Yes! This my favorite type of content by you guys. Deep dive into it a normal golfers fitting and how you guys go about changing spec to dial in the settings. Don't get me wrong I like the "Iron Byron" videos (videos with Matt), but seeing a true fitting for someone who gets a real gains is interesting to me. I'm 36 (and have played for 30 years) and have never had the chance to have a real fitting, that's just small town living. But love seeing this type of stuff, like when Sammy came in awhile back. It's just cool to see the gains. But don't get me wrong, I love the deep dive into scratching out a few yards, or better flight/dispersion on a scratch golfer as well.

OMG! I think you guys just gave me the answer I need. I'm only a few months into golf but as I picked up things quickly, I began to struggle with my driver M1 2017 10.5 + UST Attas T2 6R where I'm now hitting moonshot and often a slice. Now I can't do a full swing but have to slow it down and do a casual swing like when I began to get a straight shot of about 250yard carry. And it made me think about issue with shafts where this video seem to confirm it. Thank you so much. Would love to get fitted by you guys... but unlikely to happen since I'm in Thailand.

Excellent video. My miss is the high spinning high flier out to the right. I was fitted for an M1 12* with a stock Fujikura XLR8 Pro shaft almost 3 years ago. I have the weight set all the way to the draw setting but i just feel like the stock shaft isn't quite right, and its too inconsistent. I do stripe my drives at times but the right miss always shows its ugly face. I'm definitely going to look into another professional fitting to see if i can get the same results you got here. I love your philosophy of making the extreme change, seeing how that went then dialling it back incrementally to get it in the zone where its just right.

Hey guys great video as always. Could you do a test relating to spin and its effect on how much a golf balls defiates of line. For example similar face and path condition but one spins at 10000 and one spins at 5000 how much will this effect the fade or draw on the golf ball. This spin could be achieved throught clubs or ball I suppose

The only question I can think of is would you do any more to increase the launch angle? Are you leaving it at 10° to allow for the occasional drive that goes high?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Not much, more loft will also produce more spin. Best course of action for Sam is to work on his angle of attack, that will give him a higher launch angle without excess spin. His launch angle window is lower because his angle of attack is negative.

Love the videos. Speaking of right launch angle. I got fitted for a 9 degree driver with a oban black 05 which is x-stiff. I have the access to hit on a gc2 and my launch angle for my driver averages around 18 degrees. My swing speed is 116. Do you have any suggestions on changing equipment?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Less loft for sure, and pick a head with a more forward CG placement i.e. Rogue Sub Zero and M3 - take note of your angle of attack though, it must be very positive to launch the ball that high. Ideally you want to be in the 3-5º positive range on GC2.

Really interesting given my similar handicap and driver being key to bringing it down but as you indicated achieving greater consistency. The issue of changing from one type of leak to another drastically was very revealing as a way of finding the right balance. Interesting also that clearly the shaft still makes a big difference not just the head. Indeed it made me think about an earlier clip where you rested the same shaft with different heads to show the impact or difference the head makes- have you done it the other way around ie same head different shafts, probably the combination of the two together would be quite revealing and more scientific wrt what has more (or equal?) influence. Been to another fitter or two recently and they are not any near as thorough or understanding of the swing- there still seems to be a tendency to get you out of the door with a club. By the way what do you think about the value or importance of having shafts sst pured?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
This would be the closest in terms of that shaft test that we've done: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX-ofGCBdpVqfpI We're planning to do a video on puring shafts in the future.

Guys. I understand this video is a couple of years old; however, as with all of your videos, I struggle to resolve HOW to apply what I’ve seen. As most (if not all) of your videos have the technical bent (as that’s the the very skill set you bring), I am unable to easily replicate that knowledge as I don’t have access to that kind of fitting specialist. And while I am getting lessons, I still don’t have access that kind of specialty club fitting here in Australia. Which’s why I’m trying to understand: if I can’t apply what I’ve seen then, aside from knowledge, what’s the point? Thanks

@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Hard to say, the Ping stock shafts are quite good so wouldn't necessarily say that would be an issue. A fitting would be worthwhile to see what's happening with your swing delivery and whether an equipment change could help.

When looking for an optimal ball flight on driver, do you try to get spin or launch sorted first? Is there certain optimal ranges on each? I’m not too quick(105), very low spin with my driver(1500ish), but launch it 16-17*. Is that ok, or should that be optimized by increasing spin and lowering launch?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Those launch conditions will probably give you the absolute longest drives possible at your swing speed Derek, but probably not the most stable and accurate. Something closer to 13º/2300rpm would be a more balanced flight, although it would give you less distance. This video we did a few months ago has a lot of discussion on this topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2bWpWmVaaineLs

Was there a reason the Rogue draw wasn't tried? Also which in your opinion on average produces less spin, the M4 D Type or Rogue draw?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Tried about 5-6 different heads with Sam during the fit, any more than that and player fatigue starts to be an issue. With Ian's knowledge he goes to the heads in the studio that he think will perform for that player's particular swing. We haven't done any direct testing between M4 D and Rogue Draw, likely they'd be in a similar window for spin.

I’m a relative beginner (never had a lesson, but have hit on ranges about 30 times over ten years, a third of that has been recently though). I just found out my used Ping 12 degree G15 driver is a stiff shaft (too stiff for me) . Is this why I’m able to hit a 9 degree 1997 Cobra deep face & a 9.5 975D driver farther with good hits than the G15? I can hit 220 (counting rollout) drives with the steel shafted cobra and as far as that with the Titleist but struggle to reach 200 with the Ping. And aren’t beginners supposed to also benefit from more loft in drivers as well over lower lofts? My max ball speed (keep in mind I haven’t had a lesson) now is about 130-132. How far should I hit a good driver with that? And will I keep getting higher speeds if I keep hitting?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Modern drivers are designed to hit the ball high Jake, especially the G15. 12º sounds like it's too much loft for your swing which is why an old model with appropriate loft is going farther. A newer driver with the correct loft would likely perform a lot better than any club from 10+ years ago.

I love your videos and club fittings but especially on this one I'm confused, relating to shaft flex. I've seen many tests that have convinced me that shaft flex doesn't really matter ... that is, testing on a robot with different swing speeds and off-center strikes (and other variables), shows no measurable difference. Several pieces I've seen give the opinion that the most significant different is psychological; that is, how the flex "feels" to the golfer. Of course, if you have confidence in how a particular shaft feels, it makes sense that you will strike the ball better. But it seems you are making a case that the shaft flex has more that a psychological effect?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
The shaft can definitely affect the delivery of the golf club, but you're correct that it isn't technically the shaft itself creating launch and spin numbers. For Sam, the stiffer profile, x-flex shaft was easier for him to deliver the clubhead to the ball square and make solid contact and that in turn produced better launch conditions for him. Once we get the Gears Golf system installed in the studio, we're going to dive into this topic very deeply and hopefully illustrate what a shaft is doing during the swing.
