I think that Helaena doesn’t give a shit about who’s the heir or not so asking her to give up either of her kids is horrific, so she has no reason to lie. She doesn’t care about heir or no heir. Both are her babies.

Yeah, if they suspected or saw that she lied, her daughter would be dead, and her and her son's life would be in danger, considering there are no guards outside (how would there be, if these two snuck in without an issue to her chambers?). She made the only choice she could, one that would save at least one child. In the book though, this scene was 10 times worse.

There's 7 total kingsguard (KG) at S1 ep 9. 3 of the KG went to Rhaenyra in ep 10: Lorant Marbrand, Erryk Cargyle, and Steffon Darklynn. There is currently 4 KG on the green side: Arrick Cargyle, Criston Cole, 2 more unnamed KG at the moment.

in the book, Aegon's son was the main target not Aemond. B&C bound and gagged Alicent and the whole incident happens in front of her. Alicent is never with Cole. B&C force Helaena to choose between her sons - 6 year old Jaehaerys or 2 year old Maelor, otherwise they threatened to r*pe her daughter Jaehaera. Helaena chose Maelor, thinking he was too young to understand anything. But B&C killed Jaehaerys and said to Maelor - "Your mama wants you dead". The whole event was so much more traumatising in the book

Yall can comment about how many kingsguard all you want, the fact there was no one guarding the Queen, the heir to the throne and the princess is wild. Even if Ser Criston was standing guard he could only stand at the Queen consort of the Queen dowagers door so someone is still going unprotected.

There are always 7 kingsguard knights. Rhaneyra has 3 if them on dragonstone, Criston was in the former Queens bed, 2 were with the king, and one quit at the end of the season

I love how Aegon once he's king immediately tries to do better than Viserys who was a shitty neglectful father to him. Aegon loves Jaehaerys so much, the one good thing he made and one of the few that brings a smile to him. He wants to care for his son And simultaneously train his heir from beginning on. And unlike Rhaenyra he recognizes the contribution of the small folk.

Viserys had basically no relationship with Rhaenyra until after her mother died because he was so fixated on having a son. Only after that fixation killed Aemma did he start paying attention to the child she left behind. Aegon caring only for his named heir while hardly sparing a glance at his wife and other child is not so different.

I never read the books but from my understanding the sequence at the end with Blood and Cheese is far more violent and bloody in the book. Weird to say but I would rather take the ending the show gave vs what I hear happened in the book.
