Man, I've missed you doing Home Free. It's been way too long, and I have to thank YOU for introducing me to this fantastic group! The part you thought was a different singer was still Austin, just singing in his lower range. You really need to react to something newer. Chris Rupp has not been with the band for 6 years now. The newest member, Adam Chance has a beautiful baritone range, and takes over bass when Tim is singing lead. I would recommend you check out the 5-part harmonies they do (without beatboxing) in Crosby, Stills, & Nash's "Helplessly Hoping," and "How Great Thou Art." And you should see their rendition of Boys II Men's "End of the Road." I love your reactions, sir, just wish you could squeeze a little more Home Free into your rotation. Keep up the fantastic work!

@LoRyder Same here. If it weren't for this channel and the reaction video to Misty Mountains I never would've gone down the Home Free rabbit hole branching off to Voiceplay, PTX and other a cappella bands as well as discovering The Hound + The Fox (the couple in this music video). So Ken Lavigne, thank you for opening this can of wonders for me.

Some very useful behind-the-larynx insights, Ken! Thinking Out Loud is one of my fave songs of the last 20 yrs. This was a nice interpretation, but I do like Ed Sheeren's version a little better. Ken, I know you like to watch singers actually performing, so I have a suggestion for you: Angelina Jordan in the studio booth with nothing but a mic and a very quiet instrumental track, singing I'm A Fool To Want You a couple years ago. It's a great insight into her dedication and technique. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWrXfmCJpcilZ7M

Please check out Tim's and Austin's backyard jam of My Maria with some of their friends. You'll love it. FYI, this Mashup of Thinking Out Loud and Get It On was filmed in ONE CONTINUOUS TAKE. Chris Rupp would take the bass for Tim when he was with the group. Adam Chance does it now. Also, Austin is singing all the way up to the point where Tim starts "Let's Get It On." Then, at the end after Tim finishes up "Let's Get It On", he hands it back to Austin and he is the one that hits the high notes at the end.

This is so good. That singer you were wondering about was Austin. He was singing in his lower register. And the singer who would do the baseline when Tim goes high would be Chris (cowboy hat). He’s a baritone/tenor. He left the group in 2016 to go solo and was replaced by Adam Chance. Adam is a baritone/bass and so good. (I would recommend Helplessly Hoping, I Can’t Outrun You to hear more of Chance). To hear Tim flex his voice there’s a video of Little Red Riding Hood that’s outstanding. It’s at a Patreon Party so it’s a little loosey goosey with them drinking and some silliness but it’s live and so good. Also there’s a new video of Austin and Tim singing My Maria on Austin’s channel Austin Brown music that shows Tim’s high range and it’s live too accompanied by music. So good. Loved your analysis and reaction!

Thank you for the shout out! I appreciate it! Yep! That is Austin still singing where you thought it was another singer! He has so much flexibility and has a beautiful lower register! Loving Tim so much! Talking about flexibility! He has it in spades, right? Would you please react to the latest solo release of Austin's titled " TEARS IN HEAVEN " the hit classic by Eric Clapton. It's PHENOMENAL with a touch from him as only he can do! Austin is very special! Also for a treat check out Austin and Tim singing in the backyard on a Brooks and Dunn classic titled " MY MARIA 'You will definitely get some surprises on this one! WOW! What talent and really fun! Thanks for reacting to this song. It was a lot of fun having you give us information of the way a note is held etc. Really enjoy all you have to say. Yes it was Austin still singing when you couldn't see who it was. He will drop to that bit of a lower register with as much ease as going into the rafters. Tim has such a high register to an under ground sound also. All 5 of them have surprises that just amaze us all. If you would like Austin Brown. Tim Foust, and Friends sing My Maria in the back yard. It is so good and you will see a great register by Austin and Tim. The guitar playing by Tim's friend Chris Chatham is amazing. You will love it. Anyway it is a thought. Up to you.

These guys are just the best at doing mashup songs. Prefer this over Ed Sheeran's version. Austin does a great job of the song & Tim's bass voice is perfect for the Marvin Gaye song. Thank you for all the instruction you gave in this video. I especially appreciated your comments on Austin's seemingly 'ease' in his singing. I have noticed this (particularly in their original "God Bless the USA" video) where he seems to be barely working at all as he leads in the vocals. I had never heard anyone before mention this as a "skill" per se, but as you did...I recalled I had clearly and memorably noted this previously in his performances...so, yes...a skill indeed.🙂 Great review...thank you!

Ken, I appreciate that you are finally listening to Home Free, but not appreciably compared to other reaction you are doing. These guys have more than paid their dues. I have been following this group since their appearance and win on The Sing Off and I can assure you that you have only touched the tip of the iceberg. Using this video as a "for instance" that was live just a few days ago while they were on tour. Check it out (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqLchH1pgLaDeK8) and then double back with the actual video they did with Alabama on it. They have done reinterpretations of classic songs with the original artists as well as mash up versions like The Butts Remix. You haven't heard the extent of what Home Free can really do. Just a small snippet.

I recently listened to a review that Chris Rupp did for this song (he was one of the originators of the band...no longer with them, but in this song). Surprisingly he said they set this up to shoot it in one take with the camera. It took them hours to get it right and they had to keep starting over every time there was a mistake...and yet they are so professional, none of that shows.

When the Hound + the Fox need a bass they rely on Tim Foust or Adam Chance for that deep tone. See Tim in We Three Kings and Chance in Hurt and several other songs. Rob is in their Lion King, Feel the Love video. For Halloween the Hound + the Fox have an original song that they based on the Addam's Family called Rot Next to You. McKenzie Zamber wrote the song and her husband Reilly arranged it. They were also the couple with baby in Home Free's Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.

It was Austin slightly different tone. Chris is a baritone but not a strong bass. I think at times, the group is looking to see how to do this live. Meaning they don't do all the tricks up there as they have several songs got to perform. I think that's one of the considerations they do when arranging is how will this sound live w/ multiple songs singing?

Austin throughout the Ed Sheeran. It was just full chest in the lower third of his voice. He doesn't go there often but it is always nice.

Aside from all the vocal techniques you so accurately point out, notice that the entire video is done with one camera in one take! Between juggling the boys and the couple from one spot to the other behind the camera, the props, and the various lighting queues, one has to wonder how many it tries it took to get everything right.

At the time of this recording Chris Rupp took over bass when Tim was singing He said it was pushing his limits to do it.

There on this it was Chris R. Now it's Adam Chance, the baritone/bass. They all do tenor, also.
