In the book he set up his chocolate factory and hired human workers but chased them out because the other chocolate makers were using the workers as spies to steal his recipes. He goes into depression over it and closes the factory to travel the world where he finds the oompa loompas who are willing to work for cocoa beans and live in the factory where they will be safe from jungle predators that like to eat them. And that's about all the backstory we get on Wonka's backstory.

Honestly both his backstory and the story as a whole I wild in the book. Charlie and the chocolate factory captured it. I’m still waiting for someone to adapt the real insanity that is Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. If you thought fantastical factory where children are given permanent injuries for poor behaviour was wild, you ain’t seen nothing yet, flying elevators, aliens and the ability to reverse aging prior to birth. @@williampotter3369 wisdom is not life experience. if that was the case every old person would be wise and that's extremely far from the truth. wisdom is basically a combination of knowledge critical thinking skills experiences and well thought out perspectives from all of those. has hardly anything to do with life experience. life experiences sure. but life experience isn't the same. life experience is just what you experienced over a long life which usually isn't much. life experiences is usually a lot from different sources. basically one is some the other is a lot. more you have the more wise you can be. can be because you need the other stuff I mentioned. experiencing doesn't mean much when you don't learn anything from them then think about stuff past them to further your knowledge. confusing but hey being wise is a complex thing to explain XD. iroh is wise and has experienced a lot but it is also due to him being so humble even someone robbing him he will lecture then give advice to. meanwhile someone like sozin was not wise. both old but one was wise while the other wasnt.

I've watched all three Willy Wonka movies and the best way to describe each is with chocolate. Willy Wonka being milk chocolate as it portrays Willy Wonka as a whimsical but kind of a madman, Charlie and the chocolate factory being dark chocolate as it more closely adapts the book and leans more into Willy Wonka being a bit of a madman, and Wonka being white chocolate because it goes for a more "sweet" approach for Willy Wonka.
