Sadly, as a military man, I met my English wife in Sweden where she was a teacher. Married in Alva, Scotland. We had 3 sons born in England & 1 in N.Ireland. After 27 years active service emigrated to Canada with all family & our big dog ! Wife hates the pipes, the kilt, Scotland, all Scots (inc. me) & managed to translate that hate to 2 of the boys. Yet my boys (two of whom still wear the kilt & align themselves as Scottish, born in England only because of my military duty. ) Three of my sons visit me here in Canada & they are always welcome at my family homes in Scotland. However the reverse is not true 2 of us are not welcome in wife's home. We are still married but separated for over 20 yrs, will not divorce as she is entitled to my military pension on my death, so she is hanging on to me for that purpose, she is 10 years younger than me ! Calculating just like the Meghan Markle Duchess ! Hope to outlive her but no hatred from me. I still have many friends (salt of the earth) including, ex-in-laws in England.

bessie1854, Marine, let me rephrase that for you! You are first and foremost “A FORMER ACTIVE DUTY UNITED STATES OF AMERICA MARINE “! You earned that title and the right to wear it as have your Fellow Brother and Sister Marines since the beginning of OUR proud and esteemed Elite Fighting Force! Now let’s raise a proper tankard of great American Whiskey and SAY IT PROUD AND SAY IT LOUD SEMPER FIDELIS TO ONE AND ALL TILL THE END OF TIME! (or at least until we all fall of our stools)!!! I Know I’m Proud of my fellow Marines as well as I am to have earned the right and distinction to wear the title “UNITED STATES MARINE”! As a patch on my pilot’s nylon flight jacket proudly proclaims “I’m sure to go to Heaven because I’ve done my time in Hell”. That statement is as accurate today as it was during the Vietnam War! And Korea, WW II, WW I and down to OUR inception! Playing it Forward! The Entire Middle East! In the Future, GOD HIMSELF will only know what SHIT HOLE BATTLEGROUND HE’LL THROW AT US!!! My active duty stint in our Beloved Corps began when I had the honor of graduating from MCRD San Diego along with the rest of my Brother Marines holding our platoon standard high proclaiming to one and all that THE UNITED STATES MARINES OF PLATOON 347 were leaving Our Mark on the World! While I went on to numerous”Boot Camps” becoming a NAVAL AVIATOR and F4 Phantom Pilot, I was no more nor any less than my platoon mates of Platoon 347. Sure I added some more platoons to that list, Aviation Officers Candidate 2nd Lieutenant, Radar Intercept Officer I. The rear cockpit of an F4. But before that! Some asshole admin clerk made sure that I was properly indoctrinated as a first and foremost 0300 Marine Corps infantry Officer! PLATOON LEADERS COURSE here I was! After all that, I could finally hold my head high and shoulders back, knowing that I was finally an “OFFICER OF MARINES”. So Brothers and Sisters just remember you’re not the only Marine that shed Blood, Sweat and Tears to eRn that illustrious title of UNITED STATES MARINE! I swear that the penning of this motivational tirade, I could Actually Hear The Entire Marine Corps Hymn playing in my mind! I do have an proper explanation for it, In this writing I did consume two bottles of Baileys Irish Cream Liquor! It’s a Marine Corps Naval Aviator thing! As an Air Force Major once stated at the officers mess at DaNang airbase in 1966, “All You Are is a Rowdy bunch of drunken College Fraternity brothers wearing pilots wings” me, being our squadron official “Wise Ass” reminded said Major that there was a very good reason that Naval Aviators both Navy And Marine earned the distinction of wearing Gold Wings while Army and Air Force pilots only got to wear Silver Wings. That being WE BOTH TAKE OFF AND LAND ON AIRCRAFT CARRIERS IN ROUGH SEAS. IT TAKED SKILL AND TOTAL INSANITY TO LAND ON A WET, PITCHING AND YAWING FLIGHT DECK ON A SHIP THAT ISDOING ITS ABSOLUTE BEST TO KICK YOUR ASS AND KEEL HAUL YOU! Ladies and Gentlemen, at that point, you could have heard a pin drop! Then, said Major raised his glass and uttered “One and All, A toast to ALL Naval Aviators They Are A Breed Above Us Mere Mortals” arhat Sumbitch brought a tear to everyone’s eyes that was there! This was a TRUE STORY! Now, back to you Marine, you carry that title proudly to your grave and NEVER tarnish or sully the title! SEMPER - FI!!! Former Active Duty Captain and proud fighter/attack pilot USMC Arthur R. Tafil USMC! I’m 72+ years young now and I still hold my head high and my shoulders squared away “ Just Remember These Words, NOT AS LEAN, JUST AS MEAN, HERE STANDS A FORMER ACTIVE DUTY MARINE”!

I am from New Zealand, it brought tears to my eyes to see dark skin people marching so proud to be a scotsman. There is hope after all.
@tomlucas48906 жыл бұрын
here we have no colour code, when you bleed ,its red, Scotland is Scotland, not England, we welcome every one in. we all worship one god, whether Muslim, Jew or Christian , I don't give a damn about the colour of your skin, just a friendly hello, and come join in.
@conorhowells73066 жыл бұрын
Except not everyone thinks like that. Great if some do, but it's silly to just say well anyone can just walk into Scotland. Funnily enough I'm from New Zealand too, no terror attacks here though, just saying.

If its terror attacks , just watch the Billie Connolly patch , 'terrorist attack in Glasgow'

Yes he is very funny, but at some point you have to stop making a laugh out of it. The Northern hemisphere has had so much immigration lately. You can't deny attacks like the one spoken about are closely related to the amount and of what kind of immigration you have had, so yes, its terror attacks I'm worried about. In New Zealand we have had far less immigration of the kind had in Europe and the Americas and we have had no terror attacks. I love my country and I love New Zealanders; I don't want my country or our people to be attacked and killed for our charity. Yes, we should help people but perhaps we should be helping them in their own countries instead of taking a non-nonsensical approach to immigration and assuming everybody thinks like us.

This makes me so proud to be Scottish- I'm not but I wish I was when I see this. We English are not allowed to celebrate our nationality- if we do we are labled as racist, jingoistic or zenophobic or all three!!

Join the club brother... I'm a yank. To those of that mindset, I say PISS OFF! What makes America exceptional is not that we're better, it's that we believe that our rights are God given, NOT government granted.

A few question to any Scots out there: 1. Why are the female service members not wearing kilts but skirts? 2. What clan is the Tartan from? and 3. Would it not be cool (albeit impractical) if the officers still carried claymores (if only for ceremonial purposes)?

Hark when the night is falling Hear! hear the pipes are calling, Loudly and proudly calling, Down through the glen. There where the hills are sleeping, Now feel the blood a-leaping, High as the spirits of the old Highland men. Towering in gallant fame, Scotland my mountain hame, High may your proud standards, Gloriously wave, Land of my high endeavour, Land of the shining rivers, Land of my heart for ever, Scotland the brave.

SAOR ALBA GU BRAH Here's to the men of the Scottish Division From the time the world began. And here's to the Pipes and Drums as they march Each man to serve his Clan. Remember the Seaforths, the Camerons, the Argylls, The Black Watch, the Gordons with their cocky wee smiles, The Cameronians, The Royal Scots and the KOSB, The HLI, the Greys and the Bold Fusilier with a glint in his eee'. Think of their honours, in battles they have won, Think of the fathers, the brothers, the sons, Think of the scars that we cannot see, And the lands far away, that they have set free. Now Honour these men from the present to the past, With great pride in your heart and thoughts that will last.
