Good man, clearly this idler roller was the issue in your machine, but some machines have a pair of bearings that the front lip of the drum sits on, or a set of plastic glides, likewise there is usually a bronze bushing to the rear. All can go and give the rumbles, but all are quite handy to repair, depending on the designers sense of malice for the consumer!
@BuyitFixit2 жыл бұрын
Thanks bootsowen. This machine has two rollers on the front which looked and sounded ok when spinning the drum manually. I remember some a while back that were just a piece of felt that the front ran on, and eventually wears through and you end up metal on metal which sounds lovely 😂😂😂😂

Wow, thought the inside of a tumble dryer would look more scary than that. Think I'd tackle something like that myself if I needed to. Nice fix - glad you turned the mains off before you started tinkering inside it 😁

Super helpful Mick thankyou. We certainly found the tension of the drive belt can really be quite something, you made pulling it back over the jockey wheel look far too easy!

Take the motor out is the easiest way they’re know as jockey wheel as well, normally good practice to take that housing off to the front of where you’re working and clean the input fan blades also clean the sludge out of the water reservoir at the back and clean the float and 8:05 your belt has a split in it 😊 Great fix though as always
@BuyitFixit2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Cucumber man. Yes I did notice the split in the belt too! Thanks for the heads up👍👍

Thanks Smashy Rashy. I helped one of our neighbours a few weeks back with a leaking radiator valve. A plumber charged them £250 to replace 4 of them, but there was another that he missed. I stripped the valve down and replaced three O rings which were literally a few pennies.

Thanks mate. I did look at it again after the heater died. I did a short on it called tumble dryer mission creep, as I ended up cleaning every single part and stripping the whole thing down to it's base which I jet washed 😂😂😂

It was about £8 from Amazon. They are available on Ebay too.

What a terrible design choice. I figure either attributed to planned obsolescence or extreme penny pinching. Either is shameful. Glad you were able to fix it and I hope it helps others keep theirs going
@BuyitFixit2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Four Oak Farm. Totally agree, pretty poor design and definitely not designed to last.
@karloflochalsh8817 Жыл бұрын
It's much easier to replace/get access to if you unclip the white plastic housing immediately in front of the motor and take off the plastic blower which is under the cover. With the cover out of the way, replacing the belt (especially fitting a new one) is also much easier, you can pre stretch new belts if you are struggling...
@BuyitFixit Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip👍. I actually discovered that when I totally stripped it and cleaned the entire thing a couple of months ago. I did a short on it called tumble dryer mission creep, as I was just going to replace the heater but ended up stripping it down to the base which I then power washed 😂😂😂
@MrEwool2 жыл бұрын
That was really poor design for the companys point, I know that a bearing cost a lot if you are making millions of machines but it really cuts the life of the machine. Great seeing different things, but keep up the great work
@BuyitFixit2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Morten. Not an electrical repair but I thought it might help some people who have the same issue. Yes poor design. I've replaced the same part before a few years back. Hopefully this one lasts longer but think I'm going to have to replace the motor too.

The plastic cover comes off, not sure how accessible it is with the drum in place. I did a short where I stripped the whole thing down after this repair as the heater broke a few months later, and cleaned everything. It's still working fine since then. kzbin.infojIv-gD-MvQ8

Sadly everything is made with a carefully planned end of life. They are not built to last, even if they easily can do that, because that would make it less profitable. I wish there was global rules that said things expected to last 5 years should be made to last 10 years of normal wear and tear by law. In Norway we have something of the sort for home products. Everything expected to last two years has a 5 year “warranty” against production faults causing it to fail in that period by law. The producer has two chances of fixing the same fault in a product and if it happen again they need to provide a new product or give money back. This has helped a lot when it comes to big household appliances.

Thanks Peder, agree things aren't made to last now. I recently bought a kitchen aid stand mixer, it's 34 years old! I did a video on servicing it and it's built like a tank! I'd easily expect it to last another 34 years... have a look if you're interested and get time. Thanks for commenting 👍
@kaitlyn__L Жыл бұрын
Exactly, they could afford to build them to last when they were expanding their customer base but once everyone already had one they had to engineer ways for them to break. In a better world the company would just accept that it's smaller and be of a size required to replace the ones lost to genuine attrition over time. But instead they sell to a multinational conglomerate who puts their name on any old crap.
