I'd argue another key aspect to the Joker specifically as a character is his fixation and duality with Batman, which I feel they chose to go all out on doing a parody of that relationship in the lego film, and they let his campy humor kind of meld with the overall brand of humor these lego films seem to have! I feel like a few puns or cheesy jokes would have been a nice addition, but I felt The Lego Joker kept in the spirit of the character pretty well. A throwback to campier versions, while also being a bit more modern with humor for modern kids/adults. Woulda liked more of his laugh too though haha. Honestly, any video discussing and dissecting what makes the Joker great is fantastic in my eyes, I love im'!

To me, the Joker is the best way to try tackle a character who takes nothing seriously, in a world where everything is taken seriously. That's why violent crime works so well, 'cause anything deadly should be taken seriously. I assume any big artist tries to add purpose to their work, even if that purpose is, subversive. So, how does a person, who tries really hard to make everything have a purpose, to make sure every added scene/chapter/shape/color, relates to the overarching theme, subvert that intent? One way, would to be a character who's designed to ignore everything. All the rules that other characters are written around. _The only limit is he must be funny in some way, and not too aware of the fourth wall._ That's how I think of the Joker.

I know I'm late, but yes and no. While Phoenix was a phenomenal actor, in my eyes at least he was far from the Joker. Sure he laughed like an idiot and cracked the occasional joke, but he was TOO grounded. His jokes were usually made in fits of rage and he didn't even seem to be enjoying them too much. As for his laugh, not only is it forced because of his disorder but when he "truly" is laughing you can't really laugh with him.

Watched this movie a week ago. I just love the silliness in Batman and how Joker actually has feelings and regard for Batman's relationship with good and evil. That really got me onto the perspective of thinking "Who would Batman be without the Joker on his back? " And how Batman sincerely gives a damn about what he does and what he needs to do it. Every other comment is saying that Max should can the comedy and just present his opinions about whatever topic and leave it there. You want straightforward in-and-out analytical movie reviews? There's about 10,000 channels on KZbin doing exactly that! Would you really enjoy the show more if it were just an animated bald guy talking in front of a wall with relevant movie clips edited in? If you aren't an animator then you can't imagine how boring simply doing lip sync and gesturing for each video would be, which is why he tries to make it visually interesting by doing something different every week (new characters, different costumes, backgrounds etc). Sure, there are times when I'd like to hear his thoughts on a movie but end up with a bait and switch but that's just part of Max's sense of humour. If it really offends you that much then this probably isn't the channel for you. If nothing else, you're never sure what you're going to get from Brain Dump! And as far as I can see, Suicide Squad and Rogue one are the only times he completely skirted the topic of the video title. Every other episode is him giving his opinion on the movie or just one aspect he wants to discuss. And by the way, it isn't a critics job to tell you if a movie is good or bad. It's their job to give you their thoughts about a movie and let you decide against your own taste and preferences if it's for you. Max said from the beginning "Brain Dump is whatever I want it to be" and acknowledged that it might not be for everyone. If you haven't caught on by now that Brain Dump isn't strictly a movie review show, then you're the idiot. Quit bitching at the guy who spends hours producing high quality animation about how you think he should make his show. Here ends my impassioned defense of Brain Dump.

Mark Hamill talked a lot about the variety of laughs he used for the Joker. He compared them to keys on a piano, and when he felt like a certain situation called for a certain laugh he'd metaphorically hit that key on the keyboard. He definitely takes the character seriously and that's what I love about him.

Max, I've been subscribed to you for a number of years and I just wanted to say that Brain Dump is by far my favourite series you've produced. I love how behind the review/discussion portion of your videos there's all these homages to classic cartoon jokes set in. (every episode is full of them but I really appreciated the eyeroll at 5:05 with the very iconic sound effect) It just feels like with these you get to have so much fun cuz not only are you giving yourself a space to voice your opinion, but you get to play with/riff on the tropes that you watched growing up as a kid. Even if the episode turns out to not be very analytical (or just a 5 minute joke itself), I'm never disappointed because it's so very clear that you make these for yourself, and although that sounds selfish I guess, it's really the best way to make art because you're putting your own passion into it, not just what someone else wants (as you obviously know). I guess that's the true reason I love Brain Dump, because you're obviously passionate about it; or at least, passionate about having fun with it, haha. I really really LIKE Goofball because his purpose just feels so classic to me. You've obviously made his humour more adult, but he still holds a specific trope that I've seen growing up and it's just so wonderful to see someone like you, that has such a grasp on those kinds of things, playing with them and making them your own (as you've done with Goofball). I feel like until YOU get tired of him, Goofball won't be going away just cuz some people want him to. And I like that. I like watching a series that feels not only like a love letter to classic and iconic cartoons, but a love letter to yourself as well. Anyway, I don't know if you'll actually see this cuz it's a few days since you've posted this video, but I wanted to thank you anyway for the years of work you've done and the many laughs you've given me. I hope you keep this up for as long as feels good for you, and if it ever comes to an end I hope to be right there, still watching.

I thought Ledgers joker was pretty funny. he had an ironic sense of humor taken from some of his comic book personas. I mean setting firetrucks on fire, just to do it? Emptying a glass to drink it empty? Not only was his humor there, the way it was portrayed made him even more unpredictable. Mark is mu fav though. but Ledger was the best live action one.

Because unlike PPG, TTG is self aware to the extent that it's not an accident in trying to be wholesome. It's not a show going "FOR THE CHILDREN!!!" removing an actual influential character of the series (Bellum). It's just playing around with wacky cartoon antics like old school cartoons, and in this day and age not many shows do that well. Also, no matter how much these fucking whiny ass clowns want to bellow, the original TT's ran it's course. It went as far as it could and ending on a high note without flat out being cancelled, and that's more than most series get to have.

Just because it's a "kid's show" shouldn't mean it's allowed to be fucking retarded. despite all it's success the show is ungrateful and feels the need to be praised because of it. it treats it's audience like there stupid. (in a way they are) but how can you have any sort of intelligence watching it? you can have a kids show and be for everyone with talking about adult subjects with out it being pretentious or pandering. look at steven universe. that is a great kids show.

In the German Dub the Joker is voiced by a pretty famous KZbinr. At first you'd think "Aw shit, the cringe" but he actually does a pretty good job.
