Agreed. Under "successive" authoritarian regime, Russia has been on the wrong side of humanity since the late 19th century. The days of Peter the Great are long gone. The Russian ruling oligarchy today is obsessed with lust for power and delusion of greatness. Those oligarchs siphon wealth off Russia to fulfil their own pockets at the expense of ordinary Russian people. Russian people being run by those authoritarian cronies in the Kremlin. A few examples of recent Russian atrocities include: Shooting down of MH17 over eastern Ukraine (by Russian backed surrogates); state-sponsored doping at the Sochi Olympics; annexation of eastern Ukraine; annexation of Crimea; the war in Chechnya; killing and the poisoning of opponents; support the brutal Assad regime etc. The Russian cyber squad has been spreading disinformation and launching cyberattacks to undermine western democracies. To create an alternative reality and to spread confusion is the main aim of the Russian state today. We are all now witnessing the actions of an EVIL REGIME.

The British did for a little while consider going CATOBAR and order F-35Cs. One of the reasons for switching back to the current configuration was they would have to use the same catapult type as the Ford. And we all know how much difficulty we’re having with that. And before someone mentions Steam catapults, the QE does not have steam engines so no steam for catapults.

Well well well @ 0:42 we see the pilot trigger the lift fan BEFORE dead stop to save time. I have been wanting/waiting/assuming that pilots would start to do this to improve (reduce) takeoff times. Previous: Dead stop: While they drink their coffee they open up lift fan system. Then they turn on - engage lift fan (a VERY distinct sound comes from that system when engaged). Then they throttle up. Then they take off. Now, we see multiple operations occurring at the same time. Pilots are clearly getting better and more familiar with the F35. So, pilot had not even come to a stop, he had the lift fan doors open WHILE the taxi process and even triggered the clutch (engagement) of the lift fan to save time. so, this was GREAT to see, and I of course expected this to occur. So while they taxi - lift system can be setup. It takes a catapult system 120 seconds (two minutes) to launch a jet. Now that they are "starting" to press the buttons and get things all up and running WHILE they taxi to runway, then all that jazz and time is thus eliminated! Very very nice to see. That suggests a launch time down in the 15 seconds range. about 8 times the rate of a catapult. Nice!!! Example of a catapult launch: 120 seconds - one jet launched kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYiyoXd_qdxkn6s 4 Harriers in 40 seconds: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJOai5-Qd6mje7M And what else did EVERYONE note about the takeoff? Why of course the LENGTH of the runway. Remember, the payload and fuel is what determines the length of the run up to the ramp. Previous? Geesh - they were almost starting their runs at the ramp!!!! (low fuel, no weapons = very short run to ramp). Now? Well with a real fuel load, and real weapons - the length the run is now MUCH longer then in previous videos. You note for security purposes - not one clip shows the full run, and that of course is to hide the payloads and fuel they are running. However, to be fair, you can much determine where on the decks they are starting these runs. (answer: a LOT longer then before!!!).

@@noodles9371 The interoperations was a good idea. To be fair, they had expected to get more F35's from Lockheed (they can't keep up with orders right now). So, this deployment and sharing of training is no doubt a great opportunity for the USA pilots and vice versa. I mean do you think there was a shortage of USA pilots when asked would they join the HMS Q for a deployment? I can bet they jumped at this chance. That ship is a worlds largest STOVL ship, and it's design and layout is 2nd to none.. Also, without a full air wing, then pilots get much nicer living arrangements. If I was a pilot and had this chance? Hell ya - i would jump on this! And we do have to give credit to the brilliant Rolls Royce lift fan system. They really were the only ones with 50+ years of running STVOL jets (Harrier). This is really the first time in history that VSTOL jets can be deployed with weapons and payloads that rival super carriers with catapults. All in all, this has turned out to be a incredible ship and setup.

China and Russia are both currently in advanced work on a stealth bomber and have prototypes flying. We need to plug this hole in our defences because there are certain things that only a heavy bomber can do, that a sub, carriers and F-35's, destroyers, cannot. @Communism is evil. Features such as "swarm" technology and upgrades to the helmet mounted displays proposed for Tempest are all software upgrades for the F-35 probably long before 2035. The lasers for Tempest can also be added to F-35s. F-35s already have the world's most powerful engine to fire lasers. By 2035, F-35s will have already gone through many block upgrades and be practically identical to 6th generation aircraft, including the American one whose 6th generation technology demonstrator is already flying we are told.

So you need to supply twice as much, which costs more as you need to fuel the ships to get to the QE class, you also need more ships to carry the diesel for the ship, jet fuel and armament. Nuclear has unlimited range, is faster, are larger, carry more aircraft, have better sortie rates, require less maintenance, have power for future laser weapons, have more room for jet fuel and armament do to the ship not needing diesel, etc. As stated above nuclear is better other then initial cost. It depends on the mission whether it would be required, in this case since they aren't up against anyone who could fire back, they actually want to increase the radar signature so that anyone else watching can't gather data on its stealth profile. That's why they also have those fins attached in some areas, they're radar reflectors to increase the radar cross section. I'm guessing the extra training and equipment required to operate a few other fighters would mostly outweigh the savings, especially considering they would need to modify the carrier to have an arresting gear and angled deck ideally. You also wouldn't want to just save the F-35 for stealth only missions since you want pilots to get experience.

One of the main features of the F-35 is it’s Stealth, so if this is Combat Mission, why are two AIM-9X Air-to-Air Sidewinder Missiles being carried externally on the wing tips making the planes less Stealthy to the Russian Air Force Radar in Syria?
@chuckhooks6621
@chuckhooks6621 3 жыл бұрын
Stealth is only necessary the first few days of a very large war. After that, they will operate as normal jets. And it is not necessary to provide the Russians and Chinese a free stealth profile to gain intelligence about.

Would like to know how the USMC Pilots feel about being on an RN vessel and not having the usual catapult to launch the aircraft, and they also get to be the first pilots of USMC on the new carrier HMS Queen Elizebeth, not only a huge privilege for them but the Royal Navy as well

I’m not sure, but I don’t think the US Marines use catapult launches for this version of the F35 - it’s the vertical or short take off version. It’s the US navy that uses the naval variant. Just a guess…

@@richardpoynton4026 Yeah they don't use catapults on their LHDs, it's just a flat deck, so they'll see a performance improvement on take off with a Ski-Jump at least.

Your "guess" was actually a very good one. USMC F-35B's are not flown off of catapult assisted carriers, they use amphibious assault ships and take off and land just like the British pilots. F-35C's on the other hand, which are flown by the Navy, ARE flown from conventional catapult assisted carriers.@@richardpoynton4026

@@RJM1011 True that Marine Corps pilots have always flown Harriers from Amphibious Asault ships, but what's with the "no catapult crap"? We've always used BOTH STOVL and CATOBAR. What's the difference you may ask between the F35B and the F35C? Although the F-35B can do short takeoffs and landings, it also has the disadvantage of having the smallest range of the three variants, and it is also the least maneoverable of the three. This is because the engine of the F-35B with its lift fan take up more space in the fuselage limiting its gas tanks. The F-35C on the other hand has the largest wings, enabling it to carry more fuel out of the three variants, and is the biggest of the three variants, which enables it to have the greatest range by far, although it is not as maneoverable as the F-35A. Conventional carriers like the Gerald Ford and all Nimitz class carriers besides being bigger than all Ambhibious Assault ships, also have a huge advantage over them and HMS QE and HMS POW. They can launch and recover the E2D-Hawkeyes which are the highly sophisticated Naval versions of the USAF's AWACS. Sorry but the Amphibious assault ships along with the QE and POW can't do that. Conventional carriers also utilise the EA-G18 Growlers which are solely for electronic warfare. Again sorry but the Amphibious assault ships, along with QE and POW DON'T have that capability.

How come they're carrying the missiles externally? Is that deliberately to make them 'unstealthy'?

@@nathanb8721 The Canberra class is a good ship, but is it any better than the America class? I don't think it is. The Queen Elizabeth class is on another level. It's almost a supercarrier. I understand that it can't carry a large no. of amphibious landing craft, but man, it would be a major asset for the US, especially if it doesn't cost any more than the America. The USN would probably be upset to let the USMC have one, though.

@@KawaTony1964 No need for that when the USN has Nimitz and Ford class carriers and also has LHAs, LHDs, LPDs etc. Each ship has its role. The QE class is basically an American LHA.

Yeah in this case they've actually got radar reflectors attached to the aircraft too, since there's no need for stealth they don't want to let anyone gather information on them while they are stealthy.

@asdwca232 incorrect. It would have cost £2 billion to refit one ship with CATOBAR. And that excludes higher lifetime operating costs.
@TT-hd3zi
@TT-hd3zi 3 жыл бұрын
@asdwca232 I say refit because both carriers have already been constructed. However, in actual fact, when this £2 billion figure was created it was the calculated cost to fit catapults on one of the ships before she had finished construction (with the other one being scrapped immediately to pay for it). So it wouldn't have been cheaper to construct them with catobar from the beginning. An often overlooked problem was buddy tanking. Indigenous air to air refueling is a necessity for catobar carrier operations to assist in landings. The UK would have had to pay to develop buddy tanks for the F35 or buy Super Hornets which means further costs. While the F35C is cheaper, it's not by much at all.

@asdwca232 again, it would have cost an extra £2 billion and left us with one carrier instead of two.
