Some people see an increase in their LDL cholesterol when they eat a keto diet or carnivore diet but is this cause for concern? High cholesterol on keto is not unusual and might not mean you are at a greater risk of heart disease. Triglyceride to HDL ratio can be more significant. 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗞 𝗧𝗢 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 ↓

Good video Thank you! I"m doing KETO for over TWO YEARS now, Question.... It is bad my total cholesterol? - TOTAL: 427, the LDL 328, my doctor is panicked when he sees my result, he want to give me Statins! My TRIG: 102, GLUCOSE: 87, A1C: 5.3, KETONES: 1+ ( I was looking for someone who can understand my result?, thank you!)

I shocked my doctor with the following blood work results: total cholesterol: 526, LDL: 380, HDL: 149, LDL-/HDL ratio: 2,55, Triglycerides: 44, fasting blood glucose 84. My doctor said, he's never seen anything like that before, lol. He said I'm healthy and I don't need a statin. I'm glad he has a sense of humor! I was scared that he would pressure me into taking a statin

I'm glad your doc didn't pressure u to be on a statin. My chol is similar to yours (565 total, >350 ldl, 109 hdl, 119 trig, chol/hdl ratio 5.6 and trig/hdl ratio 1.09) and he sent me to a lipid specialist and freaked out that I'd have a stroke. 🤨 I'm an athlete and petite, and he's never seen levels like mine. So, with these levels, I shouldn't be worried? I guess my concern is that my trig rose from 49 to 109 within 4m. My chol doubled. And my ldl tripled.

Yes, my triglycerides and LDL were similar to yours (from prior to adopting a basically carnivore diet four months ago, my triglycerides were basically unchanged, my LDL up by almost 2X). My HDL was up about 25% (into the 80s). My triglyceride to HDL ratio was a little over 0.5, so also pretty good. I thought my PCP was going to tell me that my cholesterol was too high, but he told me that my rise in HDL basically offset the rise in LDL and he was not concerned. I'm sure you know that the interpretation of the increase in LDL (benign vs. freak out) is controversial to say the least. I'm going with benign for the time being.

Yes I have.......I’ve called the surgery today for the results of my blood test done last week. My cholesterol has gone from under 5 to over 9 and the surgery nurse would like to discuss the way forward with me. That’s not going to happen :) Since I started Keto late November/early December 2020 and carvinire 2-3 months ago I’ve been listening to so many different talks on YT that I understand that the cholesterol guidelines aren’t necessarily a good indicator of health or longevity. So following this talk of yours I called the surgery again and asked for the breakdown: LDL 7.5mmol/ml, HDL 1.70mmol/ml TG. 1.07mmol/ml I’ve put the TG and HDL values into the blood code calculator and was pleased to see that I am with the optimal range. That’s enough for me. :) I changed my eating habits after finding abnormal kidney results which 17 months apart had deteriorated and no one thought to advise me that there was a problem on the horizon. Although I haven’t seen the new test results for my kidneys my understanding from the call I made today for the results is that there’s a significant improvement since 2019 so I know I’m on the right track. Thank you so much for this clear explanation. :)

Hi Kait...this is awesome!! You’ve outdone yourself. ❤️ I think another great question in the cholesterol confusion would be to address what happens when people “combine” a high fat/meat diet with sugars and starches, if you ever want to cover that one! :) . I believe if you can ever address this with some examples of people who have tested that eat ALL the foods (just as a point in comparison if they are willing to inform others), it would help people to understand from another angle, that the problem is not meat and fat. -You prove it so beautifully here as a meat/fat consumer (and some veggies now) and there are many other carnivores and Ketovores who have also shown this to be the case. And while we are not ‘you’ or ‘them’, I think having as many testimonials to this Lifestyle to draw from (with accurate testing), can help support, educate and enrich so many others. TY for all that you do!

I was told to get off of the low carb and take a pill. I said no thank you and I stuck with it and it leveled itself out. I lost 54lbs in a year. I go tomorrow to have my yearly blood work done. My TG:HDL was 2.3 in July (this year), 2.8 in Dec so the results are encouraging. I'm healing my insulin resistance. My LDL however went up above dangerous level 🤣 5.5 mmol/L in Dec and up again to 7.51 mmol/L in July. I swear the Docs had aneurysm when I said no to statins 😏😏😏 My blood glucose went down below Low in July but I don't feel weird during that time. I have reach normal BMI last month but I still have some belly and upper thigh fat but I'm not even worried. It took me 1 year and 29 days to get to normal BMI so I will give myself another year to tackle the remaining excess fat 😁 36kg lost. Maintenance was achievable and not hard to sustain. It is the mind game now when we are at maintenance mode. My next lab works will be reviewed on the 14th. Looking forward to see improvements 😎😁

I'm glad I found this posting. My Dr. looked at only my total Cholesterol and LDL values. She did not remember that I have a Cholesterol gene from my Mom. I began a Keto diet a month ago and lost several pounds. With the Blood Code for my Tri to HDL ratio it is 2.2. BTW, my Dr. wanted to place me on Lipitor immediately and was not up to discussing possible supplements that might help! I'm not a fan of taking drugs when there are natural avenues to pursue as well. I'm so disappointed in my Dr. Everyone seems to push pills! I'm not a fan. Thanks again for posting this!!!

You always show up with exactly the video I need to see when I need to see it! I was/am so discouraged/ worried/ angry/ and confused by my latest lipid panel. I've recently stopped all my medications but am still IR. My A1c went from 8.2 to 6.5 currently but despite the fact that I'm only taking in carbs with a daily avocado, and I've lost 40lbs., my resistance is being, well, resistant. My current ratio is 2.6 (trig: 136: hdl: 53mg/dL) My overall cholesterol is 250. My doctors, general practitioner and endocrinologist both love the changes I'm making, but gp is worried that some of my high numbers could be genetics. I don't know how to respond to that. I don't know if that means I have to go back on meds or not. I'm still obese, lost 90lbs, have 50 more to go. I'm crossing my fingers that IF, and more weight loss will resolve my other problems. I'm still banking on my keto-carnivore lifestyle. It's sustaining, I'm never physically hungry (I'm constantly battling mental hunger cuz I was trained by the SAD), and I feel great at 62. Now that I've made this all about me, back to you. Your advice is solid, your resources are sound and I'm glad I subscribe to you. 🌻

Keto-vore for 2+ yrs, my lab results were essentially the same as Kates. Thankfully I have a Dr who understands the reasoning and the science. My mom's labs were also similar and her Dr (former Dr now) was pushing for statins. It's important to find a Dr who thinks more along the lines of a scientist and is willing to change with what science supports vs cling to the archaic dogma.

I got some tests done two month ago, 40 yo, swede, male. My numbers were Trig 0.5, HDL 2.0, LDL 4.3, Cholesterol 6.5( not sure what that number is, guess it's some overall number they calculate ), fasting blood sugar 4.3, 5.8 after drinking the glucose solution( 90 min in between not a full 2 hours). I don't eat keto, rather a sort of "hybrid diet" that include carbs, lots of fat and dietary cholesterol. Tons of meat, lots of organ meats, lots of butter, lots of coconut fat, all dairy highest fat content I can find( drink non homogenized milk with 4.5% fat for example), around 4-6 eggs per day etc. I don't eat gluten, zero processed foods and sweets, very little fruit, mostly berries I pick myself and absolutely no vegetable oils. Some years ago I did a low carb diet but found I performed better in rowing, which I'm pretty serious about, with carbs so went back to include it. Happy with the results but I did get a talk with a nurse about how I should try and lower the amount of saturated fat in my diet, switch to vegetable oils for example, not eat so many eggs, switch to low fat dairy products and so on( I filled out a form about my diet before the test). She said she wasn't worried since I was in such good shape and had good glucose numbers but she thought the cholesterol were to high and that I needed to take that into consideration going forward. I just sat quietly and nodded my head, no point starting an argument. The cholesterol number of 6.5 for example she wanted to be lower than 5. My HDL and LDL was also according to the Swedish recommendations borderline. The upper limit here is HDL should be below 2.1 and LDL below 4.7. My impression was the Swedish medical field seems to be like 30 years behind the times. Felt very outdated.

Hi Coach Kait, I just got my test results today and it was very disappointing to see the cholesterol numbers: total 279, LDL 167, HDL 105, TG 35 and VLDL 7, no insulin value in this test. I am doing low carb with IF 18/6 5 to 6 times a week, exercising weights 5 times, running 30+ minutes 3 times a week...Not overweight, but don´t lose any pounds...137 pounds or 63kg , 51 yo, 5'2' , no menopause....I do not know how to interprete these results, only that I see my triclycerides are pretty low together with the VLDL...seems good but the total cholesterol seems crazy...no diabetes or high blood pressure, quite the opposite my blood pressure is on the low range 90/70mmHg.. The Triglyceride to HDL ratio in that bloodcode calculator turned out to be 0.3...even lower than optimal! I do get cold and numb hands and feet occasionally... Please help me somebody to understand this!

I was diagnosed with a fatty liver 6 months ago and I went on strict carnivore. I just got my blood test back and everything is great (insulin level, inflammatory markers, c peptide level, Hemoglobin A1Ç) .. The only thing is my cholesterol, including LDL is high. I'm not sure how worried I should be, if at all. I guess I was looking for confirmation that I'll be ok. My doctor has told me to stop carnivore to bring down my LDL cholesterol. I didn't want to do that since I've lost 30 pounds and fixed my fatty liver. This video is making me question whether he's right.

I recently asked my cardiologist about all of this & she told me HDL/TG ratios are irrelevant, and the biggest risk is high LDL. I told her about the studies that supported my argument, she replied about studies that supported her position. This was after she praised me for losing 30lbs in 2 months (didn't ask what my diet was...its been carnivore). So it's fair to say she will probably freak out next time I get my cholesterol checked.

Cholesterol essential for health: It is 30% of the cell membrane where it provides fluidity and transport functions; it is the precursor for the production of testosterone, oestrogen and Vitamin D. As dietary cholesterol is esterified it is very poorly absorbed in the gut and so has little effect on blood cholesterol. Therefore the body has to make most of the cholesterol it needs. The organ with the most cholesterol is the brain, which is why a diet high in saturated fats cures epilepsy.

My LDL cholesterol only got bad this past year ( it went from 60-111). I had been on a ketogenic diet for two years before hand ( three years total)Then decided I was going to see how much fruit I could get away with eating. i’m on a ketogenic diet due to autoimmune problems so I was curious what foods I could get away with eating while maintaining a high fat low carb diet. Well when you’re not tracking your macros or measuring anything It’s very easy to indulge in “ keto sweet things”. It may have been natural sugar but it was still sugar and I was consuming way too much of it. My cholesterol went up and my sugar cravings came back. I am now on a carnivore diet trying to repair the damage that I have done in the last year. I originally was going to go back to keto after I was done with this experiment. But I’m loving carnivore so much I’m not so sure if I want to do that 😁
