Up until just a few of years ago it was nearly impossible to find anything on the internet about carrot tops. I also couldn't find anything in any of my books and what I did find said that carrot tops were unusable. I always hated throwing carrot tops away because they were so hard to find. I'm really happy that's changed.

I have always used the horseradish leaves in my fermented pickles, and also the brined and canned dills. I had a few left the other day, and an extra tray in my dehydrator so dried them up. Figured someone would have some hints on using. The other thing I like the leaves for is to add to bubble and squeak along with cabbage. I have also used it when making colcannon. It's a nice subtle difference and I like it. Besides, I always get abundant leaves, although the roots are quite small in my soil.

Right on time Heidi! Just the day before yesterday I was wondering about the carrot tops on my carrots. Thank you so much for mentioning this and I just did a batch of Claussen pickles and I’m hoping they turn out good. I want crunchy pickles so I picked this recipe, but I also added just a little bit of pickle crisp about 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon in each jar. So I’m excited about these pickles. I can’t wait to try them! Thank you Heidi, and have a great day, Heidi!

I started pulling garlic yesterday. Before I knew it, I pulled it all. Thanks to God the heads were all nice and there are plenty to replant this fall! I think the gophers kept digging tunnels under them bc of our drought so of the 75 planted, I got about 50 heads. Still plenty for eating, planting and canning for us.

It sure has been a bummer without rain as we are so droughted here. We have been inedited with Japanese beetles, cucumber beetles squash beetles., we have had to pulled zucchini, pumpkins, yellow squash, it has been not a very good year on the garden. We still are getting something; but not like we should have. The garden started out just beautiful and now it is sad. Question. Heidi love your videos on vacuum sealing jars. Have you ever vacuum sealed liquids in a jar. I am speaking specifically of when making tinctures. It is already shelf stable with the alcohol. To prevent oxidation why not vacuum seal while it is mascerating the herbs. Then after you drain re vacuum seal it again. Wondering what kind of headspace it would need or if it is possible. Could you also not vacuum seal the kimchi after fermentation?
@RainCountryHomestead

You can vacuum seal liquids for storage in the fridge or shelf if, as you say, they are a tincture but I would not vacuum seal anything that is a live ferment as it can possibly build up too much pressure and explode.

@@RainCountryHomestead Wow, thank you for responding, and quickly I might add. I’m just starting to learn about growing herbs to be used for medicinal tinctures etc. There’s more to it than I thought there would be, but…I’m determined to learn. I worry if/when we won’t get meds from China anymore as my husband and I take maintenance meds. Not only for those types of meds but also cough cold flu meds, etc. I feel lucky in finding your channel.

How long does it take for Castor Oil to go bad & go rancid?

I have never had it go rancid but I am sure it depends on where you store it as high heat environments can cause many fats to go rancid

I have to ask why castor oil in your eyelashes? I know it will help your hair grow but I'm not sure about eyelashes since they get to a certain length and stop growing despite these fake lashes that are 2 and 3 inches long.

I am putting it IN my eye to help with dry eye and vision but also good for eyelash growth. Just like any other hair, eye lashes fall out and replace themselves. This helps speed up the growth process as well as making them thicker and yes, for some, a little longer. Fake eye lashes are ridiculous (unless someone can't grow any at all) especially the stupidity we are seeing now

I know sour cream powder from Auguson Farms taste's bad, like really bad. I don't know if they use no fat sour cream or what the problem is I just know it's truly awful.
