Just took my 23 tlx-s to the dealership because of a fluid leak. They have to replace the transfer case because of a bad seal. 9000 miles! At least they gave me a 24 Integra Aspec as a loaner, so I ain't too mad.

Because the new prelude is basically a hybrid, cvt, civic coupe... the 1.5 issue (s), and now this.... Toyota is looking even better. Yeah, i said it. I'm headed to Toyota.

The new prelude might be one of the least interesting somewhat affordable 2 door cars to come out in recent years. How many people would even still want a FWD coupe in this day and age, let alone one that's powered by an economy focused hybrid powertrain that doesn't have an exciting, rev happy engine and doesn't have a traditional multi speed transmission? The Miata/MX-5, GR86 and BRZ are way more appealing cars in this category.

Owned both Nissan 2017 Frontier Pro-4x from new and a new 2024 Pilot trailsport. The frontier was the most reliable trouble free midsize truck I could ask for after 60 k miles. The Pilot has an outstanding recall on the fuel tank connection and left me stranded twice with electrical/battery issues at 5 k miles. IMHO both companies do some things really well, but the Nissan inspired more confidence so far. I’m all for a merger. That way Nissan doesn’t disappear.

@@BCautosutions as far as I could surmise the battery was defective. We had a cold snap and it stressed the battery to the point of a no start. Got a boost from Honda Roadside Assistance, then drove it for about 45 min. The charging system seemed to charge the battery enough that when I dropped it off at the dealership for evaluation all systems checked out “absolutely fine”. Several days later the battery was dead again, and I called Roadside Assistance once again, this time they flat bedded the Pilot to the dealership and they ended up replacing the battery. So far so good, but I will keep an eye on parasitic draw and its effect on the battery. By the way, the Auto start stop consistently gave me a “charging” message prior to issue, which I passed along to the service tech. Not sure if related or not, but an observation. Have a great 2025 and keep up the great work, I value your experience and opinions.

Nissan’s big FWD cars like Pathfinder, QX60, and Murano have a transmission that’s outsourced from ZF. It’s basically the same transmission that Honda used in the late 2010s. The ZF9 did not help Honda’s reputation for automatic transmission vehicles, so they had to phase that out with an in-house transmission. If Nissan and Infiniti end up under the same parent as Honda, they should replace the ZF9 with the Honda 10AT, and because they will be under the same parent company, Honda’s 10AT would be considered as in-house for Nissan too.

My thoughts BC, it is what it is. And make no mistake the Japanese Gov't deeply involved in this decision. They did not want Nissan to fail and who knows what incentives Honda may have gotten. I agree infrastructure and some EV tech the most gained from Nissan. Still imo, Nissan gains more from Honda than vice versa, but together with economies of scale perhaps they all 'may' benefit. Time will tell. Lastly, when I mentioned needing to do a flush, I meant power steering, not sure if I made that clear. Happy New Year!

Thanks for answering this. I can see where you’re coming from. I think if this goes through Honda needs to do the following: 1. Sack every last Nissan executive period so they won’t have any influence going forward on Honda’s decisions. 2. Go through all the current brands and marquees and models and get rid of anything redundant. I don’t see Infiniti remaining after this if Honda doubles down on the Acura brand. 3. Bring back the Datsun brand and use that as a way to get into the commercial trucking sector like with Toyota and Hino. 4. Turn Mitsubishi into the sportier marquee designed to compete with the likes of Mazda. 5. Keep Nissan separate as the budget brand and remove all those Jatco CVT transmissions. Put base Honda transmissions and engines and rebadge them as new Nissan engines and tune them for those products. 6. In general, refresh the Honda Ridgeline and seriously update the Nissan Leaf if Honda plans to keep that around. I think that’s the way they could make this work. Take inspiration from how Toyota handles Subaru and Mazda and keeps the different brands distinct while putting Honda technology across the board in different ways, removing all the junk etc.

I believe this integration, merger, whatever you want to call it has a lot to do with China and being able to compete in that market. Especially in EV development. China EV manufacturers are taking a huge bite out of other car manufacturers market share in the world’s biggest market which is China. Even Tesla is feeling the pinch in China and Tesla has a Gigafactory over there. Chinese EV startups are churning out EVs faster and relatively more affordable and with more tech than other global manufacturers in China. I believe this alliance in part is based on competition and also so China doesn’t get its hands on a struggling Nissan. I think that’s the short term plan. Only time will tell what it means for the North American market

The head of Honda can’t even explain the reasoning behind the merger. Showing that the merger makes no sense. They are two entry level brands with upper echelon luxury brands. And the. There is Mitsubishi. How this merger is going g to work is beyond me as both will be stepping on each other’s toes. It’s a perception thing with Nissan along with quality issues. If they can get don financial help away from this merger, they should use this to fix the JATCO CVT problems, along with their VC engine issues and other niggling issues along with their rip off dealers, they can come back from the brink.

I have owned Hondas for 20 years and my children have purchased Honda vehicles. They used to be a quality vehicle. No longer. My current Honda will be my last. My dealership recommended that I put in a claim for yet another expensive repair due to faulty parts. A Timing Chain for $3,000.00 at 170,000 km (105,000 miles). Honda denied my claim without hesitation. My previous vehicle needed a new transmission at about the same mileage mark. I have always kept maintenance up to date at the dealership. I didn’t mind paying a higher price for a quality vehicle, however, current prices and lower quality vehicles have resulted in another lost customer for Honda. I doubt they care. There are better quality vehicles out there at a much more reasonable price. Goodbye Honda.
