I LOVE how you've taken this in a new direction! Have you guys got a vertical design board to pin your hexies up so you can create a design? I can cut you more templates when you run out of those - I have more children's books! I have just finished my granddaughters quilt - it took me three years - so you take your time! much love xxx Kate

Arne, to eliminate paper clips and hand stitching, you can use a fabric glue stick which is readily available in craft stores. It just makes the process easier and faster. You only need a very small amount on each edge and the paper template will pull out and can be used several more times.

Synchronicity! I am sorting the pieces from the jigsaw puzzle I just got from Kate while I watch you two having fun with her hexagons. At the same time I am soaking some sweaters I just inherited. They were made by my grandmother (who died in 2000) for my aunt (who just died this past October at the age of 96). I am sure they are over 30 years old. I am the keeper of the family textiles, including the embroidered table runners, as no one else is very interested in them. I'm honored by the position! You two and Kate add so much to our lives by keeping our hands busy with beautiful and happy things. Please never stop! ❤❤❤

I'm not a quilter so I'm a little confused. Will you leave the paper in the hexagons? If so, won't that make lots of noise? I think this is going to be gorgeous and can't wait for an update!

no - after they sew the edges together and each piece of fabric is surrounded by stitches - they can take the papers out. I leave all mine in until the end and then take them all out - it means that the stitches don't pull on each other. xxx Kate

This is a FABULOUS idea! Kate inspired me to start English Paper Piecing, and now you both have inspired me to use my grandmother’s handwork, instead of it staying in a box. Thank you! I would love to see more crochet, sewing, and cooking. ❤ An idea for the rectangle piece that is too pretty to cut up- embroider something in the center, and then make it the center of a small pillow.

So interesting to see how inspiration and your foundational design backgrounds collide. This is a fantastic idea for people wanting to do a quilt from favorite clothing, especially children's shirts that have favorite characters, special events, and memories from vacation spots. It would come together much more quickly as well. LOVE this. It will be beautiful! As relaxing as Kate's lime green sofa.

Several years ago my sister-in-law jumped up from the table saying "you're crafty, this would be something interesting to you" and came back in the kitchen with a box of things she found and brought home. In the box were many scraps of fabric and also a small bag with a few pieces of fabric sewn together and written on with pen. It was a quilting lesson by someone to teach someone else how to sew the fabrics together. They had written on the fabric, this much seam allowance and so on. My sister-in-law gave me the whole box and many, many months later I had a quilt made with all the fabrics in the box in honour of the lady I never knew but felt so connected to during that time. I did the exact same thing you are doing now. A hexagonal quilt in English paper piecing. It is on my bed right now and I will be crawling under it tonight. Thank you for reminding me of that lovely, slightly sad time. I hope that lady knows that someone loved and felt inspired by her efforts.

Lovely project! It took me roughly ten years to finish my grandmothers flowergarden hand pieced hexagon quilt. It also includes dimond and triangle shapes. Your attempt to use embroidered, thrifted fabrics is so lovely and I believe its going to become a georgous quilt. No matter if it takes 6 month or 6 years (or longer...). And since I love quilting, I would be interested in more quilty projects 😊 Have a nice day and best wishes to Norway ❤

Beautiful! I have three EPP quilts in progress. Thank you for reminding me! I need to finish knitting a pair of mittens for a friend and then I think I will get one of them out to work on. Can't wait to see your quilt as it progresses. It is also super that you are repurposing old textiles. I have been having a major internal conversation with myself about my consumerism and how I can change my ways

Oh I love love love what you are doing with the embroideries. I was wondering what you could be doing with them. That’s so inspiring! The linen is such good quality and there is so much work and detail in the embroideries that it’s lovely to keep appreciate and reinvent them. Loving this idea! I will wait patiently to see your progress 😊love from Aus

Thank you for showing how you make the larger hexies and put them together hexies of other sizes. It's such a simple method- so functional. I've kept putting it off because I didn't want to deal with the math. It is also just inspired in me to put half hexies together backwards so I can make an inner border with them. I see you made this video a year ago and yet you are inspiring me today. 🥰🥰🥰

As you begin to venture in the world of quilting and just how much time and handwork can be involved, I highly recommend The Rules for the Quilt, or some similar name. Basically, it's the funny rules that a quilter would use for gifting a quilt, such as NO Eating on the Quilt! No Big Animals on the Quilt! No Sex on the Quilt! It's written pretty tongue-in-cheek and yet very relatable to those who spend a long time making something for someone only to see it being possibly mistreated (gasp!)I'm so glad you know Kate and her channel; her hexagon quilt of lime and blues is stunning.
