It’s fascinating that Andor goes through three episodes of Not Getting Caught and then three more episodes of Not Getting Caught, only to Get Caught for something he may or may not have been really guilty of in the last five minutes of one episode. It makes a statement about just how messed up the Empire is: it doesn’t matter what you do or how careful you are, you’re never safe.
@intense79nick
@intense79nick Жыл бұрын
And it's a great way to illustrates how the Empire is changing tactics, becoming more aggressive. The exact reaction Luthen wanted, to squeeze the populace into rebellion, and in turn squeezes our main character into realizing he can't just be sly and keep his head down anymore and he must now act more directly against the Empire.
@Gealaiche
@Gealaiche Жыл бұрын
Yeah i was gonna say, the whole thing with him getting arrested out of the blue kinda hammers home the point that he just cant run from it, that nobody can. The Empire's everywhere and just doesn't care whether you're trying to keep your head down and avoid "Imperial entanglements" or not. I really like this episode for showing how pervasive the Empire's choke hold on the galaxy is. Nobody's safe..

@Dr. Knowledge this whole show is quite different from any Star Wars movie. Less action action. Super slow burn which allows for heavy character and world building. I’m very excited for this difference. Similar to the old Expanded Universe, they explored different genres. Andor is showing that the same can be done in Star Wars shows. Marvel’s Werewolf by Night was a successful dive into horror. I’m hoping Star Wars might eventually try it out and do Galaxy of Fear (a fun young reader series of books).

2:14 Love how they had Wullf Yularen in this show even though the actor doesnt look too much like Yularen but rocks the facial hair. Yularen was heavily featured in The Clone Wars alongside Anakin commanding the Jedi Cruiser. He was last seen in Star Wars Rebels as a high ranking member of the ISB and was actually featured in A New Hope as one of the Imperials in the Deathstar meeting Room, only person wearing a white outfit which made him stand out. He was made a character in Clone Wars so it's another case of a background character being made a much more important character decades later. Yularen was killed when the Death Stat exploded.

I actually enjoyed this episode just as much as E6, but for different reasons. Where E6 had action, this one had intrigue and heart. Mon's conversation and Marva's speech to Andor were so perfectly executed.

Irish actress Denise Gough, as the villainous, driven Empire officer Dedra Meero, has done brilliantly - once, she was homeless, and a junkie; now, she's an acclaimed stage actress. It's also excellent to hear two other Irish actresses in key roles - Fiona Shaw as the incredibly natural Maarva Andor, and Genevieve O'Reilly as the secret Rebel, Senator Mon Mothma. Great to see Irish actors in key, superb roles.

So this is the one episode that is "standalone" in the season, but it's full of moments critical to the rest of the story. The acting in this episode is absolutely stellar - I mean, they made an Imperial meeting absolutely fraught with tension, and we are finally seeing what exactly Mon Mothma is up to. And then the scene where Maarva tells Cassian she can't leave Feerix - Fiona Shaw is my MVP of the season... This episode made me love the show. Edit: I can't believe I forgot to mention Stellan Skarsgard's performance when he's talking to Mon - this cast is SO stacked with talent!

When Mon met Luthern in his shop, notice how when he faced the window, his words could be interpreted harmlessly as the sales pitch of an antiquities dealer. He turned away from the windows to say something directly related to rebellion. That circling conversation between Mon and Tay was so, so good. The writing is incredible. Pardagaz is actually a pretty decent supervisor...under the circumstances of being cog in a fascist empire and all. On rewatch, I'm seeing how things said early on reverberate through the final arc of the season.

Since you guys were on a bit of a Superman kick, I think it would be appropriate if you guys watched "Brightburn". It's basically; what if Superman wasn't an obedient child. Holden asked the question "How would you even discipline a kid with powers like that?" Well, Brightburn explores that. What if the kid didn't turn out wholesome like Clark? It's a horror movie take on Superman's childhood.

As much as we are supposed to hate the Empire, I really enjoy ISB Supervisor Mira's character in this show, she has a great performance and really embodies that ruthless Empire mindset. My favorite part of Andor is how it humanizes the Empire. Yes, they are racist fascists, but they are also politicians and bureaucrats just clawing their way up the prestige ladder. Man, it's still not coming across to me that they're really enjoying this. There's very little talk about all of the great things this show does well. This episode is full of great lines and continues to give a unique look at the Star Wars universe. It feels so much more believable because we get to see things like airports, people wearing business outfits in cubicles, and even what a Star Destroyer looks like when it flies over your head. Even little touches in storytelling do this, like Yularen and Mon Mothma bringing up Palpatine casually because to most of the universe he's just a head of state, not some big evil space wizard that he appears as in the films. It's all small stuff, but it immerses me in the Star Wars universe in a way almost no other work in this franchise has.

I have had the same sentiment since they began reacting, with a specific complaint that they don't seem to really study or care about the social undertones here and how it relates to our world. 2 theories I have for that is that they are either conservative, or that they are really dense. By dense I mean that they are just not used to, or care to watch works of art for meaning or to relate to it in any way, but just as a dose of mindless entertainment before they move on to the next node to consume. A third theory is that they are just in a rush to get as many reactions out as possible due to the upcoming baby. Take your pick.
