Fun project, for an old friend. I don’t often work on “H” bikes, so it was nice to get the opportunity to turn wrenches on this one. Thanks for watching, as I go thru the process of assessing the stuck engine and bringing it back to life. There will be one or two follow up videos on this bike. #HondaCT70 #Trail70

I’m with ya. Most of the channels I watch on KZbin are revival type shows. There aren’t many for bikes, most concentrate on cars/trucks.

My first real bike was a 1970 blue green ct70H I bought from a Honda dealer in 1977 for $75 dollars. I still remember that day very clearly. I was 14 years old. Good times for sure.

It really runs well. After ending the video, I aired up the tires and took it for a spin…..it’s a nice little bike. Thank goodness it didn’t put up too much of a fight.

My first bike was the Honda CTH70. It was Green. My relatives had bought two brand new identical bikes. Later, my family acquired one of the bikes. Which I rode growing up. Sold it just a few years ago. The buyer was going to do a complete restoration. But it was already in decent shape. Needing little to get back in pristine condition.

Another Trail 70 has arisen from the smoke and ashes! I like the methodical way you investigate what should be the right way everything should work, identify what’s not right, and even surmise a theory as to what someone else attempted to do as a fix. Nice work as usual and typical of you Mike.

I'm currently restoring an 81 Montesa Cota 248. I wish my Dad was here to help. Even though years ago He hauled off a Bultaco 125 a CZ and an old Triumph Cub of mine to the dump. All the parts were greased, wrapped and in Boxes. I did find the CZ swingarm over the hill forty years later. I'd give up all of it for one more day with Him.

A friend of mine had a blue/green “H” as a kid… after 3 cylinder rebuilds and 14,000 miles the bike was sold and he got a SL-70. As an adult, he found another blue/green “H” on eBay, drove from SE Michigan to near Boston, Massachusetts for the “Local Pickup”. On the return trip to Michigan, his wife caught him “cranking” his neck around to look at the bike laying in the back of a Honda Accord with the rear seat folded down. She said to him… “Your about to pee your pants… aren’t you!” Thought you might like a funny Trail 70 story Mike (and followers). 🤣

Im in the process of restoring my dads old 78jr50. He got it used for his kids but the cousins messed it up back in the 90s. Bent forks and not running. Ive been using motorkote for all the bolts and nuts. And heat. Almost all have loosen with ease.

That video was right on time. I have the chance to pick up a couple of engines, a z50 and a CT70, both of which are locked. At 64 years old, I'm trying to start a "spare parts collection," and so far only have a running z50 engine. Great video, Mike. Thanks.

Love that Thrush muffler sticker. I remember back in the 70's that same sticker was on almost everything! I even had one on my old banana bike! I learn so much watching all the things you do and check to get them running again. Excellent video!

Yep. I’m gonna guess this one was slapped on it late 70’s or maybe very early 80’s. We got our drivers license in 81, so it was probably parked then.

You can get a key by using the numbers on the switch or helmet lock. 10 or 15 bucks online
@MiniBikeMike
@MiniBikeMike 8 ай бұрын
I done that a few times in the past. I wonder if the keys are getting scarce, no one had a matching key blank for the last couple I tried. I purchased a bunch of repop K0 switches in bulk and got them for about as much as a key would cost.

Not sure this would be the right way to ask you but I have been working on a Honda CT70 motor and there are 4 wires coming from the stator black, red, blue and gray I know the black is for spark but I don't know witch one of the others are for lights or if it is a 6v or 12v system any help would be much appreciated.
@MiniBikeMike
@MiniBikeMike 2 ай бұрын
If it’s a 1982 or older engine, it should be 6v. The newer bikes, from the 90’s were 12v. If it has four wires, the black is for spark. There should be a green/red wire for neutral indicator. The remaining two wires are for lighting/charging.

Curiosity, you use ethanol free gas in the old 50s and 70s? Im sure with those lifans it doesnt really matter either way

No, I’ve never used ethanol free fuel.
@donsoule6411

The CT70 K0 Owner’s Manual, Fuel Note, says to use “Premium grade fuel…”. Back in the day (1970s) when those bikes were sold, the fuel was leaded. I’ve always added ‘Lead Substitute’ to 91 octane or higher unleaded for my originally owned, Candy Gold, K0 (4/70). Without the leaded fuel the intake valves suffer prematurely and lose of compression due to the lack of lubricity with unleaded fuel. The engines designed to be fueled with unleaded have valves and valve seats able to “hold up” to the lack of lead lubricity.
