Michael, seen that you're using a 9/16" socket, and I bought one myself based on your video, and as a trial put a 9/16" socket on a new NGK spark plug and seen that it's a slightly loose fit (but will do the job like your video shows). Another video on KZbin uses a 14 mm spark plug socket and I decided to check the fit using a new spark plug. Checked using the open end of a 14mm wrench vs the open end of a 9/16" wrench and it looks like the 14mm is much better fit for these 9th gen Accord spark plugs.

That's because the size is 14mm. 🙂

You can also use some rubber vacuum tubing to put on the top of the plug to get it out or start it by hand to avoid cross threading. Have done this for years.

A magnet tool should be able to get the loose bolts out. You do not have to remove them, but careful that they do not fall out when you remove the cover.

Nice job , but did you drop the spark plug into the hole and then tighten it down , giving the spark plug a chance to hit the sides of the hole and closing the gap on the plug ! also can cause a crack or chip on the porcelain..You should use a piece of hose to lower it into place or its proper tool..other people may watch your video and do the same ..thanks..

How do I know when it is time to change my spark plugs on my 2013 Honda Accord EX? It has about 60k miles on it but the car runs smoothly. I've heard that they should not be replaced until 100k miles, is that right?
@Sunshone73116 жыл бұрын
It is all dependent on how you drive, if you drive a lot of city or short trips you should change them earlier ~75k miles otherwise 100k. This is preventive maintenance and you should not wait until the car is not running smoothly.

I really don't but the last time I did a tune up, I called the local honda dealer and asked them, they told me, but I've slept since then. I discovered the spark plug well and the coil on the far left plug near the oil cap, had some oil in it? is that a problem? if so what do i need to do to fix it . I have 2014 accord with 100K on it
@Sunshone73118 жыл бұрын
Ashraf Sunesara a little oil is not a huge issue, but it will require you to have the cam/valve cover seal replaced at some point. If you chose to do it, make sure to use Honda OEM seals. I've never had good luck with aftermarket seals for the caM/valve cover. I would not suggest the job to a novice, because it is easy to cause a even bigger leak if done incorrectly.
@ashs86068 жыл бұрын
Michael Borquez but I don't see any oil leaks on the outside at all. the oil was found in the well some on the coil and some more on the spark plugs. do you think one needs to be more advanced understanding of machanics to replace cam/valve seals? thanks for help
@Sunshone73118 жыл бұрын
Ashraf Sunesara Correct, there is a seal around the spark plug well that is supposed to stop oil from getting in there, unfortunately it sounds like it is failing. The problem will get worse with time. The entire cover must be removed to replace the seal.

Super thankful for this. I'm poor, so I try to save money by doing simple things. Had a 1999 Honda Accord and changed plugs and wires myself. Just got a "new" used 2014 at 76,000 miles so will be doing this. I'm guessing no wires on these? Is it safe to use a can of 44K on the newer Hondas every 6 months? Thanks again!
@Sunshone73117 жыл бұрын
Cynthia Yes, don’t worry about plugs until about 100k miles. No wires either, the coils sit directly above the spark plugs. At your mileage you will need to check the serpentine belt, there are several videos on replacing it. Other than that you should be good for awhile.
@SuperAnonymoususer17 жыл бұрын
Gas mileage on the car so far (about 900 miles in)...first tank all freeway miles got just over 30 mpg. This tank now at about half tank, town driving getting low 20s mpg. I was thinking that might be old plugs and needs the 44K. Is there any other reason a "young" car doesn't get recommended mileage? Nothing seems to be wrong. I got the same mileage on my 1999 Accord and am wondering what else it could be? Thanks again:)
