 1 year and so far so good. Wonder what size spare I can fit back there so I can get rid of the run flats.

I have the same model and love it. Was told runflats were noisy but I haven't found that. Other cars have more cabin noise, so it seems to equal out. Love the luxury.

I just got a 2020 UX in the shop with an impressive 72k on those Bridgestones, and they still have tread left but have some moderate dry rotting on the edges.

I use Bridgestone Drive guard RF tires on my 17 Prius Prime with 16” wheels. They are not as horrendous as you make them sound. They are relatively quiet and smooth, handle well at 34psi, and yes they do have a stiffer ride, but I’m on my second set and they are good for about 45-50k miles. Absolutely wrong on them ruining fuel mileage, I still get around 60 mpg with a heavy foot and using NON-oxygenated fuel. And they absolutely DO MAKE SENSE with no spare tire. I want to get where I’m going or at least some place safe in case of tire failure. Not stranded on the side of the road with a can of fixaflat, tire inflator and an SOS button.

The fsport is not mandatory to buy. I think they did something fun for those who want a small vehicle with utility & luxury. Not everyone needs an RX. It’s fun and great buy with a lot of standard features, but it won’t be for everyone. It’s an suv in a car-like package.

What cars did you drive in your taxi career? Years ago I took a 'minicab' ride to Heathrow in a Mercedes limousine which was notable for the fact it did not have power windows. On my next trip my ride to the airport was provided by a much more modest Honda Accord.

Hi , the job ate cars . Volvo 240 . Austin Ambassador. Morris Marina. Ford Granada , Ford Sierra (3) .Vauxhall Astra Estate. Citreon Xantia . Renault 25 . Some petrol But diesel was best . All ended fit only for scrap with shabby interiors . Finally learned cheap parts are rubbish . Now driving an immaculate 10 year old French diesel that's Done 23,000 miles.

In the uk automatic transmissions had a reputation as unreliable fuel inefficient and costing more on purchase and repair . Also in the uk if you pass your driving test in an auto you cannot legally drive a manual gearbox car but a manual license gave you both .Foreign imports (ie non European) were seen as exotic and hard to repair . That situation applied in the USA in the old days when you still had a car industry . Stick shift still way outsells auto over here . Toyota and Honda now have a very good reputation now but automatics are for old ladies not "real" drivers . For town congested driving I prefer auto now . cheers@@rightlanehog3151

Since the a spare tire & jack are NOT included, perhaps the “run flat tires are used to get you to a tire dealer. Actually very quiet and the ride, while not as an LS is pretty smooth compared to cars this size. It does have that weird sound in reverse that is common in all hybrids. It does have that silly “ASC” button. I didn’t spend big bucks to hear driving & road noise. I really like the average 41mpg and all the luxury touches., but absolutely hate the way the rear window traps & holds dust & road grime. I would much prefer less slope or a little more boxy rear end that would provide more space behind the rear seats and less area for dust to settle. And yeah took the roof racks off. I would not have ordered the F package, but that was the only UXh in the State and still is. So we took what was available.

Here in Oz the only way to avoid the crass FSport was to buy the povvo base model. That is what we did and the car is fabulous! Smaller wheels, spare tyre. Quiet and smoooth, what's not to like? The base UX is perfect for 2 people. Every single option detracts from the purity of the design.

Well the Internet says that the right-shaped fuselage creates a negative pressure above the plane, generating lift. But a more high-lift fuselage tends to be annoying shapes for engineering ie. this lift is a trade-off with the practicality of the interior space and cargo, and generally speaking long thin wings are best for providing the lift. So it's debateable whether a vehicle with a slightly wider midsection produces enough lift above it at freeway speeds for any useful purpose. You would think downforce would be more useful for stability and traction.

Agree with everything you said. The CVT in the non hybrid UX isn't so bad. It behaves alot like a normal automatic transmission. The normal non-Fsport trim suits the personality of the car better. I always wondered what that sensor for the headlights on the rear suspension was!

2019 UX. I did have to have the rear hatch "schocks" replaced - under warranty. Had apple carplay installed and use Waze instead of Lexus Nav - it's much better. Love the HUD. Love the finish. We have used it on several long trips and it was perfect... Still running beautifully after 5 yrs and perfect for our needs. Have run flat tires too- was not happy at first but got used to it, and happy we have them- never had a flat!

Lexus does a great job at providing those small details, I noticed even the under engine cover/shield (the main piece and the small one for oil & filter changes) have those tear-drop shaped laminar-flow feature (@4:13) ; yet, Lexus can really make a big mistake when they do (You are so right about those run-flat tires which Toyota/Lexus should have learned from Honda Odyssey Touring model dated back from ~2006 where installed) with run-flat tires... not only won't last long and are super expensive to replace. Thank You!!

Looks like Toyota jacked up a Corolla Hatchback, dressed it up with luxury touches, and called it the UX. Looks very nice. Do not buy this if you use the back seat often. It has the same room in the back as my 2020 Corolla Hatchback XSE, which is not much.

My wife and I both have the 2021 UX250h F2... Sorry, I don't agree with you on the run flat tires. Ours are not noisy and no they haven't warn prematurely. Both cars deliver close to 55mpg and hit 60 in the summer. I can't image having regular tires would do better. We both like the UX, it's nimble, has a short turning circle, and is very comfy to drive. We've had the gas guzzling RX, the NX and the UX is our favourite. I do however think the ASC is the dumbest thing to ever be put on a car. Ours are always OFF.

Just put in on order on a NX hybrid for my wife and my son will get her older RX as his first car. We also looked at the UX and it was a little too small for her need. But I would definitely buy this UX hybrid or Mazda cx30 when my daughter goes to college. A perfect little car for a young lady.

7:51 my 2020 UXh with 35k miles has still about 5/32” tires left. They’re noisy and uncomfortable, but I have to say, they lasted me a while and I’m thinking of replacing mine when time comes with same type.

It's because people are obsessed with "Sporty" cars. Most people have never even heard of the term "locking your tires when hitting a turn at high speed in order to gain traction to pass others, yet they claim they love sports cars. I agree that hybrids are meant to be quiet, comfortable and peaceful (all cars should be safe, of course). In truth, sports cars are about the exact opposite of feeling connected to the environment and a sense of peace. They are all about you, your aggression, a thrilling anxiety, and a major ego boost, which is the exact opposite of what most people truly want or need in their daily existence. This is yet another example of companies doing the wrong thing because people (consumers) don't know what they want or they learn about cars from Top Gear. Taller tires help with fuel economy, ride comfort and deflate slower in case you do get a flat. The level of control and precision bigger rims and flatter tires provide are seldom used by the general public, and if they are used, it's usually on the freeway by those people that unsafely zigzag between vehicles at 90 miles per hour because that is the intent of a sports car, to drive as if the road were a race track, a background to you, rather than the world you live in as a responsible adult sitting on a 3-4 ton vehicle. I passed that period when I was in high school and realized it all means nothing. It's way more important to get along with each other, meet the right people and follow your passions and career path and learn to drive with serenity (not slow and not agressive but assertively relaxed. There's nothing more reassuring than a chill person, who is also having a blast without scaring the s out of others. I don't know how long it will take humanity to figure those things out, but It is important.

I would much rather see the UX replaced by the new 2024 LBX here in the USA, but Japanese companies never bring their good smaller vehicle offerings to the USA. The UX has really weird/off-putting styling towards the rear of vehicle. I ended up choosing a Mazda CX-30 over the UX.

In a rust belt state as someone who keeps their vehicles for a long time I cannot stand plastic body colered accent covers over steal. They hold salt and water which eventually leads to premature rust.

LOL it's like the fake CVT shift feel on Corollas. People get used to the eCVT sound from the Prius, the Camry hybrid, the Rav4 hybrid, etc. They're not looking for the sound of the Tundra from these vehicles. I'm sure Lexus hybrid customer aren't either.

For the design initially it was ok HOWEVER when i saw a UX in its native habitat, a silver one in Shinjuku it won me over, driving through Tokyo high rise, the car just make sense. The rear bar light looks awesome against Shinjuku neon cityscape
