If you don't already have one, can you do a video on the impact of exercise and diet on insulin resistance? I've been great about the diet part but need to get on the exercise part. I've heard that exercise can impact insulin usage too because muscle uses insulin more efficiently.

@@thelnepoet1 diet is the most important, but if you have more muscle then your body has more room to store glucose. I think I've talked about exercise in one of my IR videos... It might have been one of the ones on PCOS but it was applicable to anyone with IR 🙂

One good tip I heard and that I've started using is to shop mostly in the perimeter areas of the supermarket, and avoid the middle aisles. The perimeter aisles usually contain vegetables, meats, fish, deli sections, dairy cases, and not the processed foods in the center aisles. (Watch out for the baked goods sections, though, which supermarkets have a habit of putting right at the doorway, along one wall of the perimeters of supermarkets to tempt you as soon as you walk in the door.) Another tip that has been helping me to eat better is to prepare one big pot of something, a stew or soup usually, the night before and eat that the rest of the day. This gives me more time to prepare the fresh vegetables, which I wouldn't ordinarily have time to do if preparing three separate meals per day. If I have some left over, I freeze that for another day. I got this idea from my grandmother, who had five children to raise by herself during the Depression after she was abandoned by her husband. It is cheaper to have a big pot of something to eat for the day. And I think that the idea of preparing all these separate meals in the same day is mostly marketing ploy by the supermarket industry to get people to spend more money. Some people say that eating the same thing all day doesn't give you enough nutrition. But today I steamed some julienne cut carrots, bell peppers, zucchini, and sugar sliced bok choy. Also used 1/2 cup of the dreaded jasmine rice (high carb) but combined with 1/2 cup of riced cauliflower. And, on top of that, some chicken tenders, slow cooked in a crock pot with minced celery and onion in ghee, and some garlic and herbs. Also some chopped, spinach. So I put it all on a plate, the spinach, topped with the steamed vegetables, and the slow cooked chicken tenders. I added the fat from cooking the chicken and the celery/onions from cooking the chicken tenders to the cooked rice and riced cauliflower mixture. Topped this all with the slow cooked chicken and some chipotle flavored ranch salad dressing. So how can I go wrong eating that three times in one day because I'll come up with something entirely different for tomorrow. Soups and Stews are especially good for this formula of cooking for the day. My new favorite recipe: Italian Wedding Soup. I can certainly survive all day on that.

Much relief after going through this stuff kzbin.infoUgkx-ip-9JdKgYMhubLnEjt3OXJkFyS4D2Jd Stress no doubt affects my blood sugar levels. Taking a walk usually helps bring them down. Eating sweets is not my favorite, but if i take a large portion of them, my blood sugar level rises high. I think it's the high concentration of the glucose flowing into the bloodstream all at once. This is a lesson worth taking note of. This is a great material to learn from.

Anytime you eat ... insulin is spiked.. even low-carb foods.. and low sugar and non-sugar foods. That's why it's important to limit your eating window. I eat only one time a day every 24 hours and low carb to control my insulin. Also, read the ingredients to what you buy... you’ll be surprised how much stuff has high fructose corn syrup. Edit: even artificial @4:35 sweetness spike insulin and sometimes more so than natural sugar and they are known to disrupt the good bacteria in mice guts. Stay away from all artificial sweeteners if possible... If not just limit their use. Everything spikes insulin. Except for water and some teas with no sugar. Fast more.

Thank you. Found this very helpful video. Vegetarian who became diabetic from consuming too many fruits, nuts, grains, beans. Now eat protein in meat in 2 to 4 ounce portions to stay alive. Vegetarian for 45 years with disastrous results. Didn't understand the sugar dangers in juice and fruit and starch and grains. Doctors never took the time to educate. Many Doctors themselves struggle with weight and diet issues. Also was relatively thin most of my life. Problems manifested after fifty years of age. Sugar and starch was more dangerous than animal products. Who knew? I like to think I have always been aware of healthy food. Stay away from eating away from home in social situations, throw away classic cookbooks and recipes. Do not give food gifts. Find other gifts for children and husband other than candy. Do not let family members make you feel guilty when you don't eat their food. ie mother, mother in law, father in law, relatives at the holidays. Do not use food to socialize or expressively show love to other family members. Society expects this. Resist using food or cooking to show love. Eat to live dont live to eat. Use your thought to make you healthier.

Hi! Just wanted to say this info is great! I was diagnosed with T2Diabetes about 6 months ago and I have been obsessing over this information for 6 months and in this video I still learned something new! Also, it is so sad that dietitians these days tell diabetics to, for one, not eat a low carb diet and, for 2, combine your protein with your carb to give, already insulin resistant people, the max insulin spike when they eat their protein!

Hi Kait, well you have definitely inspired me to make some changes. You’ve highlighted some areas where I was completely lost or in the dark with. I’ve been a type 2 Diabetic for around 4 years and probably still in denial. I try to avoid carbs but still have they things I want, nail you aperitif drinks and snacks at the end of the day. I know, probably they worst. I think if I avoid bread, pasta and potatoes through the day its a good excuse to have the apero’s. The Metformin video was the one I started with and since then have watched 4 of your vids in a row. Metformin is my nightmare as I take 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening, I hate taking them as I believe I shouldn’t need to take any medication. In denial.... I’m going to make changes today and get off the Metformin. Thanks for your vids they really do inspire. Love and good health from Andrew in Stirling Scotland. Any links or advice would be appreciated. It’s time!!

If I were you I would do a lot of research on intermittent fasting. My brother in law was diabetic and 400 pounds. He started out with a program called whole 30 and lost at ton of weight. He started doing the 30 day program over and over. Then he wanted to find a less strict lifestyle. Something where he was eating healthy, but a bit easier. Then he discovered intermittent fasting. He now eats only after about 4 in the evening, but he is down to 160 pounds over the coarse of a couple years and is no longer diabetic.

Hi Kait, the past 2 months I changed my eating habits due to a broken arm and pain and not able to cook a lot. I kept it simple with 2 servings of fish or seafood (not fried) one serving of meat or chicken, generally one egg per day and one small slice of good quality bread but not every day. Also half avocado , a palmful of blueberries and raspberries. Veg is a small serving of salad, or greens that are in season. Small amount of olive oil. One tea and one coffe per day and I eat only breakfast and lunch. After that only water if thirsty. It seems to suit me and I lost that desire for lots of bad carbs. I lost 8 kilos in 9 weeks and never felt hungry.. I didn’t follow any advice but just listened to what my body was saying to me. I gave away all canned goods, pasta and crisps and juices. It’s going well but I am thinking about when the winter comes and there is a desire for comfort foods and then what to do. I live in Greece . I also used to eat more fruit. Your video has been very helpful.

I have to admit I do not miss beans, potatoes, or other starchy veg. Growing up in an Italian family in a New York Italian neighborhood, we could get the best Italian bread from the local bakers and fresh pasta too. Bread and pasta were very difficult to give up, at first. However, I do find that, properly prepared, the konjac noodles are a good pasta substitute. I discovered a local bakery who specializes in keto-friendly products. They make a bread with only 1 g net carb from flax and chia seeds. I do buy it on occasion, but it is a bit prohibitive because it's $10 a loaf. That bread and the konjac noodles make me miss the bread and pasta much less. Another great video, thank you Kait.

@Falhawk73 yeah normal people the one’s without insulin resistant issues right? So why push beans on everyone? legumes and grains even some vegetables and fruits are the main offenders here so just because ur good with ur insulin and u can eat beans or because ur Chinese or South American then u going to convince some from Britain or any where else with insulin resistant issues to eat them as well? I would recommend you to eat them since ur ok with them! In fact l would recommend you to eat a cake and high sugar foods aswel since ur body can handle them but leave those with insulin issues to avoid certain foods to heal! We don’t even need science or doctors to tell you that! Asia and all these countries have higher levels of people with insulin issues because of too much carbs and legumes! Go to Thailand and India see pair of fat men and women there with blood sugar issues

The most important thing isexercise which is rarely discussed in videos like this - diet helps the best for people who are in a severe state of insulin resistance, but exercise is the most effective combined with diet. Exercise willl allow one to eat carbs in moderation without withdrawal. Also - for people like myself who do weight train you need carbs for energy and to build muscle mass. Listening to videos like this will have people thinking they can't eat anything. Make exercise and weight training a lifestyle - along with maintain a healthy bodyfat %. This will do more overall health than anything combined with a healthy diet. A big fan of the right foods but I am bigger fan of making the body stronger, building muscle and making exercise a lifestyle. This will reverse not only insulin resistance, but a lot of other issues as well. Also fasting is very powerful as well and I recommend this a few times a month. I usually try to make my last meal around 7pm and I don't eat again until 1030-11am the next day. Depends on my training.

Lawd!! This is just so overwhelming!! Thank you for helping to break it down into bite size pieces. But info varies from site to site. I heard that the fiber in the apple helps to cancel out the sugar, making it a good option for a snack or alongside your breakfast plate. And what about keto bread? Are there any breads that can be eaten 2 or 3 times a week? I always thought that beans were high in fiber. I thought beans were good for us. I worry all the time now about what to eat and what not to eat. The thought process alone has added to my daily stress. Right now I'm making smoothies for breakfast with avocado, Greek yogurt, strawberries, stevia and spinach or kale. It's filling and I "think" it's healthy. I plan to watch more of your previous videos in hopes of coming up with a better meal plan. Oh how I regret becoming a diabetic. I really do.
