Boxer Micky Ward gives his opinion on Mark Wahlberg and the movie. He also talks about how it felt to see his brother's problems and his family's fighting play out on the big screen.

I was in Lowell a few months back and one mention of his name is all it takes. He's local and everyone knows and respects him.

What do you mean by one mention of his name is all it takes? Do they try to beat you up?

still can't understand why they did not include Ward's trilogy with Arturo Gatti in the film, is that crazy or what??!! I mean that is what Micky Ward is most known for, and it would have been cool to see that in the movie.

+E&J brandy I'll drink to that! The Augustus-Ward fight was also "tax on toughness" like the Gatti-Ward trilogy, These 4 fights rank among the all time best fights in my opinion.

Stroke of genius not to put the trilogy with Gatti (RIP) in the movie. I think the emotion of the family struggle and drugs would have lost its effect. Us boxing fans know the trilogy anyways and movie fight scenes suck to the trained eye.

How friggin' hard is it for people to see that the movie was as much about Dickie as it was about Micky, it was about how they pulled through some hard times to beat the odds. If that ain't a NE story man, holy shit. If you want to see a movie about the trilogy check out HBO's legendary nights, it's done better than Hollywood could ever hope to achieve. Hollywood doesn't even have the credibility to make a movie as real or gutsy as the Gatti/Ward fights anyway, so I for one am thankful for the HBO doc and if you haven't seen it yet .... it's a must-watch!!

I love when he says "CHUMSford". That accent brings back fond (and some not so fond) memories of my early childhood growing up in Lowell. For those who are not familiar with the area, his gym he is speaking about is in CHELMSford. 😆

Gotti trilogy would have made the movie 3 hours long and we all know the American attention span is like a gold fish (3seconds). Anyways! Glad some of Micky’s story was told. Anyone from all the gate cities of Massachusetts has to be tough to make it out here. The movie should have featured more Drop Kick Murphy’s Warrior Code as well. Overall awesome share!
