Tara, I tried this today with a slight change in ingredients. I used sodium carbomer as I did not have xantham gum soft , used lavender hydrosol and caprylic glucoside . It has come out really well, have kept the ph at 5 . Thank you soo much for this recipe.

Thanks ladies I had the same question. I might try babassu oil since I just bought some for the first time and it’s also derived from coconuts (but I can’t use actual coconut oil as it breaks me out; I read babassu is fairly low on the comedogenic scale). I can let you know if it works out if you’re interested. 🥥

@@persephonespomegranate Did this ever work out for you? I think i will use grapeseed oil or rosehip oil :)
@persephonespomegranate
@persephonespomegranate 3 жыл бұрын
@@jayciannax I did indeed! It was ages ago so I’m looking back at my notes - my notes aren’t very thorough tbh but I did state that it worked well with babassu (so I imagine you can sub in just about any carrier oil your skin loves or that has cleansing/astringent properties and it’ll be fine) but that I didn’t like the texture. It was “snotty” (sorry that’s graphic!). I know Marie over at Humblebee and Me says the same thing about using xanthan gum as the primary gelling agent - the texture is not pleasant - but I have to wonder if Tara is accessing a different grade than we Canadians are getting at our main formulating stores (Marie is Canadian and so am I). I’ve only ever seen one type of xanthan gum available but Tara specified “soft” in this recipe and she often references making sure we purchase “xanthan clear” in other recipes. So perhaps that’s the issue here - or I just don’t like xanthan period which is fine. There are alternatives. Other than that, this is great for drier skin types. I like a bit more of that traditional cleansing feel so will opt for foaming cleansers or gel cleansers moving forward vs this creamy type but I think this is a gentle but still effective cleanser. I’d be interested in trying again with a different gelling agent, eg sepimax zen or Hydroxyethylcellulose. If you want to keep it natural, give the xanthan a try. I also recently bought another natural gum so I could always give that a go and just see what happens...
@jayciannax

Persephone’s Pomegranate thank you so much for your insight! Yes, I have xantham gun SOFT. I know she’s mentioned that she prefers that one over any other so I’ll definitely be giving it a try tomorrow :D. I have pretty dry skin and I’m trying to formulate something that doesn’t give me that dry, tight feeling almost all cleansers do :/. Thanks again!
