It is the action of denying one's own homosexuality that creates the pain, along with the discrimination from society. However, I don't hate Jehovah's Witnesses. I grew up in that cult and the fact is that most Jehovah's Witnesses are nice people. The real culprit here is the Governing Body. They use fear as a method of persuasion. The dad says that they don't force their beliefs on other people or judge them, and proceeds to do just that! How do they not see the hypocrisy? He goes on to judgementally spout doctrine about gay people, preaching at the girl. Incidentally, as you've pointed out they make Tess into a brat. There is not reason for her to make a point of saying "you know, life partners?", after she says her mums are proud of her.

“We don’t force our beliefs or judge” ….what a lie. When my very devout JW mom’s gay brother (her favorite brother) died of AIDS, her wonderful JW family told her it was because of his lifestyle. NOT ONE of those winners comforted my mom. She stuck with this bunch until the end of her life.

I was raised a Jehovah's Witness. I had a lot of internal stress regarding homosexuality. I'm heterosexual, but I never had a problem with gay people and I knew that the Bible's stance on it was absurd. However, because I was young and terrified of Demons, I became one of those weird apologists; I insisted I agreed with the Organisation but that we didn't hurt anyone or hate anyone. I'm so glad I'm out now and I can be friends with whoever I like and stand up and support my LGBTQ friends!! :)

Okay so a thought that popped up in my mind during this video is what would happen with a person that is bisexual, pansexual, or any other sexuality of the sort? Like would Jehovah's Witnesses try to pressure them into a relationship they consider straight even if the person likes more than one gender? I don't know if this thought is weird but it was just something I thought about..

This drama got me so fired up. I hadn’t been going to meetings for a couple years and was convinced by my mom to come to convention with her. I got into a very heated conversation with her about this drama. They just want females to be subservient and pioneer. And I’m sick of their homophobic rhetoric.

3:08 You cite one very likely reason to do that. I think another reason could be that "brothers" wouldn't want to be known across their community as "those gay guys from the video!" Even though people know it's make-believe, many people can't distinguish fiction from reality on some subliminal level and can project character's persona on the human that portrayed it. And given that JW are disgustingly homophobic, the actors wouldn't want even a hint of gay attached to them, bc of the stigma.

I would say the same for the "gang boss" in the rebutal: I've seen bosses saying things MUCH worse... Maybe Lloyd didn't work in "real financiarized business", like new-tech startups & stock exchanges's boss... Throughout this entire drama, they never showed the face of Marty, the wife's Real Estate Boss, or (assistant, whatever the hell he was) I realize now it's because she mentioned he was gay in the kitchen during that horrid "I have two mom's" scene. The same way they wouldn't show the two gay men on TV, they hid the face of the gay man. I'm assuming it's lessen their humanity, but probably more because no one wants to be dubbed as acting "the gay guys." It's all just really dramatic and sickening.

I can remember the anger I felt when I was at the convention being subjected to these videos. I was doing laps around the auditorium because my adrenaline was pumping so much. I felt like I needed to scream. I feel so lucky that my family became inactive throughout my teens, because I don’t know if I would’ve been able to wake up as young as I did without that. I can’t even imagine how that video would’ve affected me if I would’ve saw it as a child.

Even when I was a jw I thought that scene about the lesbian moms is cringe and forced
@professorkaos27817 жыл бұрын
I spoke with a JW about this issue and I said that in studies of identical twins reared apart it was approx 80-90percent likely that they would both end up gay if one was. This person would not agree to this because its much easier to believe it is a free will type decision regarding ones sexuality then having no bearing on gods creative process and the allowance of sin to enter into it. I believe that ones sexuality is a part of our basic human needs and development and if it is a more genetically influenced trait, then wouldn`t it be unfair that in order to obtain salvation they must denounce a part of their humanity. Particulary in coming of age and beyond wouldn`t that put them in a sharp disadvantage when compared to the straight population in being `saved`. The latter questions would not be considered by the JW because they were stuck on the idea that free will comes into play with ones sexuality and although it may have bearing for some, it is not the case for the vast majority.

As a lesbian, this really disturbs me for a couple of reasons. Number one, the homophobic message obviously. Number two, as somebody who might want to adopt kids someday, the fact of these people are trying to turn their children against their parents just because they are gay is pretty fucked up. I don’t know why Jehovah’s Witnesses in particular always focus on the children of gay parents like they want the child to disown their parents.
@WillieManga Жыл бұрын
Which is hypocritical considering they disown their "rebellious" kids.

I get what the JWs are trying to convey, but Tess seems like a confident, no-bullshit woman while the JW girl looks like she's afraid she's gonna get hit if she says something wrong. Me, being a member of the LGBTQ community myself, would totally blow up into the parents face as well. Maybe that's just because I'm a very 'in ya face' kind of person, but come on! And the thing with the woman turning into salt? That's an open death threat on television and no one's doing shit about it. Makes me want to throw up.
