I completely agree: a laser leveler is a fabulous product. The problem with red is that if you want to do any outdoor work (Jeff specifically says "interior" in this video), then red is a bad choice. You cannot see it in sunshine, and you will barely see it in the shade when the sun is still up. You have to wait for dusk. The solution: get a GREEN laser. The human eye is far more sensitive to green than red, so a green line can be seen far better than a red line. Sure, it's still hard to see green in direct sun, but it CAN be seen outdoors, unlike red! I just used my green leveler today, with the sun shining bright. I "painted" a horizontal line where my deck surface is going to be, and I could see the line perfectly all day. I could not do this with my old red laser, so I sold it and am now the happy owner of a green laser. I realize Jeff makes money on this red DeWalt, which is a fine leveler, but ONLY for interior work. If you want a more versatile leveler, get a green one.

Just got this a few days ago. Occasionally we lose power in the heat of the summer here in AZ and I wanted something that would easily run my 8000btu garage window ac. Unpacked the unit, followed the quick start guide, gave it a yank and it started on the first pull. It was quieter that I expected it to be, very smooth running and ran my window ac without missing a beat. I'm sure it will have no difficulty with adding a fridge and maybe some lights. Well worth it.

I would recommend a 3 line laser level instead of this 2 line one. The 3 line will work as a plumb bob allowing you to layout on the floor and then use the level to accurately mark the ceiling. Useful if you're installing lights or trying to get a pipe straight up through a ceiling.

Hey Jeff. Just an FYI about another use of using these laser levels U had to level the soil in my backyard. 100' x 100' I tried to use a water level but instead came up with a great idea that worked awesome! I tool my laser level mounted it on side of house (height doesn't matter) I took a 2x4 next to laser level and taped my cell phone to the 2x4 where the little camera was right at the laser line. The camera is way more sensitive to this bright light even though in daylight I could not see the red line. I could now take the 2x4 around my backyard and moved the 2x4 up/down until I could see the laser line very bright on my cell phone. (Even in bright sun) the difference between the bottom of the 2x4 and the ground told me how much soil I needed to add to be level! If I had to dig out soil so 2x4 would go below soil line before I could see the laser light on my phone, that would tell me how much soil I had to remove! Brilliant idea!! I found it MUCH easier than a water level! Try it out. Perhaps do a video on it

I've had the older model of this laser level (a DW087K) for years, and it's embarrassing how long I used it before discovering it would stick to the corner bead. This revelation was a real game changer. When replacing it with a green laser, I wanted that same capability. Unfortunately, the green model (DW088CG) didn't stick during my tests. It appeared to stick at first, but over the course of 60 seconds of slid down the wall about 1/4 inch, and rotated a bit while doing so, causing both the horizontal and vertical lines to drift. The model in the video (DW088K - why don't you mention this?), song with the models I mentioned before, lack a pendulum lock. I was willing to ignore this if it stuck you the corner bead though. For DIY use, where the tool won't be transported regularly, I think the lack of a pendulum lock is not a deal breaker, but for professional use I think a pendulum lock is all but a must-have feature.

My suggestion for anyone buying a laser is get one with the green laser if you can. We used a few red ones of different brands in industrial construction and if there was any sort of light in the room you could barely see the laser. They then got us one with the green laser and wow what a difference that made. Even if the sun was beaming on the laser you could still see it clear as day. Just a personal preference. Only downside is I think the green is a bit more expensive because its a stronger laser.
