1:57:21-DM note for Mark: you can upcast any spell using a higher level, but some spells don't have an enhanced effect at higher level, like Dimension Door. Cam should have been able to cast his Dimension Door in that situation. PHB pg 201: "When a character casts a spell, he or she expends a spell slot of that spell's level or higher, effectively 'filling' a slot with the spell. You can think of a spell slot as a groove of a certain size - small for a 1st-level slot, larger for a spell of higher level. A 1st-level spell fits into a slot of any size, but a 9th-level spell fits only in a 9th-level slot...Some spells, such as Magic Missile and Cure Wounds, have more powerful effects when cast at a higher level, as detailed in the spell's description."

He most likely had the skills already. He just hadn't had the experience of actual combat before and has had to adapt to actually being in danger.

Yeah, normally I don´t care too much about "misplays", but this one is just unfair. Also, I play Warlock a lot, and they only have one type/level of spell slots. Edit: And then Mark says: "Cam realizes he did not have enough energy." When he was about to spend MORE energy than necessary.

Gavin Graham technically they are walking through the first wood. hiking through dense forest, avoiding dangerous creatures and all that. but yeah, an hour for one mile is insane unless you're lost.

Going through wilderness takes significantly longer time than walking on a sidewalk. The terrain is uneven, there's stuff constantly in the way, you need to clear bushes/etc out of your way, you need to keep an eye out for traps/monsters/pickles.

Mark, I feel that you miss the point of a critical hit. It means that the attack hits a vital area. The thunder and sharpshooter damage has hit a vital as much as the actual sword or arrow, given that it's all one attack.

14:45 ish, just noticed something very key. Mark told Kim that the flash of light was similar to that of the Fey-Orcs and the Autumn Spire... Wasn't she dead at the time, and thus had no way of knowing about it? I'm about ninety five percent sure of that, because if my memory serves, she was subbing in as an Elven knight who lost an arm (and maybe an eye, too) for the duration. Jiutou was revived afterwards by the elder Fey on the stone, when they each gave something up to help ensure her safe return. The last time we saw a certain rope carried by our dearly missed warlock. Patron rest his coat tails.

Mark has the crit rules wrong, or is changed them for some reason. When you crit you double all damage die, not just the weapon damage. The way he does things severely cripples classes like Paladins, that are designed to wait for crits to blow their big spell slots on smites, so they can double all the damage die from that hit. It also hurts assassination rogues, who get instant crits when acting in surprise rounds or before anyone else. By his ruling they would not get to double their sneak attack damage.

Yes. That's why it's called a spell "slot". Any spell of that size or smaller will fit inside the slot. ('Probably not actually why they used the word slot, but it's a useful analogy.)

Yah. Barbarians with dual magical weapons too are quite OP + unsure if Mark remembered half orcs "racial" they roll extra die when they get crit. so yeah, half orc barbarian/fighter dual class can be very lethal ( extra crit range,extra crit dmg from barbarian and extra crit dmg from the race ) many bonuses.

hrmh, true that. Did misread that quite badly... and yeah. Ranged attacks can be quite powerful at 5 e, especially with sharpshooter feat. that +10 dmg is quite much more than you can get with any ranged weapon ( nonmagical ) usually longbow and heavy crossbows are most damage dealing ones with they 1d8 ( which still is less that +10 ) so if you get good dex and profiency bonus. you will rack up quite much dmg easily. Think wizards at coast tried balance high dmg on disadvantage on the melee and 2 hand requirement, as well crossbows Loading property ( only 1 shot per turn, even if you have multi attack )

yup, thats why I actually like Mark's homebrew to just douple the dmg dice instead rolling dmg twice as you would normally do. "normal" crit would double any die, so example hunter's mark and Reynard's crossbow ligthing die would douple too. ( meaning 2d6 ligthing dmg instead of 1d6 etc )

I know I'm a year late to the party, but they also make feign death way too OP (for the second time in the camping I might add) by misreading "Resistant to all damage except psychic" to "IMMUNE" which are two super different things!! Cam should still be ripped to bits by the wolves, just take 50% dmg (but incapacitated so all hits would be instant crits >_>)

Another fun episode, yet I do have a small annoyance... Spoilers 2:03:00 resistance to damage is not the same as immune to damage. Cam should have taken half damage from that wolf's attacks. And since he's incapacitated, all of that wolf's attacks get advantage too. So that wolf should have shredded cam to pieces really if elora hadn't intervened...

Thats from the Sharpshooter feat. You can choose to take a -5 penalty to an attack roll (Reynard still had +7 after that) to get +10 to the damage if it hits.

Tom's ingenuity in combat is topnotch. He is the best at thinking outside the box to skillfully use every tool and skill at his disposal to inflict damage, trick opponents, and defend his friends & himself. Even when a move does not necessarily yield the best result, he is able to think on his feet to then quickly come up with a backup or recovery plan. It is rare he is caught flat-footed. And may I also add that he is the quickest study of learning how to play DnD of almost anyone in my 35 years' experience with the game.

Usually, this kind of spells chooses the nearest available location. (Which I believe would be the case with Banish.) Some spells, mostly teleports of some kind, will deal damage to you, if you were to "merge" with something and some might just fail outright.

It's rough when the DM gets a ruling as wrong as Mark does. While the players are supposed to also know the rules, everyone relies on the DM for the ruling. When the DM says something is wrong, the party is going to believe it, even if it's super wrong. Great session but maybe someone should be double checking his calls.
