Hollow Knight OST: Area Themes got me HIGH! | Musician's Reaction

A lot of these tracks are adaptive to when you enter combat, bringing in a more rhythmic track then fading it out when the combat is done. Several of these tracks share melodies: White Lady, White Palace and Pale Court have a common theme, as do City of Tears and Soul Sanctum (very reharmonized). And Fog Canyon is pretty much a repeat of Greenpath with effects. (Not sure I remembered all of them.)

Thanks for doing this. The hollow knight soundtrack is so masterful and evokes emotions on so many levels, that its really one of the most memorable ones, even after having played hundreds of games, very few ever reach this level of perfection. It raises the bar so high. Its inviting, its soothing, its playful, its solemn and yet its also mysterious, powerful, sad, majestic and so much more. The whole game is all about environmental storytelling, an audiovisual feast of sorts and you have no idea how the soundtrack actually plays into this storytelling paired with the insanely good artwork of all the areas in this game. Atmosphere has never been this good in a metroidvania game. One of a kind. Sorry to the soundtracks of countless other games, but you simply can't compare to this, as simple as that. Christopher Larkin must have done a devil pact to achieve this perfection.

This is a great video but I highly recommend listening to the full version of Pale Court, this video seems to have cut and looped it in the middle of the song which really missed the big impact it has. Shame since that's my favorite on the ost.

The bonebottom ost is from team cherry's next game hollow knight:Silksong I don't know why they put it there but It's really good so it doesn't matter that much

I personally love the area music far more than most of the boss themes (which are still good). They just have a feel to them that I can't get enough of.

Oh man, hollow knight is a gorgeous game, i love the music. Christopher Larkin is a genius for composing these beauties. I would love to hear your opinion on the animatics for "Epic: The Musical". It's a rock musical based on the odyssey, inspired by the story telling in rpg video games and anime. The music is so good, but it is a story, so you need to listen to them in order. Lots of content for your channel and guaranteed views as it's blowing up right now!

So after listening to all the area themes, which one would you rather stay in and listen for a long time the most? For me it'd be City of Tears and Queens Garden

Did you listen to the complete tracks, or just the “calm” area loops? The OST area themes have a calm portion that loops and then develops into a more intense theme for combat or platforming sections. You didn’t seem to react to any of the more intense portions of the themes…

It seems that just the "calm", didn't know they were just a section, all the compilation videos I found were more or less the same 🤔

Note than Pale Court doesn't actually played anywhere in the game(I love it though), I'm pretty sure it's an orchestral version of White Palace. It's just included in the OST.

Im not sure the combat version of the themes were included in the video you reacted to. Example, you hear crystal peak theme cut out just as it takes off.

Nice video!!! For songs, I suggest to give a try to eve, I'm sure will be one of your favorite! ( one of the biggest anime singer ). Song suggestion: dramaturgy, fight song, insomnia. For ost i suggest to check" made in abyss", is a MASTERPIECE.

Mmm, well I dunno if it performed well either, but I'm glad to have vibed with you -you other reflexive motherf&cker.- Have you played or heard anything from Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps? Gareth Coker, the composer, is one of my top three of all time, along with this composer, Christopher Larkin, and of course, the GOAT, Nobuo Uematsu. I think you'd really enjoy the Ori soundtracks.

@Jhulian_R I know very little about audio, BUT, I know my audio started sounding weird like this once because I was using the wrong input/output. My headphones had a hands-free output, and that had significantly worse quality. So maybe check if all your audio inputs/outputs are correct, and are going directly to the right audio channels
