Yeah same. My routine is super messed up and my motivation is gone! My teachers will give us our final grades in two weeks, but we haven't written any exams yet. Usually my exams boost my grade a lot...(In my country our grades are 60% particiption in class and 40% exams) So my grades will be the worst grades I've ever had and that killed my motivation! It really sucks, because these grades (and the ones from last semester and next year) will be the ones I'll use to apply to university. We'll still have online school, but won't get grades for it... So I just don't see any point on doing my assignments🙄 But I know I'll have to do them at some point.

You're productive because you have a comfortable and secure environment, opportunities worth working for and the tools to make the most of them, and are physically and mentally healthy. Obviously this doesn't discount hard work, but it's important to acknowledge that this level of productivity isn't accessible to everyone if they're missing one or more of these elements. It's okay to not be productive, especially right now. It's okay to just survive.

How do you know the state of her mental health?
@georgie1214
@georgie1214 4 жыл бұрын
@@martina5105 I don't. I'm saying that in comparison to a person who is debilitated by mental illness or doesn't have secure housing or infinite other possibilities, Ruby has factors which enhance her capacity to be productive. I'm sure she is also lacking benefits which allow other people to be productive. It's not an attack, you wont find me devaluing how hard she works because we all know she works hard. My message was directed towards people with a diminished capacity to be productive, for whatever reason, that holding themselves to this standard isn't necessary or helpful. Ruby is blessed in her circumstances which improve her ability to be productive. I am also blessed in my circumstances, as we all are, in different ways. The point of my message was simply to give people permission to hold themselves to different standards if their circumstances don't look the same as Ruby's. Not being productive right now is not the worst thing in the world.
@martina5105
@martina5105 4 жыл бұрын
@@georgie1214 I agree that it's apparent that Ruby in many ways lives in conditions that favour her succeeding in being productive. I just don't like when people present assumptions about things like people's health as facts. But yes she apparently is not debilitated by an illness. These days I see a lot of people say that it's okay not to be productive or hold yourself to a high standard. Not only because there is a deadly pandemic, but as you say, many people struggle in different ways even under usual circumstances. I agree and appreciate these messages, but sadly when your employer/school does not hold the same view, you simply ~have to~ achieve productivity somehow..and that's frustrating. I know of people who struggle materially and mentally and they manage to make productivity their fuel and distraction. I marvel at this because for a while I have been struggling with mental health issues, unable to maintain the level of productivity I should, and perhaps I compare myself to these people more than to seemingly healthy ones and wonder if I should be able to do that too. Anyway, our whole culture of productivity where people are primarily valued for what they produce is sad and harmful.

I think one important thing to note is being able to be productive is a privilege. Don't beat yourself up if you're unmotivated and find it hard to be productive. It's an anxious time for us all and some people cope in different ways. We all have different lives and different factors that impact how productive we can be - family, financial situation, living situation etc. Just recognise that it's okay to have days where you do nothing. We're going through a pandemic, what's important is that you come out of it well and healthy.

Most of my friends actually live in small apartments, share a room and don’t have an actual desk. They are all med students and literally study on their beds and get one of the highest grades (80%). Yes it’s harder and less optimal, but never an excuse to not work with what you have. And those friends are now also the people who can study even in a noisy environment, whereas i lose my shit as soon as one person is typing too loud in the library. Basically what im saying, you can make it happen regardless. It will be harder, but who said everything was suppose to be easy all the time? The friends i talked about are in noway more intelligent, which i used to use as an excuse, until i started studying with them and saw that they just put in the hours. YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

Hey Ruby, 🌼 In an older video of yours, there was a robin that flew very near to you and you were very amazed by it. I don't know if you believe in it, but I personally do, as I had many encounters where a robin would come up to me: Robins are said to be soul-carriers. Im reading the comments and literally everyone is complaining about this. It's really difficult to focus and do something when nothing is stable and the future is blurry. Currently I'm a high school senior studying for uni exams which got postponed to the end of July. I really needed extra time to study and if I can use this time efficiently it would be such a breeze. However I SABOTAGE my own self and make myself feel like I'm a failure, I'm not doing great, now everybody has time to study and I'm already so behind. These toxic thoughts slowed me down now I cannot finish even one task a day and I sit by my desk all day everyday. Can't lift this feeling off. But seeing that a lot of people are experiencing this made me think it's totally natural to feel like this. So I'm assuring you these tough times will pass and all we have is today. Let's make today a legendary day and don't think about the constant violent competition we live in and try to be better versions of ourselves. Don't fall into the pit of misery xx

@@senadogan6267 I AM SO WITH YOU! I'm in my senior year as well and I am literally hitting myself over the time I am wasting. Although, we don't have our exams until November, but we have assignments and other tests throughout the year that all contribute to 50% of our scores necessary for uni. And to let that 50% down the drain is heartbreaking. I just don't know what's going to happen, or what's expected of us.

Love this video! And also, I think it's important to know that inspiration and insight often come in those quiet moments when we allow space in our lives. Leaving room for boredom and stillness actually give us moments of clarity, intuitive hits, and creativity. So many of our greatest creatives - such as J.K. Rowling and Walt Disney - received their best creative ideas when they were bored and allowing their minds space to wander. :) It's okay to be bored. It's good to allow moments of quiet, inner stillness in our modern ambitious world.

I tidied up my desk, cracked my window open, made a schedule and a time table. I also turned on your "Cosy Morning Study with Me" and got through three chapters of chapter revision in one sitting! I have ADHD so that's incredible for me to sit still and do work for so long. Studying and finishing assignments been so much easier with these new changes and I just wanted to say thank you. How do you arrange that? What do you do in that case? Also...second question! What do you do to get started? Boosting motivation - Properly get ready for the day: dress nice, do hair, makeup etc. and make yourself a nice breakfast. If you treat your day like something, it becomes something. Brain know you can get things done. - Watch study with me videos to recreate the library effect. - Wake up early -> become much more productive. Get big key tasks done early in the morning. - Read books/films with motivating character (Eg. Harry Potter, Little Women, The Lisa Book, History of the Rain, The Overachievers, Suffragette, Parental Guidance, The Imitation game) Finding structure - The most important thing - Plan an ideal a morning routine + evening routine. Every time in a new place, make a new morning routine. Good morning sets up for a good productive day: Good evening -> Good morning -> Good day. - Make a daily routine: rough idea of what you do each day. - Make a weekly timetable: things that always happens on Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun. When you’r more mindful of time, you are more productive. -Make an in-depth study schedule with timeframes. When seeing a sequence of time: more likely to get it done. Parkinson’s law: work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. Dealing with boredom - When you’re motivated and positive, write activities for yourself to do when bored. Eg. write an article, watch a Ted Talk, start a bullet journal, do a workout, stretch, etc. - Write goals for the lockdown. Study spaces - very important - Clean and tidy your desk - Place desk in front of a window or natural source of light (increases productivity) - Open a window: airy space even a little cold is preferable - Have everything you need on your desk so you don’t get distracted - If possible, change location, e.g. kitchen, couch, go to your sibling's desk - Put photos and things that spark joy on your desk (e.g. friends and family pics) - Change music when you change location: + Feel-good music - low focus tasks (e.g. note-taking/sort thru files) + Movie playlist - general tasks + Classical music - focused task + Ambient - focus tasks + Background noise - focused task - When doing focused studying, put in a “don’t come in” sign Other tips - Exercise daily: definitely improves academic performance - Eat healthily: is linked to productivity - Drink lots of water - Not reading the news too much - Use an app called Forest - Don’t use your phone in the morning, may lead to a spiral of un-productivity. Starting out the day right leads to a productive day.

I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, and your videos really make me motivated. Anyway I was diagnosed with ADHD (without hyperactivity) when I was 8-years old, and have always been struggling at school. I was never the loud one in the class but I found so many things distracting, and at home I just didn’t have the willpower to do any school work. I’m always told by my teachers, therapists etc that I’m quite smart, but my grades have always been low. Now that the schools are closed I’m reeally struggling with all the homework, and I just wanted to say that your videos have really helped me keep the motivation up❤️

Very helpful video. Thank you very much! I think, I will try having a weekly schedule because I sometimes find it hard to stick with my plans throughout the day. Recently, I quite often find myself just chatting with my friends for hours and that messes up my concentration. Mornings are the most productive for me, I guess because I stick with my basics which is waking up at 6.30 and a morning walk with my dog Warhol. Afterwards, I find it easier to study and I feel I'm the most motivated. When I pick up my phone whenever I want, it ruins everything. By the way, I don't understand how one can be actually bored at home. Especially a grown up person. There is always something to do. The toughest problem nowadays for me is the fact that I'm tired of staying indoors, I miss my friends, my gf, I miss my studio sessions, my performances... Of course, I'm just thankful I'm healthy and I'm not complaining but it's not the easiest situation for anybody, I guess.

Omg thank you for the tips. About two months ago before lock down I ranked number 1 in class and 10 in the school. I was so happy but then I just relized that I have to maintain my place in class and get a top three rank for my finals to improve my goals. Since the pandemic started I couldn't even open my textbook, I just feel so lazy. So thank you, I'm still trying to be productive and stop procastinating

Does anyone else really struggle with the morning and evening routine stuff? I find it really hard to switch off my devices and get an early night and often struggle to fall asleep for hours which then makes me sleep in. Also in the morning I usually feel rubbish and reach for my phone and can never get anything done til like 2pm. I think the bigger issue is I’m addicted to screens -__-
@inspiredby-sx7wy
@inspiredby-sx7wy 4 жыл бұрын
I struggled with it, but now I am getting up at 6 am and am productive and do so much before noon. I really recommend to dou to not touch ypur phone for like 3 hours after getting up and 3 hours before sleeping. (Maybe the app forest can help you?) I also know this feelimg of not being possible to sleep too well. What helped: Forcing myself to get up early and going for the next week quite late to bed. (12 pm - 6 am). So, I was more tired at 12 pm and could fall asleep faster! Also avoiding screens really helps! And also not working in your bed (This means: Just sleep in your bed, don't learn, don't do phone stuff there, don't netflix). How did I motovate myself to wake up that early even qith an alarm? Honestly, it is really hard, BUT: When the alarm went off I instantly switched on my lamps. Then I was imagining how good I would feel, when I got up now and did all my work and had all done by noon. This really has motovated me. You also should to exspect being a little bit tired for the next 2 to 3 weeks, but honestly this isn't a really big problem. The feeling of proud outweighs that. And of course I will be starting getting to bed earlier, like about 11:30 pm or even at 10 pm, bc it is more healthy and helps with studying/depression etc. I don't write this to shove it all in your face, I just know your situation too well and maybe it can help?

@@inspiredby-sx7wy this is actually really good advice thank you! I'm not quite at the 6am start yet (and in this lockdown I don't have much to do so I'm not gonna force myself to get up that early for no big reason lol) but I did go to bed at midnight last night (which is early for me) and woke up naturally at 8am. I did check my phone briefly when I woke up (it's gonna take me a while to get to your level of self-discipline haha) but then I forced myself to sit down and get some of my uni work done which I've just completed and it's not yet midday! It has made me feel so accomplished and productive and I'm definitely gonna start getting into the habit of trying to get stuff done in the morning. I think just starting easy, trying to get up around 8 and get at least one easy piece of work done before 12 is good enough for me now but hopefully in the future I can become a more productive morning person. Thank you! xx

Hey, First of all, i wish and hope that you are safe and please take care of yourself. You know i dont know what to say, really, I was actually studying at that time when you posted and i tried to hold myself to not to watch, so, i thought I'd just have glimpse of it for just 10 seconds but in just 3 seconds i got completely caught up with you, and i watched it from 3 pm to 4 pm again and again, you know that feeling when you just couldn't get enough of something, it was that for me, and watching that smile again and again especially in the beginning for the first 10-15 seconds, i just kept smiling while watching you, you were looking beautiful Ruby, and that smile, I'm truly speechless this time, this is for sure my most favourite video of yours, maybe KZbin's most favourite video yet that I ever watched, believe me, i just have a regret that why i didn't save it for tomorrow morning, because i know how my day would have been tomorrow but still I think this smile is going to be with me for atleast 2- 3 days for sure, I'm sorry I don't still feel like i have been able to express with my words what i felt when i watched you, i think I'm still in that zone, i just want to be with this feeling as much as i can for now, thank you so so much Ruby for this, i just really hope, really hope and wish that i meet you someday, and i know that we will meet definitely, soon, I know you must been feeling that what i write is completely irrelevant of the video you post, but for me it's always about you For now I'm going to watch it till i fall asleep, thanks a lot Ruby. And i also want to say thank you, that you included the book imitation game in this video, i wish your subscriber haven't watched would become somewhat intrested, because for me more than the genius he was, i feel more empathetic of the struggle he went through all his life only because if the choices he made and that too for himself and not to offend anyone, but it's so sad of what he had to go through, and he just lived with that, for such a sensitive man he was it was so difficult to go through all of this and that too no one to share it with, and he took everything without any complain, he was happy with whatever little happiness he had in his life , i actually saw the movie haven't read the book, you might be thinking that I'm promoting his movie, maybe i am, but it's true that i want more and more people to know about him, and I'm honoured if even people think I'm promoting his movie, because that man deserves this recognition, that he never got when he was alive. And for now i think this went on too much, so, i just want to say, Stay safe, Please Take good care of yourself, And just keep that beautiful smile, always, Please stay safe. ( I know i say this again and again but i feel like saying it, I'm sorry, but stay safe please)
