Depends, went to the Silverstone event, it's a PITA when these events seen to get moved more south or London based. Takes longer, costs more. The NEC is one the best connected events spaces in the Midlands and would even discourage the need to drive!
@countertony

@@Gr33nMamba Generally agree, but it's not got any useful outdoor space. Farnborough looked good, but I get what you mean about being in the south. If Donington Park had a railway station nearby it would be ideal.

I have always rated people who can think on their feet and Robert Llewellyn was one of them by inspiring individuals to think on their feet and go the extra mile. It is a direction you guys are headed and well done on encouraging so much new blood to take the next generation of electrical engineers into an exciting world, where hopefully, quality wins over quantity. Great episode :)

Late to the party, but @26:29 - car industry had been doing this for ages, releasing new products every effin year... nothing to see here... if the mechanism is similar, the nicer it is, the more of them they sell, the more is going to survive past obsolecence, and the more there will be to support later, making it a 'good deal' for independent workshops too, way past the intended 'lifespan'. Also, I'm sorry, but there's gonna be a rant! Because I did not expect >an electrician< to be so misinformed.... Battery, motors never gonna last ?! I suggest you'll educate yourself on that front, sir. The batteries and motors could (when treated appropriately) survive past the livespan of the chassis they'd be put in. It's already happening - industry is touting horns on million-mile motors and 100 years batteries. But also, normal people are repurposing electric motors and batteries after the original body shells'expired'. And yes, i am aware of multi-thousand-miles cars, where batteries and motors were swapped over multiple times too, but... conversely, anyone have a statistics, of how many not-so-old, decently/recently engineered, so /possibly/ able to go on safely for longer, ice cars, go to scrap after just blowing a head gasket, because the service to replace it is so expensive, for whatever reason ? (cost/complication/manhours, mostly - but also the availability of other cheap used cars) Thing is, only the most determined/attached owners would insist on servicing a gasket 'past drivetrain warranty' on a 7-8-9 yo, standard mass produced ice car, if another one just like that one, can be had for similar sum to what the service would cost... From that perspective, electric motor swapover is mechanically much less complicated, but part cost plays much more role... Which can be alleviated if there is more of them been sold in the first place, and the 'nice/not-eyesore design' has a role in that.

I think judging by all the things a lot of people are saying and noticing the changes that seem to be heading in the direction of electric vehicles, they simply are not worth it. What with the parking fines for charging, the high ticket price, the laws being deliberately set up to scupper the use of electric vehicles and so on. Just look at electric bikes, they have taken away the twist and go facility, the one thing that a lot of people with leg problems would look for on a bike. Then there is the highly restricted power available, and then there are all the restrictions surrounding them. I'm genuinely thinking of going back to my gasoline motorcycle and car for commuting. and let's not get into the Escooter issue, hell that should have been sorted out a long time ago but still we wait. So where's the incentive to switch from gasoline to electric, other than they are nicer to use. I can do without nice to use if it means I won't get a ticket for riding an illegal bike just because it has a twist and go handle bar, how stupid is that. And we have not even gotten into the eskate boards or EUCs all banned. So unless you want to spend 40 grand on a electric car and suck up all the fines for parking while charging like you got a choice, then gasoline seems to be the safest option, pollution will just have to wait.

Let’s get a full charging infrastructure in place before we sell it to the general public. At the moment it’s the business world who are feeling the sales of Tesla and other EV manufacturers. The average joe blogs will not be purchasing an EV for sometime. Let’s hope the extortionate prices will drop on EV cars.

I really question that EVs will be thrown away/written off within a few years… I think most will outlast the average ICE car… with maybe the exception of some very early models with very limited range.

The problem with Monta (and Fuuse) is that they'll charge site operators a £4-£8 monthly fee per chargepoint to provide the billing service, and they'll also charge a 10% transaction fee to every user. This is crazy, as they should easily be able to make a tidy return from the transaction fee alone. They'll argue they provide analytics etc. (best customer, most frequent user etc.) but that's largely irrelevant to residential/workplace installs.

Hi Jordan, Cracking video as always but as always some comments create a question for me, many times manufacturers tell us a unit is 11Kw on three phase but 7.4 Kw on single phase, yet I have a 10.8 Kw shower on single phase which is near as you could get to 11Kw, so why can't we have say a 10 Kw plus charger on single phase ?. Thanks if you could answer this you would clear up some real confusion, Regards Paul.

Was lovely to meet a couple of the guys on Saturday, and finally put a face to cameraman Max! Hi looking at having a consumer unit fitted and a Ev charge point at the same time .when watching liked the idea of a zappi 2 or Indra smart or hyper volt . Car isn’t here yet so which would you recommend future proof ideally, or was there something worth waiting for at the show , ie Ev to grid charging ? Thanks for any advice would be great .

I have a Zaptec charger, and very happy with it. Looks great … App is good. Would be great to see you guys install/review one, because I think it looks better than the Andersen, and is a lot smaller. Being untethered is great, because no cables for the majority of time I’m not actually using it, and price was great. Oh, and excellent tech support when I had initial user error on the App 👍🏻

I was at the show on Friday, I did come round to your stand (which was in the wrong place on the plan) but you were being interviewed, so I went round the rest of the show hall, but when I came back, you must have been on a bit of a wonder, as there was nobody there that I recognised. I still had a great time, got to drive and ride some great vehicles, and had some interesting conversations with the people on some of the different stands. The guys who are making equipment for roadside power delivery were interesting to speak to. I suspect that will be a very important part of the future infrastructure, especially for people who don't have off-road parking. I will look out for you all again next year, and hopefully have a chat.

A great video chaps! Great to see you part of the show. Nice to see the new tech out there. The only downside was the OneWheel. Nice product in past, but they've been copping a lot of flack in USA due to firmware and hardware locks that go against the right to repair their products by third parties.

Personally, i'm not a huge fan of Elon, but think Tesla and EV's, in general, are pretty interesting!! Sounds like a great convention! Cory's skateboard carrier may kick off along with interviewing. Or maybe he would be the most annoying Paparazzi generalist to exist by following people on EV skateboards 🤣

I object to Cody’s throw away remark about the VW ID Buzz! He said he couldn’t see the point of having such a beautiful vehicle when it would be scrapped in 6 years. For a start there is an eight year warranty on ID batteries and although it will lose capacity over time it will still be usable for many more years and the Buzz itself will live as long as the original split windscreen VW bus from the sixties, better rust prevention in car production these days! This is pandering to the misinformation put out by the fossil fuel industry trying to slow down the transition to EVs and as EV charging installers you should not put out negative messages such as this. Yes you did make a mistake buying that converted VW electric van now buy the purpose built from the ground up VW Buzz van variant or even the new Ford Transit EV both having a decent range in the 200 mile area! This would support the transition to EVs and for a company installing EV chargers be a good image to present!
@artisanelectrics
@artisanelectrics 2 жыл бұрын
Fair points, I just would want to make sure we have the right to repair, as it’s super easy to work on a split screen bus, whereas I feel manufacturers will purposefully make it harder to repair your own kit to force upgrades and trade ins, ending up being worse for the environment. But I guess we can hope for the best and I’ll stand corrected! 😅👍🏼
