Love these review videos! I upgraded my cheapo kayak to the compass based on your review of it. It is simply amazing! I use it in Port Phillip Bay. @@ByronTeaHill no worries. I hope more people get on the compass. It really is the best value for money kayak on the money. The main selling point for me was that it is still light enough to get on top of the car without any hassle, whereas an outback (which I was originally going to buy) would have needed a trailer and space to store it. and, my god.. the turning circle. Another great review. I have been following your kayak reviews to help me decide on what will suit me to get around the Hawkesbury River from Brooklyn out to Pittwater. With the help of your reviews and my own research I've narrowed it down to the Hobie Mirage Compass for my fishing set-up. It's going to be the perfect kayak to get me in and around all the oyster leases and flats and also enough of a kayak to get out and around Pittwater for a little more open fishing. I really enjoyed your NZ fishing trip series, so great action and your reaction to the shark was priceless lol. Keep up the good work.

hey Byron. probably my fav way to fish is to walk the skinny water for bass n cod n doing so u r minimalist fishing, obviously. as i said before i am not into kayaks, but i do c a use for this Hobie Lynx in that form of fishing. as u have stated in the review(👍as always)it runs in a couple of inches, really lite for portage wen needed in that type of fishing n there is no storage. because of the minimalist fishing u dont need storage n even wen u do camp its minimalist as well in that fishing style, as we do. i think this cud be my first kayak, research time. i love this style of fishing because its so refreshing from the bass boat n all that stuff thats goes with the Nitro.

Great clip again bud ✅ After having a good run on my PA 14 purchased from HWS loving it but just a bit to big and bulky and not slim line enough for me . I opted to jump onto a new outback 21 and there is no turning back. So compact so slim line and light I feel a lot more on the water than a bob on top of the water as well as faster. And a big plus for me is the kick up fins and power pole mount already built into the outback and the steering handles are basically flush with the body instead of sticking up above as the PA does . Love it so much 💥

Thanks for the great review 👍 I Love my Hobie Outback for fishing rivers and lakes but it is heavy to handle, and I have to tow it around on a trailer. At 20kg I think the Lynx would be a great and much easier alternative fishing and touring platform and be able to roof top it when towing the van.

I think that’s one of the main reasons to consider swapping. I think the outback is awesome if you have a low car, loading system or enough upper body strength. It’s a popular kayak when loading isn’t an issue

Another great review. As always full of great unbiased advice,and heaps of enthusiasm. I’ve only been fishing out of a kayak for about two and a half years,had an awful experience with a kayak that was far to small for me and capsized. Learnt a lot from that !!. Your reviews led me towards purchasing a 2020 outback ,ITS CHANGED THE WAY I FISH. I’m based in Canberra ,I mainly fish lakes,but when the world allows I like to hit batemans bay and Jarvis bay. Decked out with all the toys (most have been purchased from HWS . My fish finder is a lowrance hook 2 , I bought it because that’s what the budget at the time allowed . I mainly use it to check water temp ,depth and speed. The opportunity of an upgrade would be sensational and be a game changer for my fishing. Thank you again for the reviews,keep them coming. Good luck to whoever is the lucky winner of the fish finder. Tony

Well done Byron - great review. I have a PA14 360 and a 2019 Outback. I must admit the Lynx appealed for travel, but I just can’t see it replacing either of my current kayaks. The PA14 360 has amazing control and is just plain huge, but in strong wind/tide, it is hard work. It’s also horrible off the water 😂. The current Outback shape is still my favourite and I believe the best all-rounder on the market. It cuts through the chop, is super stable, has the most intelligent layout for fishing I’ve seen and is far easier to handle off the water. It’s not quite as stable as the PA14, has less overall storage, lacks the MD360 (oh, it only!), but in terms of handling and usability, it can’t be beat. When the water gets really messy, surprisingly I prefer the Outback to the PA, as it just feels safer when you’re busting through messy conditions. I’ve had the Outback in conditions which would worry me in a large boat, but never felt unsafe. As I fish bays, rivers, creeks and dams, I need the ultimate all-rounder, so if I could keep only one of my kayaks, I reckon you know which one I’d keep!
@ByronTeaHill3 жыл бұрын
Hey Troy! Thanks for sharing your thoughts mate. I agree that both those guys are well suited for the rough weather. Personally I go the other way and like the 360 in the bad weather, I just like being able to rotate the nose. Anyway mate, tight lines - always awesome to see you on here!!!

I fish inshore and have replaced my outback with the lynx. Just making the trip so much easier moving the kayak and my gears around. Haven’t had any issues with choppy or big swells yet with this platform. Yes the lynx does get push around in choppier condition but the fact that it sits on top of the water makes it easier to reposition and takes less effort to do so vs my outback. Longer distant I will agree that it’s less effort to move the more stream line outback along.

Thanks for the review on an interesting hybrid. I don't own one, but love the look of the Hobie PA14 - would do nicely for me here chasing Jacks in Sunshine Coast canals! Keep up the great content mate.

Excellent review as always. Was always curious about the lynx and how it travels in bad weather. The lightness of it is a strong advantage as you say, to get up n go. I have a Hobie Compass and love it. Generally fish with it in Port Philip bay targetting squid, snapper, flattys...anything that bites really. Also love it in Patto river for bream and EPs. Lakes such as Blue Rock for trout/bass. Absolutely love it

I was thinking of hitting blue rock. May go for a flick over the next fortnight. Thanks for getting involved Matt. Tight lines dude

My dream is to eventually get a outback, I usually do some inshore fishing near my place when the conditions are too rough to launch the boat off the beach but in those conditions the fishing is usually red hot. I can definitely see some crew using the lynx offshore, the storage would be a issue but the confidence of it not sinking is a definitely positive.

Hey Byron, great video on the Lyxn. My favourite kayak is the hobie compass. Currently on a perception tribe but want and look forward to a pedal drive kayak in the near future. I love fishing estuaries and after watching some of your recent videos, hooking a Kingy would be wonderful!! Anyway thanks for creating these videos and content, much appreciated! Cheers Andrew.

I currently have a 2020 outback and love it. I fish mainly big lakes. My main complaint with the out back is the seat height and the rudder lines that are always changing with the temperature. I think the lynx would be a perfect travel kayak, no to much to deal with but it would allow you to slip into places where you couldn’t take a bigger yak. I keep eyeballing a PA but just need to save up the cash.

Currently own a Jackson Cuda 14. It pretty much does everything I could want from a kayak at this point so I'm not sure I would upgrade to any other brand yet. Main fishing areas are Altona, Mornington and areas around Frankston. Definitely other areas I want to explore and no better way than in a kayak in my opinion as it gets me just about anywhere a boat can't 👌👌. Appreciate the honest review as always about the new lynx. Was considering it but it won't suit my requirements. 👍👍

Love your no bull shit reviews, always honest and very informative, keep up the good work mate and don’t change👍 I have an entry level prop drive kayak and fish as many comps as possible, main waters I fish is on the Murray River SA. There is just no better feeling than being on the water at that golden hour as the sun comes up, at least if you don’t catch a fish you have that sunrise photo 😂 given the chance I would ultimately love to upgrade to an new outback and unlock the stability and comfort that Hobie is known for🤙🎣

Another great video mate it's got me itching to get back on the water. Love my PA14 and I've taken it everywhere from creek bass fishing, up and down the coast chasing bream and also offshore chasing kings dodging the monster ship that delivers the new cars haha

Hey Byron, great review. I'm saving up to upgrade to a Hobie PA. I Currently have a generic 3 meter kayak that's done me really well. i'm ready for the upgrade to a pedal powered kayak and this has given me some thought. Think i'll stick with the Hobie PA as my goal but may settle for the outback. My mate just got an outback and i'm hella jealous. I'm hitting the lakes as soon as i can get of lockdown - blue rock/eildon/Upper colliban/Wendouree for trout. great job mate keep it up.

Great review legend. I’ve still got an old Malibu mini x paddle kayak. It has been thrown off cliffs, dragged in all sorts of bush to reach untouched spots, but time to upgrade. Definitely tossing up between outback and compass, lynx would be perfect for the mrs I reckon.

I'll go against the flow of the PA14 and I'll say for me, the Hobie compass looks awesome. Sure I'd love to have a PA14, but the weight and needing a trailer throws me off. The compass would be so easy to get on and off my car and I would have a ball customising it to best suit the lakes for trout fishing. Awesome videos as always mate 💪🤟
@ByronTeaHill3 жыл бұрын
Honestly mate, hobie Compass = my favourite kayak, best value for money and awesome to modify and customise. It’s a threat choice MainTrain.
@ewanhall2853 жыл бұрын
I own an Outfitter but my ideal kayak would be something easier to car top that could handle a mix of estuary and inshore - thinking the Compass. I grew up just paddling so while Hobie is untouchable for fishing I do miss just going for a paddle sometimes.

I know what you mean dude. Compass is a great kayak, good value for money

Byron, just recently hooked up on your videos and they are by far the best getting around for the content you cover. I own a Pescador pilot which I guess is a bit of a poor mans Kayak in the pedal market but gets me by. Hobbie outback would probably be me go to if I could afford it. I own an old model Lowrance sounder which identifies structure, however unfortunately doesn’t capture waypoints. I fish open water in Perth but will soon start exploring our river systems. Keep up the fantastic videos dude 👌🏼.

Mate that’s an awesome thing to say, thanks buddy. I hope you find the channel. entertaining mate. Open water on the west coast would be awesome to fish!!!!

Another great review Byron. Love your videos! I used to fish from a passport 10.5 but decided to sell and recently upgraded to a brand new outback. I loved the ease of loading and unloading the passport however i wanted a more comfortable platform to fish from and the ability to fish locations i would not be game taking the little passport to. I enjoy targeting bass and mangrove jack in the gold coast rivers and creeks but hoping to broaden my horizons with the new outback.
@ByronTeaHill3 жыл бұрын
Great to hear! Glad you upgraded from the 10.5, it would be chalk and cheese compared to the outback!. Entered and good luck dude

Recently got my outback (thanks Cullen HWS) and I absolutely love it. It feels so comfortable in open waters like jervis bay. Byron - thoughts on the lynx h rail for the outback?
@ByronTeaHill3 жыл бұрын
Not as essential, some people like them. I wouldn’t unless there was something specific I was trying to achieve. There are already mounting points everywhere on the outback :)
