Ngl after seeing this scene, I can honestly say wholeheartly that Homelander actually earned one of the top 10 spots of greatest villians in the history of television. I told the community that even by The Boys standards, this season will be the darkest one yet and this episode exceeded the expectations by an landslide. Mans had to literally channel his inner crazy Joker to get one of the most twisted, psychotic laughs I ever heard in television. Definitely on par with Ledger's, Phoenix's and Monaghan's own style. Best episode of the Boys yet. The only time I felt chills and such utter tension with this type of crazy in Tv was when Joker told Batman the real plan of Harvey Dent back in TDK and when Walter did an hit and run on two childkillers then shot one of them in the head with no hesitation. Honestly, The Emmys are really moving the goalpost if they don't give Antony Starr the acknowledgement he deserves for playing Homelander. I for one, from Day 1 hated Homelander and I still stand on that along with the rest of the supes and I hope in the end, Butcher goes full Eren Yeager on them but even with that and with all the shit he's done, I still couldn't help but empathize with him regarding how Vought treated him. Vought is the real enemy of The Boys including the man who stood his ground to an psychopath with powers and lived, Stan Edgar. No wonder he become the man we all know him as becuase they made an monster. Even when he said that not one of the scientists stood up to Vought and said that this is wrong, I think in a sense, even with what they did, he was self-consicous with that though of wanting love and compassion and instead of showing that side of what being human means to a kid no less, instead Vought exploited that weakness to control him to be obedient and him realizing that makes me more of a threat. In other words, let the ultimate crashout event begin..... After this ep, Homelander is forever GOATED as one of the best villains of all time. And I hope I see more of Antony in other works of media as well cuz he is a master of acting.

But what doesn't make sense is that Homelander allows Vought to continue operating. One would think that he'd be the first in line to put Vought out of business. If he would tell the public his true origin and how Vought is an evil corporation that needs to be put out of business, he'd get all the love and admiration he's been seeking. Instead he's settling for fear, which is obviously unsatisfying to him, hence his frustration about being "surrounded by sycophants".

It’s also interesting how he doesn’t just kill them. He does it in a symbolic way that makes it all the more cathartic. With Barbara’s fate being far more horrific. Those Bodies… The memories of seeing him torture them and rip them apart, the hunger/thirst she’ll soon feel and the stench she’ll have endured with those corpses. Hers is one of real agony but as I said the symbolism is amazing. “It’s a room John, it’s not good or bad”, “That’s easy to say from the other side of the door”. He made her eat those words for real and until her last breath, she’ll always remember that her own hubris and oversight caused not only her death but theirs as well.

@@dugnice excellent points and good question; he definitely chose to do inhumane things, by committing mass murder to those he didn't even know. The thing Barbara added to me is: the humanity you speak of, was he born with that or did they have to install that psycholigcally? I'd say, you could say, Homelander was literally born a monster, lasering his way out of the womb and killing everyone in the room as a newborn baby. What choice did the humans have but to treat him like they did? I mean, sure, one or two doctors making a joke about it isn't cool, but shouldn't warrant a grisly death sentence. Yep. This episode really defined what childhood trauma actually does to people. You become a prisoner of your own shame, agony, and helplessness. All your life is a flat circle that only leads back to the original trauma until it becomes your entire identity. Your coping mechanisms become weapons aimed at yourself. Also, it doesn't go away. Ever. Contrary to the stupid old adage "Time heals all wounds," no it doesn't. In fact, these wounds just get bigger and more unbearable with age. This was obviously not a fun watch for me. 😂

I completely agree! They act like he has no empathy but look what they have done to children and the supes in general, they are the ones lacking sympathy. The humans that are at vought and in the boys have no sympathy or empathy for the supes. Only soldier boy was a person who volunteered to be experimented on. He was a boy, a teenager, he went to school, made friends, joined the army all before he willingly took part in the experiment. No other except for storm front was a grown adult of sound mind and free will. The other supes are victims. It's like the Jedi, the Jedi themselves are victims and the Jedi order is evil.

This episode connects with everyone that's experienced childhood trauma and it hurts the most when it comes from our parents or legal guardians. @ the age of 10 I was adopted by my Grandparents who instead of giving me love and affection they gave me hell. I was beat and yelled at every day for simple things such as the way I dressed and the way I would comb my hair. I was forced to work on the weekend and I was beaten if I did mistakes during work. At the age of 11 I was hugging my grandpa when he pushed me hard and told me to F off that I'm no longer a kid and to start acting like a man. At school my teachers knew something was wrong with me but I had to lie on psychological tests to determine if I was a normal child. My grandpa had warned me not to speak up on how he's raising me. So I was terrified of him. Today I'm 33 and I don't have a relationship with him and don't plan on seeing him ever again. Years later I confessed to my gf and mom that i felt like a horrible person because when i was still a kid i would often think about Ki*li*g both of my grandparents in their sleep. But they told me that it was okay because i didn't act on those evil thoughts

I'm with you on Anthony Starr deserves an Emmy at least for his performance (I felt the same about Vincent D'Onofrio as 'Kingpin') However: As cathartic as it might feel to see the torturers get their 'due', in the end Homelander is a monster, just as bad as the ones he is punishing. The true thing to want is for them to somehow be brought to Justice, which yes, probably couldn't be done any other way (but he could have still did horrible things to them while keeping them alive,to suffer for their crimes).

To be fair, he did say some new faces, so some of them paid for their predecessors wrong doings. Granted they almost certainly would have participated had they been employed at that time 😂😂

S4 E4 was the day Homelander killed the rest of his humanity (4 commonly means death in Japanese and Chinese)

This scene was horrifying. He wanted them dead because he is a narcissist and they were a competition and a hindrance. So yes this was revenge because of how he was treated. Thanksvfor the video.]

My question, which Homelander should have asked, is 'why are they still there? Why is this lab being funded? There are no kids there, he's been gone for over 30 years but there's only one height chart drawn on the wall, are these people being paid to do nothing all day just because the company forgot they existed? Also, the Fudgie The Whale cake was the perfect touch.

He killed EVERYONE in that room. The problem is that everyone except Marty, Barbara and Frank, were new employees that did nothing wrong to him. As much as I can sympathize with his decision in killing those two, it's insane to say that he's justified in brutally murdering those 20-30 years old scientists. He did "kill all of his demons", but he also killed a dozen (probably) inocent people. Also, there's most likely a rescue team coming to investigate why all the conections in this lab are down, so I don't think Barbara is going to die. Playing devil's advocate here, as much as Barbara did overwatch all those experiments on young Homelander, in the entire Vought hierarchy and system, she's probably one of the least to be held accountable. It really is a paradox. She had her orders from her bosses (orders that she couldn't really avoid or say no to, since I'd guess that the experimentation on homelander was very closely watched by the entire company), yet she is the one that takes the most blame from the community and also is the one to get trapped in that room. I don't want to say that these people are completely without blame, but we need to see the larger picture, instead of just trowing rocks in rage. (that ending scene in the elevator was fucking nightmare fuel tho)

Considering the current state of the Oscar Awards, I think the Oscar's has lost its Prestige to where I dont care if my favorite Movie/Show/Actor receives an Award from Them anymore. That being said Anthony definitely deserves High Praise and a more Prestigious Award than the Oscar's.

I want to see Homelander redeem himself, make some big sacrifice to save everyone or something. He told himself to shed his humanity, he killed all those evil people, now everyone expects him to destroy everything which I guess is the obvious choice, but I think Homelander doesn't really know what he wants for the most part. He was forced on a certain path, and finding out how him wanting love was part of that, I kind of hope he see's he's doing the same thing with Ryan and maybe that makes him change and choose for himself. He does seem to care about his son. That probably won't happen, Homelander represents a lot in and out of the show that I doubt he'd be redeemed, but IDK. Its easy to see why Homelander turned into the person he was. Huie forgave A-Train, maybe forgiveness and redemption will be a part of it? I hope the end is Butcher and Homelander squaring off, all the sudden they find out Homelanders son and other kids were captured by the Government to be force controlled or killed and Buther and Homelander team up to save him. This also sparks something in Homelander seeing other kids suffer like he did, and maybe he sacrifices himself at the end and everyone turns out to love him after all.

would Homelander be more of an Anti-Hero? he saves people and does Hero things while doing darker things on the side or behind the scenes, this was dark but definitely him getting justice for torture as a child, I'm honestly shocked he didn't become like Zod as soon as he was old enough and take over the world or just destroy as much as possible as fast as possible

Imagine having your top supersoldier research facility without any kind of checks. I'm just a simple engineer but we call those fault measures. For example if you cut the powerline, Surveilance and the internet the system would automaticaly dispatch fire brigade/police department. If he didnt burry her somehow whe he got out they would just pick Barbara up. For the sake of story it makes perfect sense though to leave her there to rot.

I mean, what the fuck were they supposed to do, stand up to Vought and say "nah". Sure, but they are probably getting foreiting life at that point. I get that Homelander is justified in being furious at them, but I am not sure how much of a choice they really had. None of us would put Homelander, who back then was just a test subject showing promise above us and our family.

I really hope he doesn’t end up the GoT cast were he gets thrown in under produced, or in Lena Healy’s case, under marketed movies. I really hope he ends up in something like a Christopher Nolan movie as a bad guy.

Ever watch Clerks? They had the same kind of debate about blowing up the Death Star in Jedi. Did the workers building it deserve to die? They were innocent too, weren’t they? No. They weren’t. They knew who they were working for, what they were building, what it would be used for, and what the last one did to Alderaan. They knew and they still picked up their tools. Same with these scientists. They knew what they were hired to do and what that would entail, and rather than say “no, I won’t be a party to this,” they checked their ethics at the door and showed up to work. They sacrificed their integrity for a paycheck.

It really is a shame that the showrunners forgot they were telling a story, opting instead to cram as many political jabs as possible before people lose interest. Kimiko kills some Shining Light dudes, fights her sister, doesn’t talk to her, we don't learn anything new about them, and the plot doesn’t progress. Kimiko kills some Shining Light dudes, fights her sister, doesn’t talk to her, we don't learn anything new about them, and the plot doesn’t progress. Why is Homelander's complete rectifying backstory relegated to FUCKIN B-PLOT BELOW THAT? It is genuinely such a shame Kimiko and Frenchie's characters have been given the narrative equivalent treatment of a 15 car highway pileup.
