I've had a 2017 rebel 500 since it was first released. Though i am for sure ready for a bigger/more powerful bike and have been for a while it just hasn't been that attractive to me financially since i still have no desire whatsoever to sell the rebel. I did a cross country trip from Vic to Qld in Aus on it. 8 hrs a day and it was fine for comfort for me at 5.11. Think you hit the nail on the head of it being a perfect allrounder for anyone who loves the style and is newly into bikes. It's not that quick but it is punchy enough that it hasn't gotten boring either. I have a short vid of a spirited run thru the local hills if anyone is interested in seeing how it goes in the twisties.

That’s good info. Thanks. I feel like I’ll eventually end up with a small cruiser when I gain enough experience to use/cope with it properly and it’s good to hear from non US channels which seem to regard anything smaller than 1000cc as small bikes. Anyway, ride free and safe. I’m looking forward to get the chance to experience bikes for the first time in several decades as I’ve not ridden since I got married😂.

I thought I had ridden my last bike when I sold my Triumph, but a couple of months ago I bought a 2017 Rebel. My prostate cancer has returned, and with my spine and hip getting occasional pain, I needed something low and light. So far, the Rebel is fantastic around the suburbs and short rides through the hills. It seems there are a few pretentious riders who look down on other bikes. But as the wise man said, the best bike is the one you enjoy riding. Edit. The bike came with a different tail light and indicators, upgraded seat and Diablo twin pipe. But for me, the one mod that I like best is the engine fairing. It fills in the gap between the motor and the front wheel.

Really nice to see a real world review of Hondas. Some of the bigger channels have a real downer on Honda - and I think it’s because their so competent that they regard them as boring. I’ve owned three Honda cars and they were just fearsomely efficient and good at always they did. Yes the type R was amazing but it was bullet proof and I loved it but with 3 kids the wife wasn’t happy. Anyway to the point. Hopefully I’m going to be a new rider in the new year which means I’m looking around for when/if(!) I pass my A2! This looks like something I could ride when I get some experience as a very experienced road user but someone who eventually will need to move on to a bike I can cope with (I’m not tall!). Will be great to see a comparison of the Rebel 500 and the new RE Super Meteor!
@lancerbiker52632 жыл бұрын
Good "looking" bike. Adding a back rack seems like an afterthought to make it somewhat practical. Rev counters are nice to look at but rev limiters seem to be replacing them, unfortunately . (A microchip is cheaper) Seating position looks unlike a typical cruiser. Not sure it would be comfortable on long cruise. A niche bike for sure. Love your channel, keep up the good work !( PS Love the sound of a gas engine in a tunnel. )

Yes I wouldn’t want to ride for more than an hour on it really. Thanks buddy, can’t beat the sound of an engine through a tunnel!

A real shame they didn’t upgrade the brakes this year along with the other 3 bikes in Honda’s 500 stable. Looks aside, which bike did you prefer between this and the interceptor 650? Tossing up between both
@MrDarcy-OlMan2 жыл бұрын
I’d choose the interceptor, I think it has more soul than the rebel. The rebel is still great though.

Maybe for the taller rider who wants to retain the HP ...economy....purchase price , but without the leg cramp, then a set of forward control may be the answer?.....

Thorough review -as always -trivia question - in the opening scenes in the tunnel underpass what camera did you use ? A panasonic maybe? Thanks in advance
@MrDarcy-OlMan2 жыл бұрын
I used my new Sony zv-e10 for all talking and riding shots which is also fitted with the Sony 35mm f1.8 lens. And then my go pro hero 9 for pov shots.
@ablowick2 жыл бұрын
@@MrDarcy-OlMan so you've probably noticed on the rocker cover of the Honda there's some noticeable focus pulsing , which is very characteristic of the Panasonic depth by defocus contrast based autofocus whereas the Sony with its phase detect autofocus should not be doing that . Weird !
@MrDarcy-OlMan2 жыл бұрын
@@ablowick yes I did notice. Need to tweak some settings I think. First time using the camera so just getting used to it at the moment.

Great review as always! I’ve been considering this as my first bike, whenever I manage to get the A2 license. You recently reviewed the RE Meteor 350, which is cheaper but less powerful. Out of these two, which one would you recommend?
@MrDarcy-OlMan2 жыл бұрын
The royal Enfield was fantastic however I found it too underpowered personally. The Honda would be more fun in the long run.
@michaelruatfelaralte842 жыл бұрын
Not being rude, the rebel looks odd in person. Enfield will be launching the 650 cruiser soon, I think you should wait for it.. bit more expensive then Interceptor but the same power train 47bhp, 52NM...but I am pretty sure it will still be much cheaper than Rebel
@shardlake2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelruatfelaralte84 The current Interceptor is already more expensive than the Rebel, not going to be cheaper, will it look better, very subjective.
@michaelruatfelaralte842 жыл бұрын
@@shardlake really? I Didnt know that. Since I am from India I am assuming it. Here Rebel is almost twice the price of Interceptor. Here its about $3400 and rebel is around $6000
@shardlake2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelruatfelaralte84 Sadly Royal Enfield prices are good but much higher outside of India Interceptor is over £6k in England with the Rebel just over 5.8k,.

If you lean it like a sports bike, does it hit the foot pegs ? My only concern !
@MrDarcy-OlMan2 жыл бұрын
It probably would if you really leaned it, but it’s not a sports bike and it’s not for leaning heavily into the corners. If it’s ridden like it’s supposed to you won’t scrap the corners, it has good lean for a cruiser.

The rack spoils the lines. This bike could do with a sissy bar. To get an idea of the size, are you a 34'' inside leg? I am a 32'' so would fit nicely, I guess. It is the 1100 DCT that I am interested in. Good review, Mr Darcy.
