Hey Matt, Just want to let you know this is the most useful video I’ve viewed so far in terms of exporting HDR. Thanks much!

@@planegeek5143 thank you so much! I’m glad to help and this means a lot.

It has begun. I was blown away by my iPhone 12 video footage a couple of years back. Now it's starting to become almost mainstream. Even Lightroom has it.

I wasn’t a fan at first. But after seeing it on a proper display it can be quite amazing.

Great video! I haven’t shot in HLG yet, I shoot in D Log M but may play around with it as it looks great. Also have a HDR monitor so that would be a bonus. I actually didn’t even think about needing a HDR monitor for it 🤣 but totally makes sense haha Awesome video, very well explained and easy to follow 👌

@@JensWorld__ first off, thank you for stopping by! I’ve been having fun with the HLG profile but after seeing how good your videos look I’m thinking of doing more DLog-M. I typically use normal for my talking head clips. Cheers!

@@mattspadesoundandvision pleasure ☺️ ah thank you. Yeah I do like dlog m , just generally love the way it turns out after grading. :) normal colour profile is nice easy and convenient when you need it. I just really enjoy grading 🙂

@@JensWorld__I do love to grade and you’ve inspired me to use Dlog-M on this Pocket 3. I generally shoot on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera but I use the Osmo when I’m solo traveling to shoot. Would love to see a video on your CG process! 😉
@JensWorld__2 ай бұрын
@@asmrlovecraftpoe3692 the osmo is so good to travel with! Or even just a daily driver to be fair. I use my Sony A7IV and my osmo . Thanks for the kind words, I will definitely do a CG video at some point :)

So, does the metadata tell non-hdr monitors how to display the hdr footage? I watched some other content and it looked blown out on a non-hdr monitor, whereas yours looks normal, but when I re-watched parts of this on my phone, which is HDR, it looks spectacular.
@mattspadesoundandvision2 ай бұрын
That's going to be the key; using the free remote app to monitor it on your phone or tablet, providing they are HDR compatible.) On my SDR monitor it looked pretty washed out. To answer your question, the metadata doesn’t automatically tell non-HDR monitors how to display HDR footage. The metadata mainly helps HDR-compatible devices and platforms display the content correctly.

@@mattspadesoundandvision Thank you! I'm going to have to give this a try. I actually purchased a gaming monitor and it is HDR capable. It's probably not the best monitor to color grade on, but I may give it a shot. I think it's only 300 nits though for HDR.

There's little to no reason to enable HDR Vivid if you grade the video.
@mattspadesoundandvision25 күн бұрын
HLG comes out flat like LOG but is an HDR-compatible source, unlike our phones which upload directly as HDR.
@victorx464825 күн бұрын
@mattspadesoundandvision of your HLG comes out desaturated and in low contrast like a LOG, so there's something missing in your workflow or settings. And HDR Vivid is not needed when you export HLG. The HLG videos have no HDR private flag in the bitstream and are displayed as is with 10-bit color. This is the beauty of the HLG - they look OK in the SDR, without any transformation, and they look about the same as the HDR PQ 1000 nits again with no need for additional processing.
