More Thanks to Ian for the fitting and swing changes. Everyone says it here in the comments, but his knowledge of equipment and the swing, and what will work for who, is truly unbelievable to see and in my case, be fortunate enough to witness. As mentioned by all three of us during this video, my swing speed was down a bit by the time i got to the last set of shots with both the SFT and my driver. But even with that, the difference in that Fujikura shaft, still allowed me to make some very solid contact. Thanks to everyone for the positive comments, I hope to see Ian and Matt again in 2019 and show them an even more improved "Rob swing"

I had a driver fitting today with Chris at your Burlington location and, like Rob, had a very positive experience. As an older golfer who hasn’t played in about 10 years, fatigue and rustiness all played a role in my performance and Chris, bright fellow that he is, was extremely patient and helpful. To make a long story short, we’ve narrowed it down to Callaway Rogue, senior specs. ie. lots of loft and a flexible shaft. Best of all, Chris suggested I come back after a trip to the range and a bit of practice. He wants me relaxed and fresh before we commit to getting that Rogue built. No extra charge for that extra visit. It won’t take long but he wants to get it right. That’s a commitment to excellence! Thanks guys.

Really so impressed with your philosophy re fitting AND instruction during fitting to overall affect his results. Kudos Ian and Matt. Blown away by your detail in the process. Great vid.

Thanks Rob and TXG very interesting. The downside of having trusted equipment is there is nothing to blame the unfortunate shots on only yourself, so with that said stop this sorcery and witchcraft ;-). Keep up the great work! I tried the Ping G400 Max and they put me in the SFT. When you first started with him I thought the SFT would be where he would end up. Great stuff Matt and Ian. I tried the Draw Rogue yesterday and was surprised how my misses to the right stayed straight. Proper fitting is so important.

Awesome job once again guys! Great demonstration of how a proper fit with a the right approach (75% fitter/25% coach) leads to more optimal results and equipment decision making. In this case, Rob purchased a great driver with the G400Max, however, if he had the proper fit initially, he would have been put into the more appropriate Ping head from the get go. Have you guys had the chance to speak with Ping to better understand why the SFT is not offered in the G400Max? Seems to be a better product assortment, marketing and sales strategy to provide the SFT in the Max head (broader target market) and the LST in the standard head. (better player market). Also, is there any adjustment possible to make the Max more draw biased (thinking of weight addition methods)?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
The MAX can be closed 2 degrees which is actually how Rob had it configured when he came in. Wouldn't be a bad idea for them to consider an SFT version of the Max - although the whole G400 series is pretty forgiving.

I just stumbled across this one and wanted to ask a question regarding the G400 sft fitting. I too have a path issue but not quite as significant as Rob’s. I prefer feeling the head behind me which I feel may help with a more inside to out swing path. I am considering replacing the 10 gram gold weight with a13 gram. Could this help with path delivery and better face contact? Thanks again for your great content.

Rob definitely was very close to being on the right track on his equipment. Poor guy got rid of the right irons and needed a slightly different ping driver. Great work guys!
@CarolinaGolfer26 жыл бұрын
Exactly Michael...As it turns out a big mistake to get rid of the Srixons, it certainly wasn't due to the clubs, just the nature of "equipment junkie" life cycle. As I told Ian off camera, I strongly considered the SFT but felt the increased MOI of the Max would help my accuracy. He then mentioned while it is near 5900, the SFT is right at 5000 which is certainly more than most on the market and should be enough for me...and it was as evidenced by the dispersion circles in the fitting.

Thanks Robert...Actually what I have done, is ordered the Shaft that Ian fit me in (fujikura pro 2.0) for my current 400Max driver. Not so much a draw, but definitely a straight flight, and a few more yards. I'll report back after more rounds get in the books

Worth a demo, the G400 line is extremely good when it comes to forgiveness and ball speed. But you'd need to do a side by side to see how it works for you.
@hoopsfever826 жыл бұрын
Richard, I had the G30 previous to the 400 Max, for me the 400 is better all the way around, distance by few yards, not tons, but a few however consistency is so much better. I rarely miss a fairway with it.
@richardgatehouse15206 жыл бұрын
Rob C Thanks for the feedback, out of interest did you try any others drivers before going into the 400
@hoopsfever826 жыл бұрын
Yes, in addition to my 400Max we tried the Rouge, the M3 and M4 and finally the G400 SFT. The results were all fairly close in distance, the Rogue gave me the best distance when hit well, but also some of my worst misses. The M3 and M4 were just OK didn't stand out either way good or bad. The SFT proved the tightest dispersion of all them when it was all said and done. It should also be noted as mentioned in the video it was the very last driver I swung, so I was pretty much running on empty after 5 hours. We all believe my distance and club-head speed on it will be much better when I get on a LM fully rested, which I haven't had a chance to do since the fitting.

You guys really have an amazing channel. Rob and I are fairly similar in many respects - age has decreased my average drives from the 250-260 average down to 217. I seldom lose balls to the right, as my shot path at the moment is very straight with most misses being a low hook. Playing a Ping G25, set at 10-degrees with a regular flex stock shaft, I do feel very lucky that I hit it straight and find the fairway on most shots. But like Rob, I’m often hitting 5W, or 4H into greens on my second shots. So of course, I’m looking at new drivers, especially the Ping G400 Max. Would moving to a SR or senior flex instead of Regular flex provide any distance benefit, or should I remain satisfied with keeping the ball in the fairway on a consistent basis?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Depends on a lot of factors, if the senior flex shaft influenced your club path to be better, club face to be more square (just as an example) then perhaps you could gain some distance that way. Depending on your swing the senior flex could in fact cause you to lose distance, a proper fitting would really be necessary to find out what's best for you.
@monotts52186 жыл бұрын
Great video, but it does prompt me to ask a question that has been bothering me for some time and in particular with my game. Modern Drivers are designed with a light head and shaft - "saving weight so we can generate more clubhead speed". Problem I have is that I have little "feel" with modern Drivers, the result of which is that the longer the shaft - Drivers are usually around 45" - the less I sense where the clubhead is on the backswing + I lose rhythm and tempo. How do you as a Fitter deal with this? Do you reduce the length of the shaft, or put in a heavier shaft but that would lose the "feel" of the head even more or use a heavier head?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you're someone that benefits from a higher swingweight configuration in the driver. This can be done by using heavier weights in clubs that allow swappable weights, also can be affected by the shaft choice.

Wouldn't go to a lighter shaft just for the swingweight (unless there's other performance factors you want to influence with a lighter shaft as well), look at adding weight to the heads first if you can.

I recently got access to a GCQUAD and had to go to the driving range. Granted range balls are not like course balls but the question is, I could get 80mph( 155 carry) with my 6 iron (2013 ap2's) but I could not get more than 84-85 (117 ball speed) with my driver.(2016 TM M1, Matrix white tie 5x3 R shaft). Is it because of range balls or possibly head/shaft combo (launch 13.3, spin 3132) 173 yards. I know on course I can get 205 carry ( sometimes ). Don't know if its range balls, shaft or just me. Do you always trust the GCQUAD numbers to real course numbers. Also is it possible to get 1.55 smash factor. Thanx I know I am picking on your knowledge. I have no idea what my club swing weight is or if my shaft is correct for me. I have a stiff flex shaft that’s 60g which plays 1/2” shorter then a standard Callaway XR16 pro (45”)... I just can’t seem to find the middle of the club face... I’m unsure if it’s my club head/shaft combo but I’m playing it at 9 degree and hit it incredibly high and always hit a push fade out of the heel... I don’t know if it’s my swing (out to in) or my club... Also do you ever fit people for the standard Epic? It seems that with the sliding weight it may work for some people and it’s pretty similar to the rogue?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
A lot of variables involved there Logan, difficult to give you a recommendation on why you're struggling with the driver via the comments. Best thing to do would be to demo some different configurations and see what tends to improve your strike pattern and dispersion.

Can you explain driver lie,I notice the toe on drivers is always upright I know it doesn’t Hit the ground but does it affect where on the face you hit the ball and direction. Can a driver lie be too upright or too flat.Thanks
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Modern drivers tend to be more upright, as most golfers miss with a slice or push. The dynamic lie angle can affect the direction, more upright the ball will tend to start more left, more flat the ball will tend to start more right. (for a right handed player)

So I have a problem which I consider to be pretty big, I don’t hit my driver very far only about 180 yards I have a slow swing speed and I’m using a senior flex shaft with 13.5 degrees of loft. What should/could I do to gain some distance? I had considered getting fitted but sense I’m still growing I have decided to not get fitted because I would soon grow out of what I got fitted for. Any help would be greatly appreciate and thank you for your time

If your driver is giving you good launch conditions (which you would need to schedule a fitting to find out), then look into something like the SuperSpeed golf system for a realistic way of increasing clubhead speed.

He stands straight up prior to contact. If he can't stay down through impact, he'll never have a neutral swing path, never mind an in to out path. If this is due to some psychical limitation, he should change his setup to a more vertical stance at start. This way his distance to the ball doesn't change, demanding a delivery adjustment (out to in). Look at some long ball guys to set up standing straight up to to lack of mobility still creating an in to out delivery.

Love these videos keep them coming. And as you mentioned Ping has come through again with SFT. Hope Rob Plays well. Btw how is big Sam??? Has he beaten Matt yet lol

Just played with Sam yesterday! His swing and game are definitely improving, he's gone down a couple strokes on his handicap already.

@TXG/ Matt: Nice to hear good news about Sam!!👍🏻 Got a question: how do you improve your HCP in Canada? Do you have to participate in an official tournament and change the HCP in a special HCP-depending system or can you just are allowed to go to the pro and tell him afterwards you played a good round of golf and he gives you the the HCP?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Yes any attested round (where a playing partner signs the card) is entered into your handicap and factors in to the number. There are different softwares/apps that do it, but most here use the Golf Canada system where you just enter you scores after each round and it calculates a handicap for you.

Thanks Matt. Here in europe it`s kind of different. Only in an official tournament you can change your HCP. But since a few years we have "extra day score" rounds of golf where your playing partner signs the card. It must be announced to the pro in advance and you can change your HCP in both directions😉

How about a high to medium handicap Driver fitting for someone who fights hooks and has a low spin problem where the drives at times can com off like a knuckle ball!! Thats my issue and I know someone else with the same issue

Can I be rude and ask how old this gentleman is?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
We didn't ask actually, maybe Rob can chime in!

Sorry, not rude at all. But missed this until now. I turned 59 two weeks before the fitting. It was a birthday present to myself :)

Belated Birthday wishes and keep swinging. I'm 60 and am having to work very hard to maintain what modest distance I have.

Yep, definitely think that Rob is a long lost relative....... this is getting spooky! When I come over for my fitting I am willing to bet already that it will be a close call between the Max and the SFTecand that Fuji Pro shaft looks Awesome. I also agree with moorjersey3 that the incidental music that you use for the Vids adds to the overall quality. So many Vloggers use music that is irritating and intrusive.

LOL..Well Bandit, they say everyone has a clone somewhere. Glad you found it helpful, and I'm sure you will enjoy your time at TXG just as much as i did. And I'll echo your comments on Matt's editing, just a masterful job makes it some of the best viewing on the net.

No disrespect, but lessons, exercise, and stretching would be much more practical than a fitting, no?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
The video showed the value of identifying a player's weakness during a fitting, helping them with that swing change and recommending equipment that helped influence that swing change.

He got a lesson and fitting in the same session.

What's wrong with lessons, exercise, stretching, and a fitting? Well done guys.
@Jeremy_Walker6 жыл бұрын
There is little point in fitting until a person has a fundamentally solid swing. People will argue with anything, but that seems pretty logical.
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Walker Hi Jeremy, Ian here. I say this with no intention to offend, but you are completely wrong. I can categorically say that club fitting helps people of all skill levels. We work with both consistent golfers and inconsistent golfers and all receive improved performance as a result of optimizing equipment. Appreciate you watching the channel though and sharing your opinion, we love how interactive the channel has become. 👍🏻
