it’s so the skin is the same texture/thickness throughout! it’s not as obvious with store bought ones since they’re pressed so thin, but with homemade ones it’s more apparent when the overlapped areas are too thick.

A few years back my dad brought his gf on a trip for her to see Brazil and see my kids. We don't have easy access to these store bought wrappers so she taught me how to make them. First time we made probably 200 dumplings

Lots of filling types (I don’t eat meat ones, so can’t help you there). Dough is super easy: equal parts flour and water by weight, knead at least 10min, let sit covered for an hour.

Home made is better in my opinion- the dough is much stretchier so it’s easier to wrap each dumpling, and you can customise the size too

Keep a spray water bottle near....used directly on wrap ..less messy and easy to fold....

I recommend a different wrapping technique for boiling, steaming, and pan frying. But generally yes, you can :)
