Acura teased too little, got everyone’s imagination going, and then delivered a facelifted Civic hatch. If they told us civic-based turbo 6speed hatch from the start, maybe there wouldn’t be the backlash. For me, it’s not the specs that are the issue. It’s that it (and the Civic hatch it’s heavily based on) looks less like ALL the previous Integras (3, 4 & 5 door versions) and more like a Honda Crosstour. I recognize the business case for a 5 door sport back, but that doesn’t mean it has to look like a crossover SUV. Look at the Audi A5 & A7 - those are 5 door sport backs that still look sporty! And also, I found it a bit insulting that they tried to tie it to the old Integras with just a paint color (that’s not even the correct yellow) and having the name stamped into the bumpers (a detail no one can see from a distance). It’s very clearly a badge engineering exercise, and they didn’t have the guts to put the effort into the Integra nameplate they once did, and that it deserves. Oh, and a lot of people still don’t like the looks of the current Civic Type-R. Great car (like I’m sure the new Integra will be), but it’s not a beautiful car.

probably cause the ILX is actually an integra without the name. Integra was always the entry level model, it wasn't a special model in Acura. Integra never left, it just got renamed to RDX then ILX. Ive been sharing this around, but people are hasty and wrong about the new Integra, here's why: Right away, we have no specs, show some patients. Everyone seems to forget the Integra was ALWAYS just a better Civic. The 11th gen Civic, on which it's based, is already being lauded for its chassis, dynamics, and capabilities. And the new Integra will be a serious enhancement of those proven characteristics. Many wanted a Civic Si hatch, if you're one of them, congratulations you got your wish. If you also wanted an automatic Si, congratulations to you as well. What could make or break this car in base trim is the automatic transmission though. If they keep the DCT from the ILX then excellent, if they bring over the CVT from the Civic hatch, that will be a shame. Styling wise, it's trying to be all things to all people, which isn't a bad thing. People also forget the original Integra was a 5 door. But this brings that liftback style hatch that made the Integra famous as well as practical, it's got four doors for the fast four door crowd (me), and it's got coupe lines for the coupe crowd. If you think it's too tame in the looks department, just picture it as a Type-S. Civic hatch is shaping up to be a really great looking Type-R. TLX made an absolutely sensational looking Type-S. Expect a similar transformation for the Integra Type-S. Speaking of, we know nothing about it. They're gonna gun for the S3, Golf R, A35, and 2 series to an extent. That's a reason to expect SH-AWD paired to the 2.0T that's already in the Acura lineup. A lot of potential in that for sure. So at least hold off for that.

Hey HPJ, your points are very valid in the video here. So I am fully aware of what you are trying to portray here, and yes, they are fair and good points. The point we are saying here, as the enthusiasts, is this: The Integra is an icon, a sportscar icon. I see how you want to compare it with the FK8, but here in Europe weve always had the civic Type R, and also, its stayed true to its shape, to such a degree that the wild styling was what made most people hate it, shun it, talk the shit, making the memes. On the Integra, I feel its the complete opposite way. You are 2000% correct with how we would have reacted on the news of a 6 speed, turbocharged hatchback Integra, because we would be fantasizing about its looks and design (mind us ALL that that fan rendering COMPLETELY screwed Acura and Honda over as it came in the EXACT time of the news and made SO many of the fans fall completely in love with a fan-render to such an extent that its what EVERYONE wanted the new Integra to be). The DC2 is a hatchback, the DC5 is also, a hatchback, so that is what we were lookin to see styling wise. There is no denying the very simple fact, that they have taken, an historic name, with racing pedigree, and much love centered around it, to simply replace the ILX as an entry level as you yourself also say here in the video. And yes ofcourse, its perfectly fine that it is Acuras Entry Level car, but it is not okay, to let the history of the Integra, get its butt whopped by such a poor, lazy, dull and (I dont quite understand how you see it as that but) "aggressive" styling. There is nothing aggressive about it, the only good shots of the car are in the most basic of angles that makes almost any car look cool. Give it its side profile, and its simply unattractive. Will higher trim levels be more stylish? Yes ofcourse, will the Type S be somewhat of a great performance vehicle for Acura, no doubt, but it is not, for the enthusiast, something Acura hit the mark on. And thats okay for us to think, and I am very sure, when I get in and sit in one at a dealer here in Europe, if we even get it here in Portugal (probably not going to be Honda badged I fear) that I will not be left impressed in the same way as when I tried the FK2 turbocharged and FK8 when they came. They never claimed to be bringing anything back, they were a natural progression of the models we have gotten in a fair amount of intervals, but the Integra, has been gone for years and years. Its the pinnacle of Honda motor-racing history besides F1, and won everything it entered. I dont believe for a SECOND, that this Integra will ever do the same, nor will Honda prioritize that. And that is what upsets us, the enthusiasts, thats what we find confusing, and that is what makes us uncertain if the value of the Integras WE own, increase or not. Lastly its what scares the collectors from adding to their garages, as it simply isnt seeming to be worth it. It wont even get a Type R treatment from what we hear, just a Type S, which an Integra never came as...only the Acura RSX did so, and to me thats not good enough. But thats just my two cents on it, whoever agrees may add in the comment or like this one, cause if they frikkin read this far, theyre as passionate about it as I was writing it. All the best HPJ!

This is purely on looks. There is no imagination NOTHING special about it. The past 10 years all car companies have dropped the ball on design. Acura with exception to the NSX has also sucked. I super hate the oversized badging and boring styling. I also hate the "let's make every car look the same". The Civic Type R still hasn't grown on me with exception to the performance. That all being said, there are elements I like on the new Integra. I like the roof line, headlights and hatch. The dislike pile, four doors, the rounded trunk area is gross, the grill and the graphics on the side. Lastly I think this video is highly defensive and biased regardless of not being paid.

Its true. People hated the FK8 when it came out. People hated the 4th gen, and 5th gen Prelude when it came out. People hated the NSX when the 2nd gen came out. People also hated the bug eye Impreza, 350Z, and DC5 RSX and even the TSX when it came out. They all grew on everyone. They just needed to see it in person, drive it, and get used to it more. The new integra took the hate off the new BMW grills. Which I noticed people are saying its growing on them, and looks better in person. There are 3 things I hate about the Integra, and 2 of them wont make it into production. The side decals.... The yellow exhaust tips... And the way the rear bumper contours inward on the sides. The front.. Well.. They could clean that up a bit, but I am sure the Type S will get better bumpers anyway. I was thinking about this car... Since I have an 05 A-Spec TSX 6 speed, with a Euro R LSD trans in it, with other mods. I still love the car, so I dont know.. We will see what this new integra brings. I already know it has potential.

While it doesn't resemble the Integras of old, neither does literally any of Honda's current line up, nor does any car from any other manufacturer. As the years go on and on, cars have to change. Like mentioned here, the FK8 was met with a lukewarm welcome but I can personally attest, it's an amazing car. You're right, it doesn't rev as high as my RSX Type S, but it doesn't need to. Honda has adapted new technology to old names, and has given us what we have and that's how it's going to be. Honda discontinued the Civic and Accord coupes because they didn't sell enough to warrant developing new ones for the 10G Accord and 11G Civic. What makes any of you think Acura would forgo that and develop a coupe Integra, other than that's what enthusiasts want? Trust me when I say this: There are not nearly enough enthusiasts out there who are in a position to buy a car, to justify making a coupe Integra, especially considering how low the sales figures were for the Accord and Civic coupes. Just because you and 40 of your buddies want a two-door Integra doesn't mean you speak for the "entire" enthusiast population. And before you bring up the BRZ, Miata, Mustang, etc as cases where a coupe sells, I'll stop you right there. Those are also low-volume cars that the manufacturers keep around because they build interest. Also, they're RWD, which is a completely different niche than a small FWD econobox in a pretty dress. Safety and emissions regulations mean the cars need to get bigger and have smaller turbo engines. The 10G/11G Civics do just fine on performance with some modifications, and they take to tuning quite well. $600-1000 and you have a 250whp 1.5L in a 2800lb car and you still get 40+MPG, which is something the old N/A K series required a few thousand dollars to do. It may not have the soul of the old VTEC Ks/Bs, but they make more power, more easily, and return excellent efficiency. This is the future, and being stubborn pricks to a company because they didn't build the same thing they made 20 years ago is just stupid. Companies have to move on and adapt, and with current rules and regulations, they literally cannot build the cars that made them famous just decades ago. Bringing an old Integra up to today's manufacturer standards would net you, well... This concept. Stop waxing nostalgic, if you want an old Integra, buy an old Integra. If you're going to complain about how much has changed, you need to realize that a new Civic is the same size or slightly larger than the Accord used to be, and the Accord is now massive in comparison. Complain about that, not a company we all know and love bringing back a dead name. Ford did it with a small truck based on the Escape/EcoSport. I don't hear the crying about that.

Amen I couldn't said it better myself. I'm so sick of people being stuck in the past. Even if they made a coupe or made it resembled past integras they still would complain about something. Let's be real. The GR86/BRZ still would be a better choice over what a modern 3 door liftback Integra would have been. Even the Civic Si coupe couldn't handle that comparison and now it's gone. As a 12-year-RSX-S owner married to my 4-year-BRZ-driving wife, both of us aren't fans of SUVs and so I'm looking forward to a 5 door liftback Integra to round out our family car lineup (we are keeping the RSX and BRZ). Both of us were happy to hear it will have a 6MT with LSD. The overall styling was a bit of a letdown, mostly the bottom half of the front bumper (was hoping it would look more like the Type S Concept) and the way the headlights from the front view look like the previous gen TLX. Hopefully those things will look better with the actual production version or when the mid cycle refresh comes around. The final things I am hoping for are either optional SH-AWD and/or double wishbone front suspension.

Major reason it's disappointing look at all current base new Acura products use the detuned k20c outta Type R. So why would you not start with that for a enthusiast model? It's gonna be 30k regardless so least give it what a accord has. That was the whole point of integras back in day was engine was a major improvement single cam D series vs dual cam B series. Honestly, I'm fine how it looks, sure, i expected coupe with the wing, but this isn't exactly the level of BMW level of horrifying. It won't be my favourite (my favourite always is and always will be the FD2 Type R), but it doesn't look bad in any way.

When the reveal gives out info that duplicates the current Civic, it's hard to expect people to say WOW! HPJ: it's not different enough, it looks like a slightly bloated Civic. Why not just buy an Si or a Type R? What is this car (based on what we now know) going to give you? I hope I'm wrong but when I think Integra, I see a coupe with a screaming VTEC non turbo engine for starters, not another 4 door sedan with a 1.5 liter turbo that's already available at your Honda dealer in several flavors.

The idea isn't bad, it's just the design of it. Looks like the accord crosstour/ZDX (neither of which sold well...) The roof line is too round and high towards the rear. The trunk line is non existent. The front bumper not having paint below the center grille and the fog grilles being connected throws off the look of the whole front end. The hood line should've come down towards the front as well, it just looks too flat

Jason- this is simple. The Integra was always based off the Civic but it always had its own design identity and styling inside and out. This is a low budget badge engineering job like GM did in the 80’s, no dice.

Thanks for making this video. I did my "going off" on the Acura video comments. I have massive respect for and I honestly value your opinion. I love your civic mods and you really helped me see the character of the platform and the brand. I really feel it's about timing and expectations. Normally a new car follows it's predecessor. So there is no grand build up of stated expectations. When they had 15yrs for people to voice their opinion that they want a coupe and the Civic coupe disappeared with the Accord coupe. It left the perfect window for the Integra to be the fwd coupe in the lineup. If they had done it what would be the fallout? All the people that want 4 doors get Civic, accord, Civic typeR, all the SUVs on and on. We want a lightweight fun coupe. I agree with you. People will come to love it. That's what Hondas do. I just hope we've been heard now. Sporty lightweight coupe. Miata is a good example. Not something different, just better of the same. Anyways, thanks again. You keep my hopes up. I'm glad to be in the know!

people tend to forget Acura is Honda, Just look at any parts bag you get from an Acura parts department. People also tend to forget cost of manufacturing and how the manufacturer nowadays has to be as cost effective as possible. Also if people would take the time to understand what a global chassis is they may understand why models share similarities, if you get down to it a MDX is a Pilot, A TLX is a Accord, Integra is a Civic, just like the ILX was to in its years. other manufacturers do the same thing but no ones questions it.

1 it should have been a coupe 2 it should look different to a Civic or Accord 3 it should have a similarity to the old Integra to show lineage 4 it should be compact drivers car not a family take everything and the kitchen sink design. I said it years ago. Honda/Acura needs to have their car design team and marketing team in Europe by Europeans. Honda needs their design language overhauled Honda needs to have their naming system overhauled Hyundai did it Kia did it Others did it Now look at how much better their cars look, how much more organised their model names are and how the car closely matches the target market. Needless to say, this was a disappointment to the fans, a stain on the name plate and a missed opportunity for Honda.

I think you’ll most likely be right about how many people’s opinions will change on the Integra over time. As a previous owner of a 1990 4 door Integra and 2000 Integra GSR coupe, I was disappointed when I first saw the styling of the new prototype. Just days later, I’m a bit more open minded. This new Integra will probably look better in person than in 2D on a screen and I personally think it will look better in other colors. This bright yellow is somewhat of a polarizing choice. Not all vehicles look good in yellow. I’m hoping Acura will release more photos soon in other colors. 2 things to be excited about on this: Honda VTEC and 6 speed manual. #savethemanuals

My 2 cents. With electric cars taking over and turbo charged engines will even start being replaced by hybrid engines, we are going to look back and say that Nissan was the only Manufacturer that had the PRIDE to give us one last true passion car before the END OF AN ERA. What did Acura do? Rebadge a civic. What did Mitsubishi do? Nothing. What did Subaru do? Make the WRX boring (i'll give them credit for the brz/gr86). What did Toyota do? Pay someone else to do it. No one took a risk and it's sad. The people that grew up loving these cars now have money that they want to spend on something that makes them feel nostalgic, this could have been a HUGE opportunity for Honda/Acura. Also i'm sick of hearing people say that the Integra was always a civic. Show me an integra that looks like a civic besides this one. What a BULL excuse.

I was bummed when VW discontinued the 3dr hatch GTI in the states; it signaled the beginning of the end. Then, I was let down by Honda with the TypeR; it wasn't a coupe. I was let down when Honda discontinued the coupe for the Civics, too. I was really bummed when issues with my '18 Si coupe started cropping up. (yearned for the 8th gen Civic build quality) I figured this would be a 4dr Integra, so I was prepared for the let-down. The car looks good. On a positive note, it gives us an option over what seems to be an over-priced Si, and I'm certain the new interior will blow me away, as in the TLX Type S. With a $28,000 Si, now the Mazda3 hatch Premium 6sp looks like a better value. Instant throttle response and leather seats. Hmm, no IR-suspension, though. Regarding turbos, they're nice on a 2.5 and up; but a 1.8l turbo just doesn't have any torque until the turbo kicks in. It was a pain waiting for boost, and then a lack of acceleration when it finally kicked in.

It’s exactly what I thought it would be. The fact they stopped the civic coupe all but guaranteed what we where going to get in the integra. A more upscale civic si. Unfortunately this always happens with the Honda brand. People hated the 6th hens when they came out. Japan hated the bug eyes when they came out( and changed it). their design usually doesn’t translate effectively until later on.

I couldn’t agree more. I panned the hell out of this Acura at its unveiling but after a month or two I asked why? I think the bold (and imo awesome) styling of the Z and bronco (old nameplates brought into the modern era) really made the Acura seem stale. But it is still a very attractive car and fits really well as an entry level Acura sharing the same high end design cues from the rest of the brand at a more attractive price. I won’t pass final judgement until I get behind the wheel of one but the car has definitely grown on me and it may just end up in my garage when it’s released!

Don't take it personally, if people do not like a car that Honda/Acura brings out. And this video doesn't make me change my mind, dude. At all. I hate what I see. So I give my opinion about it. I'm just as big a HONDA enthusiast as you are, and you know that. If it was a cool car, I would have said that just as much!!! I would have praised it, just as you did. But this car, as I now have seen it, I just can't like it. I see it as not being worthy of carrying the Integra badge. Just like the newest generation Jazz... horrible to see. The Crosstar is a bit better, but in my opinion, they ruined that car, too. When I'm happy and excited, you'll hear it. Or read about it. When I'm not... yeah, then too. I rather be honest and stay true to myself than put up a mask and lie that I'm digging it. I'm not.

I can not agree - the Civic is no comparison and I would not mind if the new "Integra" was a Civic. BUT: I was saving for the new Integra for two years now. Looking at the Camaro, looking at the GT86, the new Nissan Z or the very interesting Lexus RC F and we could even talk about the stuff from Audi, VW and BMW. All of those brands gave us exiting coupes, not for the masses but for the car guys, the "weekend track racers" and every enthusiast out there. You can look all over the internet - all of the mentioned cards are respected in their own rights and they are selling - there is no argument for "coupes dont sell, we need those daddy cars with a bit of sportiness"... So is the rage all over the internet really a surprise? NO! Why? Because 1000s of us were expressing our wishes for a new Integra for years now and we even had a concept car that wasnt even so much "concept" where everyone was agreeing like "this is it" (I am talking about the Integra from Jordan Rubinstein-Towler). So for me - Honda/Acura is giving a shit about me - a long time Honda driver that started with a Jazz and a EP3 and ended up with a DC5. And after the new NSX catastrophe Honda still did not do their homework.... Is the new NSX a bad car? No! But is the new NSX a car for us Honda guys? No! And guess what - its not the price..... And last but not least - a 1.5 liter machine? WTF? No wonder it needs a turbo. KEKW Even for Honda thats a joke - guys here in Europe would laugh about such toys.

My only question is how come during the reveal of the Integra . How come all they showed was all the 2 doors and no 4 doors .. I'm wondering is the reveal is a set up for them to wow us with a 2 door when they finally show us the actual car. As this is just a prototype so maybe there are different versions of it and maybe the type S is a 2.0 turbo 2 door .. then people will be like Damn yes .. lol 😆

I bought the FK8 civic type R the moment I was able to and to this day still get excited when I see another one on the road. The ILX didn’t do well enough to stay alive when it was around and this thing is almost the exact same thing in appearance just with a manual. The FK8 had a new motor and over 300hp in a superb handling body which gave it record setting FWD Performance to back it up. that was the determining factor that swayed people. There is nothing special about this car is it’s a mash up of other boring cars. It’s like they didn’t even try.

Overall its dissapointing and thats my honest opinion. Jason keep in mind that in the rest of the world there is no acura / honda non-sense, its all Honda. And yes for Honda the entry car is the Civic and the Honda Integra should be above that, yet its not even comparable to the FK8 (wich i personally liked right away)

Truth here, everyone will eventually come around to it when they realize that the 1.5t is the base power train (which paired with a 6MT is a _great_ place to start, I love my 10th gen Si more and more every day). Styling will eventually grow on everyone as well after they see other colors and some tasteful light appearance mods. It's hard to feel really inspired/moved by a base model. Seems like a lot of people have beer with the marketing/name choice. The interwebs would have said "the ILX is finally worth paying attention to" if Acura had gone in that direction instead. But Acura tool a chance, and you are absolutely right that people will warm up to it if Acura walks the walk on truly being committed to performance--not just trying to make $$$ on the nostalgia of the name. So when will those brembos be on the production car?
