Damn you took the words right out of my mouth. I think enough time has passed that nostalgia will carry a fourth Mummy movie to huge success if they have a decent enough story. They should have made Rise of the Aztec and should have used it to do a soft reboot of Alex's character. Then they should have built a darker, grittier Dark Universe set in the late 19th/early 20th century and slowly build up recurring characters based around Van Helsing, before finally doing a Mummy/Van Helsing crossover where they return to Egypt where it all began and an elderly Van Helsing passes the torch onto Alex to continue the franchise. Yes, I've thought about this TOO MUCH.

The mexica (wrongly called the aztec) didn't practice the process of mummification, nor any mesoamerican civilization. The small number of "mummies" in Mesoamerica are product of natural preservation in dry environments. As far as I know, the mummies of South America, including those from Peru, exists also because of the extremely dry or cold climate
@RageTreb3 жыл бұрын
Definitely doesn't make it okay, but I think they might've changed the hair colors in the animated series because they didn't have the likeness rights to the actors' faces? A similar thing happened in the Minority Report video game back in the day, where they made the main character blonde to really emphasize that it wasn't supposed to be Tom Cruise
@banquetoftheleviathan1404 Жыл бұрын
Could also be a way just to make them stand out more, it’s partly why anime has vibrant hairstyles. Egons hair in the actual ghostbusters movie is boring meanwhile his bright blonde curl in the real/xtreme ghost busters is totally slaaaayyy

So between The Mummy and The Mummy III: Tomb of The Dragon Emperor, there's a progression from being not-Indiana Jones to being not-The Jewel of the Nile. The Jewel of the Nile was the sequel to Romancing the Stone (itself another not-Indiana Jones film) and the plot point which incites the action is the petering out of the relationship between Jack Colton and Joan Wilder since the events of Romancing The Stone. An aimless life living on a sailing boat mooring in one resort town after another before moving on has palled. She takes a job to ghost-write the 'autobiography' of a North African despot and briefly contemplates the possibility a romantic relationship with her client but quickly needs rescuing. It was explicitly stated in Jewel of the Nile that the relationship worked in the context of a mutual sharing of the experience of adventure and without that there was little else to hold it together. It is re-kindled as a result of being subject to a state of crisis again (until the next time I guess). Joan Wilder was a romance writer, as Evie suddenly was in The Mummy III. Jack Colton was, like Rick O'Connell, an adventurer. Oh, and in a cancelled third entry to the Romancing the Stone films (The Crimson Eagle) the plot would have revolved around the children of Colton and Wilder being imperilled, instigating the action. Sounds kind of familiar.

Let me be honest. I totally hate you because I love your lighting. Even when you're just in your room sitting on the mattress, you're lighting rocks. In this video, it was totally fantastic. I'm thoroughly jealous. I wanted you to know that as I try my hand at this KZbin thing and I over contrast my video and end up looking like an extra from the walking Walking Dead because my lighting totally sucks, I will think "I'll never get that awesome lighting Little Hoot has." Then I'll turn green with envy and be forced to just audition for the lead in the live-action Kermit The Frog bio. So I totally have that to look forward to. Anyway, thanks for reminding me of the Mummy movies. I totally forgot how much fun they were. (Yeah, even the Third one.). Never saw the animation. I think I was too busy being a Buffy geek back then. Never going to check it out. But it was a (warning, obvious pun alert) hoot to hear about it.

Your brilliant assessment totally fixes the casting! I recently watched Mummy 3 for the first time (I definitely resented it for existing without Rachel but I’m older and wiser and know Evie2 is just an actress with big shoes to fill!) and I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it ended up being, for the most part. For me it wasn’t even the romance novelist part that annoyed me - it was how she longed for the traumatic adventures again! Like I’m sorry no Evelyn actually died and was resurrected there’s no way she’s sighing like those were the good old days 😂 BUT with the concept of “Mary Bella” writing these adventures as though they are hers - poof! Fixed! Excellent love your addition to Mummy. Make the movie Stephen. Make the movie.

I was sort of hoping you'd touch on that weird cliffhanger ending the show had, I don't remember it at all except that it was super confusing. But I really liked your pitch. I think the kids' romance plot could be sort of a wink at the parents, Brendan saying something like "Archeologists, I told you" to his son. I guess that would be cheesy enough to kill 2 or 3 people.

Okay, but what if Mary Bella was so obsessed with the O'Connells that she sabotaged their relationship, wormed her way into Rick's life, then married him but insisted he call her Evie.
