@mr.orwell5680 Жыл бұрын
Replace ute with S15 but here’s the jist This is what I found out: 1. It’s turn signals are amber which meet US requirements 2. Any suspension modifications to meet US standards can most likely use G8, SS, and Caprice parts which are of US specifications. 3. Modify the Ute at a specialty shop that deals with Aussie cars so it meets crash safety standards and have it inspected. 4. The engine should run on US low sulfur gas and it shouldn’t be a problem with the Ute, but you should always make sure it does. 5. The Ute’s dash needs to be in MPH to be legal to import. But after the car is legally in the states you can switch it back to an authentic KPH. 6. Emissions, get a catalytic converter and work on the ECU to meet California regulation. 7. Labeling, lots of labeling. Make sure the vin is on the left side, airbag warning, fuel safety system label, emissions control label, tire information, child safety seatbelt labels, and a safety certification label.

The exemption that allows you to title them, states that the vehicles are for showing purposes only I think that there is a very low annual mile limit like 400 miles or so. So no it is not just some tagged street legal drive it all the time thing, you would have to pay to have it federalized, and that process could take a year or longer and exceed $50,000 perhaps even $100k. In order to have a federalized it would need all of the computers to be flashed to our protocol's, the Ute and wagon bodies would likely need to undergo crash testing because those structures were never federalized as a GM vehicle here (sedans g8 and ss, and coupe gto, all federalized, and their structures and restraint systems already crash tested for this country. But these are just not normally titled vehicles. If you use the vehicle for anything other than show purposes, you are likely to face fines and/or charges and subject to its registration being canceled.

Yes just left a comment saying the same. I think the cap is 400 miles a year or something super low and it has to be to or from a show, so if you get pulled over, and you pull out your registration, they're going to ask you what you were doing where are you driving, and if your answer is anything but to or from 'x' show, you'll be facing problems. Same as antique tags in Florida I don't understand why people do it, you automatically limit your usage of the vehicle and are subject to provide proof in an odometer statement. I found it detrimental to a vehicle in Florida to have an antique tag.
@dawhiteman145110 ай бұрын
@@jdsimon I think it’s 2,000 miles/year (could be different in other places) and you’re legally allowed to only drive to and from events,shows, track days,etc. But the caveat is that the vehicle you’re importing has to have a certain amount of significance to justify importing it before it’s legally available: Example the Holden’s in these videos are a rare sight in the US because we never got the utes or the wagons(we were but Pontiac’s death and 2008 collapse stopped that).
@jdsimon10 ай бұрын
@@dawhiteman1451 it doesn't have to have any historical significance or anything. It's for show or display if somehow you end up pulled over and you are not taking the car to its storage facility or taking it to a show, you're in for it. I'm quite certain I know here in Florida they will cancel your registration, they'll do the same if you can't corroborate your miles should they ask you, and it's in the couple of hundreds (mi/km) per year. Technically these can't just be used as a personal vehicle, and I know some hard head will say I will know I'm still going to drive it this this that that whatever when you get pulled over, and you will most likely if your car is either attention-grabbing, or old like an antique, in Florida when you apply for an antique registration/tag, you are relinquishing your rights to use the vehicle just free and clear it's much like the display laws at that point. You are allowed to use it for leisure (antique tags, not the display only cars) but it's within many confines, I think unless it's the weekend they can have probable cause to pull you over and see what you're doing if you're just driving or commuting. And it's a low mi per year allotment, and I don't personally know because I've never had one but I think they require that you fill out an odometer statement for every registration renewal from that point on. Also the antique registration status carries to a different owner and can carry itself out of state. I have seen people buy an antique car and as soon as they went into the title and everything they forced them to get an antique special tag, because it had been previously registered as an antique vehicle/minimal use vehicle.
