@@lakampos6241 It's really up to the directors they choose. Some have vision and some don't. The last great Batman movie was made by Nolan, a decade ago. The problem with the DCEU is some fans want high quality and others just want glorified violence and monsters fighting. They can't please everyone, and so far, they seem to be trying to please the wrong group. James Gunn had a lot of freedom on TSS, and he's been able to spin off Peacemaker, which is a hit for HBO Max, and he's working on another streaming series so far, maybe another movie.

This seems like the Batman I’ve needed not just wanted but needed. Can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a film. Everything from the stunning gritty visuals to the casting looks perfect. It just seems so grounded and distinctive. Add what seems to be like a true character study for not just Batman but Bruce himself, I can’t control my hype.

Yes. Finally, something that looks like a movie, not just a 'comic book movie.' Don't get me wrong, I freaking love comics, but comics and comic book movies are two completely different genres. Comics are a mix of writing and art. Every panel is intentional to tell a story and make you feel a certain emotion. Comic book movies these days seem to be made by a committee. "How do we make the most amount of money?" And yes, I enjoy a good number of them. The latest spiderman movie made me so happy that I thought I'd need to seek medical attention, but I miss the days of a writer working with a director and a team of creatives to make one vision come to life on-screen. I miss things being somewhat grounded in reality where costumes and props and sets are real things.

It honestly is, Matt Reeves truly seems to know the character more than any director that came before and you can tell how in love he is by listening to his interviews. Everything I ever wanted in a Batman film is here. Then we got the amazing cast, the cinematography, how accurate it is for a Year 2 Batman despite being a little more grounded. It's a shame that some people are trying to hate on the film because they either don't like Pattinson merely due to Twilight, or because Ben is not Batman even though it was Ben's decision to leave, or because is not Rated R even though they're pushing the PG-13 rating to its limits. I've been obsessed with this film and it's almost here. I can't wait for the eventual spinoffs and the sequels.

I'd love an R-rated Batman movie. Imagine the ability to not pull punches. Rocksteady had a story moment in Arkham Knight that pushed the game to an M-rating. Instead of going back to attempt to tone down the violence, they went back and didn't pull any punches with the story, gameplay, or visuals. Despite the issues with Arkham Knight, the game is still one of my top 10 games of all time because it isn't afraid to get dark and gritty. I have a feeling The Batman will be similar in a sense.

@@q-tip4723 I adore Arkham Knight and still play it to this day. I low-key wanted The Batman to be Rated R but yeah it's surprising how far they are able stretch it out. Even Pattinson in the Empire Magazine interview was confused on the rating. I think he really thought it was going to be Rated R. Since there will be HBO spin offs that won't have Batman on the title (the untitled GCPD show, the Penguin show and possible Catwoman show), I think that they will move the real mature stuff there.

Its overwhelming how many check marks this film seems to be hitting for me personally, everything i love and want in a bottle and so far my favorite thing is how they were able to mesh Kurt Cobain's music from the trailer with the TBAS score, gave me Goosebumps! Also they don't even need CG to get Batman's white eyes. Whole white contacts with an added Frank Miller pop in the shadows. Practical & frightening giving Batman a more enigmatic presence while it won't compromise Rob's acting ability with it

Batman is at his best when he’s written and designed hyper-stylised, he is, in my opinion, the most comicbooky hero. He’s meant to have villains wondering if he’s real let alone even human! We don’t need him to be the glorified spy movies super hero movies have become. We haven't really got a batman movie where they take the exaggerated aspects of the comic books that make him so special, its stayed pretty close to james bond in a batsuit. Which is a shame because it misses the best parts of batman. I'd love to see a batman where the audience suspend their disbelief an watch as this super natural creature leaping through the night pulling criminals into the shadows with superhuman speed, and strength. A creature seemingly disappearing into darkness only to reappear behind a terrified criminal, have it shot like a horror movie. Then show us the confused scared human side of bruce with the mask off, as if its two different men. The issue i had with the dark night was that batman was too human, he was the same with the suit on and off both physically and emotionally, i want us to know they are the same person but unable to believe that the mild mannered bruce wayne that gotham sees is the batman. have him battle with the effects of being batman not be on his life, we have spiderman for that theme, but on his body and mind, have him struggle with who's body it is, is bruce pretending to be batman, or is batman pretending to be bruce. Lastly make sure it is campy and stylised but play it straight, i mean exaggerated and unbelievable caricatures of villains that feel unpredictable and make the audience uneasy. Do all this to distance the character as far as possible from how goofy a traumatised rich boy in a bat suit is.

He's the world's greatest detective. My biggest issue with the live action movies is that they lean super heavily away from this fact. He's often portrayed as a rich idiot stumbling into clues these days, instead of the tactical mastermind he is supposed to be.

The thing that impacted me the most about The Batman trailer is the setting. Yes, It's Gotham, however, it feels massive. I remember Alex saying something in his Titans review (the first one), and it is that each location needs to be graded differently so the audience understands that there is a time interval or a change in place. The trailer and movie looks to be doing this wonderfully, from the blue darkness of the streets we see at the beginning, the greys of the train station, to the blinking reds of what seems to be a prison and the golden rays of the dawn making all from the buildings to the characters into silhouettes; this makes the city look like it has no end to it.

Gotham City's portrayal in "Joker" was goddamn amazing: I could watch the entire movie muted just to take it all in. Heck, to me it was the main character: The triumphant city of evil beating down and breaking its most humane inhabitant, turning him into a burnt out hollow shell of a man, breathing its own evil spirit into the remaining mask, reshaping this persona in Gotham City's own corrupt image, to be re-born as its own anti-christ, corruption coming into human flesh - this city's greatest corruptor of minds.

I've been following the development of this movie all the way back when it was still only in the concept stage and the first interview with Matt Reeves I saw of him talking about Batman, he mentioned his no killing rule and I instantly smiled. This isn't a pretentious director pretending to understand, you can see and feel the passion in all of his tweets and when he talks about Batman and his mythos you can see the dense knowledge he has. Don't even get me started on Rob, he's such an exceptional actor and he's going to easily be the best live action Batman to date. This movie is going to be a once in a lifetime experience, completely monumental

Plus Colin Farrell is going to be the best Penguin, he's unrecognisable in look and movement. Zoe Kravitz gonna be the best Selina, excited to see her relationship with Bruce grow through the movies. Jeffrey Wright as Jimbo will be interesting to see and Andy Serkis I feel is going to be a mix between Earth 0 and Earth 1 Alfred where he's also a war vet that trains Bruce. Nobody feels like they don't fit their character

The Batman/Catwoman romance is one aspect of this movie I'm most looking forward to, and not just because Matt Reeves is giving us horny superhero flicks again. Selina Kyle is by all means a criminal. By Bruce/Batman's standards, she should just be another one of the nameless goons he takes down with ease. But he can't, because he actually sees something in her that he emotionally connects to. Her motives aren't black and white, just like his aren't either. Framing their relationship around Bruce's arc of learning to be a more empathetic person who doesn't purely exist to seek out revenge is so brilliant, and adds a layer to the Bat/Cat romance that hasn't really been explored in the live action films prior to this. Great video as always Alex! Keep up the great work, you inspire me so much!

I soooo love the Bat / Cat costumes next to each other! Can we take a minute to have another look at them, how they complement each other? Obviously in common: Similar colour palettes, both going with the night creature thing in a rather subdued and stylised manner, practical but elegant, slim compared to earlier movies. Subtle differences: His more imposing and threatening in silhouette, hers lighter and more flexible - probably mirrors their respective personality portrayal. What I like most is you can see their class difference in the materials and fabrication, different backgrounds. This is what cinema wardrobe should be: Integral part of the characterisation and story. Not just flashy shiny bling.

@@nf1101 Not a big fan of the MehCU here, the visual style grew to bore me pretty soon, liked Cap 1, Avengers 1, plus the Guardians and Spidey flicks best there. I am more into standalone films than into the serialised form, which probably influenced my bias heavily as well. If you are into DC's more unique world visuals (as your choice of favourites suggests), then Birds of Prey offers an interesting view of Gotham's underworld in its less fancy quarters. Can truly recommend that one!

What I love about the look of this movie so far, is that Bruce Wayne/Batman looks to be the MAIN focus of the film. Not the villain, the hero, the protagonist. It's one of the reasons I loved Spider-Man compared to other heroes, because of the way it focuses on him. A character study in a sense. So to see The Batman do this with Bruce Wayne/Batman, makes me interested what exactly they will do with his inner character study.
