According to a radio station in Baltimore, where I'm from... Hoobastank is an alternative for curse words. Due to the age of one the band members younger siblings. So, in stead of cursing they would make up words to replace the curse words.

I listened to an old loveline episode with hoobastank. They explained Hoobastank was a name of...and don't quote me on this (it was quite a long time ago that I heard it). But it was a name of a service station somewhere in Germany.

Hoobastank did some awesome stuff until 2006, their first album in 1999 was indie and mixed all kinds of music and was very cool
