The producers wouldn’t renew her contract for the salary she requested. She was apparently getting quite a lot less than the other actors for quite a lot of character appearance. Hugh Laurie suggested that he take a pay cut to keep her on board, but he was refused by the suits. So she was fired. This was mid season so David Shore & co. were forced to cobble a pathetic end to her storyline. And we are worse for it. NBC loves to neuter their IPs for money. Lisa Edelstein was very under-appreciated.

"Leaving aside the fact that House is a sociopath..." Yeah, that's pretty much a pre-requisite.
@Ftrfgrd32323 ай бұрын
Sociopath doesn't have sympathy or empathy for others, House does. You want famous fictional sociopaths try the American psycho, Joe Pesci from Good fellas or Casino, dreaded girl from the Wire the 4th season, that Narc from Leon, that Hemsworth's antagonist from "Furiosa".
@katocs2 ай бұрын
@@Ftrfgrd3232 Wrong. What youre describing is psychopathy, not sociopathy. Sociopaths can experience a wide range of emotions, they can feel empathy for others but its more inhibited, whereas psychopaths totally lack it alltogether. They are able to form emotional bonds whereas psychopaths aren't or only are in a certain way that suits them. House is almost a textbook sociopath, he has no regard for the law, he frequently says or does horrible things to people without any remorse because he wants to follow his own convoluted path that he considers "correct" without caring what it does to people around him. He has substance abuse issues. He brutally verbally abuses people, knowing full well that its obviously gonna hurt them but he just does not care, like when he told Cuddy that its a good thing she failed to become a mom because she sucks at it when her first adoption attempt failed. He made Wilson believe that he has a child and let them bond before revealing it was just an actor, he dosed 13 with caffeine making her think she's starting to suffer from Huntingtons and essentially forced her into doing a test even though she didnt want to, making the decision for her because he thinks its right even though its not up to him at all, he doses cuddys mom in this episode because he finds her annoying and this is just the tip of the iceberg of a long list of morally black area stuff he has pulled. He causes pain for patients in almost every single episode just to confirm hunches without any care or remorse because all that's important to him is being right and solving the puzzle, he is incredibly reckless with treatments and tests in general. He does have close attachments to a very few amount of people but even these attachments are incredibly challenging for him, as he still ignores his friends/partners emotions, lies to them or decieves them in some form most of the time. All of these characteristics fit sociopathy to a T Do you honestly believe a "normal" person would even remotely be like this? And if not, what other condition do you believe he has? lol.

@@katocs psychopath is a sociopath with logic according to you
@katocs2 ай бұрын
@@Ftrfgrd3232 psychopathy and sociopathy are related and therefor emit similar symptoms such as general lack of remorse, anti social behavior, disregard for the law and so on but as I said, while a sociopath can still experience empathy and form connections with people (although its more inhibited and challenging compared to a normal person), a psychopath cant do these things at all, so I guess in some sense you could argue that a psychopath is a sociopath with *only* logic. Only cold and calculated decisionionmaking without any emotional aspect whatsoever, which is why House is not a psychopath but a sociopath in pretty much every aspect

This was actually producer meddling. Everyone on staff save Hugh Laurie took pay cuts to pay Olivia Wilde who was very much not in season 8 enough to justify. Lisa Edelstein knew what she was worth and refused to renew her contract for that. Hugh Laurie even requested that he take a pay cut to keep her on board. At that point, the producers spited her and didn’t allow it. The writers had to magic some kind of end to her story. If you watch Hugh Laurie’s House MD retrospective which documented the last few days, she appears twice and not on set. I suspect she was blackballed. If anything, the writers ended the season perfectly because the producers essentially drove a car right through the show.

Wilson is Cuddy's friend, but the entire story is that House lied to them both so he could spend that night by himself, since he wasn't going to enjoy the dinner and Wilson had just broken up with Sam and was apparently getting too annoying if I remember correctly. So, House told Wilson that he couldn't make plans with him because he had Cuddy's birthday dinner... And he told Cuddy that he couldn't go to the dinner because Wilson needed him after the breakup. Of course, they found out and they tricked him into going to the dinner by telling him to chose between their different plans for the night, House obviously chose Wilson's and then they revealed that the question was a trick, both of them had the same plan now and he should stop being selfish

These scenes always make me so happy, and then so sad. I loved watching House struggle in these situations where he had to overcome his innate House-ness, because he wanted to be with Cuddy, and that meant engaging in all these social protocols that he had gotten used to ignoring, and then somehow he would find a way to meet the requirements while also still incorporating his natural House-ness. It was just. . .so fun. The show never quite bounced back afterwards for me.

Aw man, it skipped the best part. After Cuddy looks shocked it immediately cuts to her and House just happily doing the dishes together.

Jewish mom's are amongst the most loving and caring people on the planet, I'm so tired of them being stereotyped as overbearing and judgemental and intolerable. It's just boring, repetitive and feeds a miserablely inaccurate stereotype.
@jez-bird2 жыл бұрын
Though they can wiggle out by saying she converted.. probably a conscious decision on the writers part to avoid being called stereotypes, which they are anyway.
@jez-bird2 жыл бұрын
@Assismus I didn't write "the chews", or "the Jews". And I said they're "amongst", meaning there are other groups of mom's that are equally loving and caring. But growing up and living in Jewish communities, in multiple countries, this describes my experience. And there is a big difference between a false-negative stereotype and a true-positive stereotype. One leads to unprovoked hate and violence, the other pushes hate and violence away.

Not having seen this before, I find it interesting that the character liberally sprinkled in a number of yiddish phrases. Now, given the length of time since she converted (and likely, had considerable occasion to deal with her in-laws), that might not be particularly unusual, but still, I'm wondering what the writers' intention was by inserting the behavior?
@trianglemoebius2 жыл бұрын
She was co-opting Yiddish phrases to try and appear more unique and interesting. It's to show she's disingenuous.
