She literally put out a very personal and overall amazing song as a lead single, Pills n Potions, and yet Anaconda, the second single became not only the hit of the album, but among her biggest and most iconic singles. This happens for so many of her songs, she has so many well-written personal and deep songs, and yet people act like they don't exist.

Rapping about the same thing is a bigger issue in female rap because it doesn’t mirror their real lives. Rapping about how your a bad bitch and men are your plaything then getting constantly put down by and mistreated by men is jarring. Notice also that male rappers seem way more tight lipped about their disagreements these days, female rappers constantly seem to want to put each other down and be validated by their male counterparts.
@jonispringer11 ай бұрын
That’s true but don’t say only for woman. Men also make other men down in rap and objectify woman as their "toys" It’s not a female rap problem but a general rap music problem
@JD-fz3hy11 ай бұрын
@@jonispringerYou didn’t read my comment. It states that men do objectify women and that they have beef. The issue is that the image that female rappers portray in their music does not match the selves in their personal lives. Additionally it’s just odd that female rappers are aware of things like what happened to Meg and Cassie but never use their music to speak on it. Men objectify too, but they practice what they preach (for worse of course). Men have beef but as we saw with Tory Lanes they are more than willing to close ranks. Female rappers rarely band together, most of them watched Meg fall and hid.

It is all about selling sexuality when it comes to female artists. The days of Roxanne Shante and MC Lyte is over. There is one musical genre, is about respect to women and that is Metal. But when I'm talking about 2010 it's because multiple genres like trance, Italodance, hands up that Cascada popularised in mid-2000s, Europop, jumpstyle, techno, electro house all completely ran out of completely unique or outstanding ideas, and even outside of multiple genres of electronic music, rock music in general ran out of ideas once the 2010s started and thus all of that completely died off as a result.

I was just the other day listening UNITY by Queen Latifah and get really sad. 90's were such a nice vibe regarding feminist. Now it seems almost childish, but it's not like we've got a lot better. In any case, as you said, the problem is not the hypersexualization itself, but the lack of alternatives to it. Men can be whatever they want, woman have to be hot and sexy first.

Personally, I believe the problem doesn’t lie with the female rappers but with the demand by public. There are several female rappers who are not rapping about sex yet they are paid dust and there are mediocre female rappers rapping about sex and are praised. There are also main stream rappers like Nicki who is versatile in the sense that they rap sex and other topics yet the sex songs are what tops the charts. Music is a business and they are going to do what sells, pop is no different to be honest. Do I prefer the sex songs? Nah, I will not deny that there is a demand and they are filling that demand.

I'm glad somebody finally said it. Some of the stuff she has put out would have never been praised the way it is, had it been released by another artist. Anaconda can beat SFG but SFG could never beat Anaconda. And the fact that her new album seems heavily catered towards tiktok definitely doesn't help, like with the song "Are you gone already". Or that Barbie song she didd with Ice Spice. The way those songs were mixed weren't pleasing to me.

I feel like the stans are to blame. They make it seem as if selling is the biggest priority of an artist. Cardi and nicki have proved that they can sell and they don't need to break any more records. I would like them to release something more challenging other than songs like super freaky girl. I believe they would like it too. But if that wasn't consumed by people, they would be called flops and compared to each other... they get so much pressure from the stans that they have to live up to a certain standard of sales. Besides that, some female rapers use that because they know it will sell like nicki taking random shots at Megan... why not stop with the tiring beef and produce something original?

I think Salt N' Pepa started the whole "Sex sells" image with female rappers back in the early '90s with their "Very Necessary" era, along with Patra. After that came Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Trina, etc. As far as female rap today, I don't find anything wrong with the hypersexuality today. Male rappers have those that are hypersexual as well and others who show more versatility, same with Female MCs. Their is also Kamiyah, Rapsody, Chika, Lady London, Young MA etc. who had a little success but aren't huge yet because their not getting the support their male counterparts are.

What could be inferred is that maybe America is no longer able to maintain focus due to so many distractions and consumerism and maybe collectively we re not seeking truth or critical mindedness. Maybe the audience and clearlymusic execs do not have a baseline on what quality music is. And currently is only prioritizing financial returns over art and creativity. Yes we can have modes of various music genres and subject matter but when we allow music without substance to rise over music with substance or at least not have a balance between the two its not a good outlook. Female rappers today I think, are afraid of being their "true selves" or less sexualized, because they know what "makes money" in this world. Sad as it is. And I have no problem with seeing the female body, I'm a woman & I like woman. So that's not the main issue, for me. It's the fact they don't do ANYTHING but show or show off their bodies. When they don't have to & shouldn't feel they need to. Not to mention how that effects young girls... when ALL their fave female rappers are looking & talking about the same things. So YES. It's an issue. At this point.

Missy is actually an interesting conversation because while her physical presentation is non-sexual her lyrics are often hyper-sexual promoting female pleasure. Songs about sex for women. check out Sampa the Great if you're into "female rap" and want different lyrical content, she's a Lauryn Hill seed. oh and Little Simz! I'm trying to decide if I should include M.I.A. who's not an mc in the same way but a great creator of socio-polical hip hop. the more we support women rapping about spirituality and culture and social issues the more we will get to hear it.

Definitely agree. I grew up on Missy, Lauryn, Aaliyah (though also controversial cause of R), and comparably, much like the male rappers who only talk about cars, money, and ho** today, female rappers all talk about how wet they are, which It's fine from an empowerment standpoint. But when everyone's talking about doing it it's more trendy than empowering. Much like if people ask if I don't like rap, because I don't like contemporary music, I say no I just don't like rap that talks about nothing. I grew up on rap of my era (Millennial) & the 80's from my sisters, like Salt & Pep, Kim, etc, & I know they can do so much better than what they are giving. But industry & people clearly still wants mindless flex & wet music.

I don’t agree with this video the Female Rappers you mentioned in this video don’t only talk sex especially Nicki and Megan. When female rappers discuss more topics outside sex it’s not that discussed nor is it super successful. When Megan did cobra it wasn’t super successful even though she was talking about a lot personal issues in her life same thing happened when Nicki released pills n potions. Blame the public not the artist. There also plenty of female rappers who not hyper sexual like no-name, rhapsody and little simz. But the public doesn’t pay much attention to them. Hence why there no big investment into them.This video should be blaming record labels and the general public instead of chastising female rappers.
