It will do that right after an exercise, but it will usually creep back up a little bit, because your body is still digesting the sugar. At least that's what happens to me. It will still lessen the spike. I usually begin my exercise around 25-30 minutes after my meal.

I’m a type one diabetic so all of this is 10x more important for me. I will tell you right now that exercise especially right after a meal is more important than anything. I don’t care what the studies say about avocado or nuts before having grains, that pales in comparison to exercise post meal. I take 10 minute walks after meals that can be problematic and my blood sugar is extremely good before my next meal and sometimes in the 200s if I sit on my ass after a meal. I can’t stress it enough. Also like you were saying, pizza, cake, cookies, nachos, French fries etc good freaking luck taming that post meal blood sugar spike. A huge reason I avoid those foods and so should you! Thank you for this video, I can tell you know how important this is for heart health, eye health, gut health, kidney health and sexual function. And it doesn’t just effect diabetics it effects regular people too ESPECIALLY those who are overweight or sedentary.

Thank you for posting this. I probably have really bad insulin resistance and started with over 400 BG numbers coming at me this past year (has been in 200s before then). But I got a CGM and I’ve seen my numbers drop occasionally in the 150s to 190s. But mostly in the 200s just in the past 6 weeks. Low carb mostly helps and when I mow the lawn or do heavy housework numbers go down. So exercise will be what I have to do. I just have to watch out because to vigorous exercise will mess with my cortisol levels and currently they are also high. CRP is very high. But CHO numbers good, hardly any sensitive foods except in the medium range milk, eggs and almonds and coconut. I do have some high or low organic acids that in one way makes me glutathione deficient. Working on that also. Tests also show probable bacteria, parasites and candida. So it’s taken a long time to get here, I’m hoping a much shorter time to get out of it.

11:31 As I understand it, the mechanism behind this is because your muscles store glucose. Walking, and other light exercise increase overall bloodflow, which allows you to quickly transfer this glucose to your muscles throughtout your body while also burning some in the process. If this is the case, would someone who regularly partakes in carbs have a lower response to this overall? Or am I misunderstanding the process that allows this blood glucose drop to happen?

Yes, it will go back up somewhat within the 2 hour period after a meal, but it still lessens the spike, and it prevents your body from needing as much insulin, than if you didn't exercise, which is good. The more your body uses and relies on insulin, the more it builds up a resistance to insulin.
@titaniumismagical8643 Жыл бұрын
Most people peak 1 hour - 1 hr 15 minutes after a meal. I usually check my glucose right at the 1 hour mark. In the beginning, you should check it at all different times to see when you peak. After my meals, I ride my exercise bike about 20-30 minutes after my meals. I usually exercise for a 15-30 minute duration. It definitely prevents my sugar from spiking. Most times my spike is less than 115 mgdl. If I don't exercise, it can go up to 130 mgdl. In the morning, even a cup of coffee with half and half (no sugar) will still raise my glucose level by 10 points.

@@rualablhor I usually don't eat a big meal... It's usually low carb. Even protein based meals will raise my glucose levels 15-25 points without exercising. A salad for breakfast (without exercise) will raise my sugar levels from 85 to110-120. A salad for dinner will barely do anything to my BG level. So it depends the time of day for me too. I get blood work done every 3 months. For the record, within the past five years, I recorded a 7.0 A1C twice. I recorded a couple at 6.0, a couple at 5.8 , a couple at 5.7, and a couple at 5.6. I LITERALLY have this going on RIGHT THIS SECOND! SO BIZARRE!!!! I have been 99% no sugar, no carbs, no seed oils/fried food (basically high protein/high fat) since January. I got a glucose monitor in March to start measuring glucose & ketones. It has been absolutely fascinating to take readings at different times of the day, after eating, after fasting etc etc etc. I rarely go out to eat anymore, because it's just not fitting in to my eating lifestyle these days. Well, toDAY, I went out for "Taco Tuesday." I always get a chicken fajita lunch, which is just a fajita dumped on to a plate with rice/beans *(no tortillas for me)*. Here's what I ate: chicken fajita meat with onions/tomatoes/guac & sour cream, with some chips & salsa. I took my readings 3x today. Fasting reading - 8:05 a.m. 89 mg/dl glucose & 2.0 mmol/L ketones (2.4 GKI "high therapeutic level of GKI ketosis"). Fasting still at 10:46 a.m. - 102 glucose/2.5 ketones (2.2 GKI "high level . . . ketosis."). AFTER LUNCH (described above), 30mins POST lunch: 131 glucose/0.6 ketones (12.1 GKI "You are not in GKI ketosis"), and finally, one hour post lunch - 132 glucose & 0.5 ketones (14.6 GKI!!!!!!!! ". . . not in . . . ketosis"). ABSOLUTELY EYE-OPENING!!!! I would NEVER know this CRITICAL information had I not taken my numbers and all that! And, I used to eat like this VERY regularly! STUNNING information gathered SO easily! I have only listened to a few minutes of your video, here, but I think it is divine that you just uploaded this video hours ago after I received these CRAZY SCARY readings from eating lunch with what (I) thought was the better choice of lunch item! SOOOOOOOOOOO much easier to say "NOT WORTH IT" once you start knowing these numbers and what exactly makes it spike up like this! I'm just amazed! Thank you, in advance, for your video!!!!

Thank you for the information Mike. I think it is important to recognize that consumption of excess energy (carbs & fats) over BMR+NEAT+Exercise caloric demands is the primary contributor to fat gain, not necessarily carbs working alone. It is just easier to get to that undesirable level with highly-palatable, engineered calories (not food IMO). Having any sort of a 90% "real food" diet that prioritizes getting proper protein levels can solve energy balance pretty consistently and is a truth every human should know. There is still a lot more education needed on what should be considered "food" because Pepsi, McDonalds and General Mills et. al. are making big profits with the help of the FDA and the US is on the wrong trajectory from a metabolic perspective...the research is in...it ain't working. Thank you again and keep up the good work.

Hi i’m from india, rice is the main source of food, it’s a staple, day and night… i do know that the GI is high… what can I do to lower the glucose in the post meal?
@balasaravanan500 Жыл бұрын
1. Intense exercise before meal 2. A 10 or 20 minute walk after meal 3. Setting the lowest temperature in AC and sitting in it for an hour or 2 4. Half your plate rice, half your plate meat

I get intense drowsiness weakness after eating and have to lay down. I was eating a whole foods diet for the last 15 years this symptom has been for a couple years. I have gone carnivore for two weeks and still get this reaction . Mouth taping irritates my lips.
@jolantawozniak2132 Жыл бұрын
Carnivore is a good elimination diet. Obviously is something going on for some time…. do not get discouraged…. maybe you need physical check up and blood tests, so you know your baseline. Even basic glucose meter can give you some insight into your metabolic health….Wish you the best.

What if your creatinine levels are “above normal” because you work out intensely and have a muscular frame? I was referred to a nephrologist because of this, and after being labeled as someone with early stage CKD and having a cystatin C test done, my kidneys were found to be normal.

I know you mention some activities after a meal. However, quite often I've ready had excercise earlier in the day. But circumstances are such I have a late dinner. Too late for activity after the meal what should I do?
@mikybinns9343 Жыл бұрын
Try before eating, even 5 minutes of mild exertion will blunt the glucose response. I do about 2 minutes of full body exercise with bands and a quick set of kettle bell swings....works like a charm if you don't overeat.😊

I already fast during the day. Mostly OMAD and sometimes IM 18hrs

So how do I test this. First bite in the sweet potato. Measure 30 minutes later, or last bite into the sweet potato 30 Minutes measure? Take a 30 minutes walk, measure again?
@Kay-pq1uo Жыл бұрын
Test BEFORE you eat then test 30 min, 1 hr, 90 min, 2 hr. Mark on notes when you start walking and stop walking. Put all the numbers on a spread sheet to make a graph. Not hard to do but gives you Visual of what you eat and how much you move effects the BG

Metabolic benefits of cold exposure... maybe, but (acutely) it can also lead to a myocardial infarction. That is how my father-in-law departed this earth: cold January day, after a family celebration (another classic risk factor), he spent time in the cold (waiting for underground train) and he just lost consciousness on the train... firefighters (that happened to be nearby) did CPR on him, he briefly came back but surgery was not successful (blood pressure dropped) and then hospital removed life support (before family could agree). If you are over 70, watch your back as hospitals are biased towards letting you die.
