In this episode Nell tackles a tempo run around Boulder designed to simulate the 4 sequential hills from the lowest point of the Boston course peaking on the legendary Heartbreak Hill. This is a crucial point in the race and can make or break your race. Nell and her coach, Ric Rojas, talk over some high level training strategy, the importance of training hills and doing speed work.

Nell came roaring into the marathon scene with a 6th place finish at the Boston Marathon in October of 2021. With this COVID rescheduled race, she has a unique opportunity to race Boston again only 6 months later on its usual time in April. She's set her sights on the podium and is analyzing every component of her training to make sure she's strong, fast, and ready to conquer this historically challenging Boston course.

Stay tuned for weekly episodes covering everything in Nell's training including more strength workouts, speed workout, long runs, nutrition, mindset, flexibility, recovery, race strategy, and behind the scenes with her coaches, friends, and other runners in the Boulder area.

I like how you’re including more impactful information in this, along with it being a training fairy for yourself to look back on later on. I’ll be bingeing the rest of the current eps during my own gym warm up. 😊👌🏼

I think the emphasis on speed work is incredibly sensible. Especially with the consensus in the running community being on LRs and mileage, you gotta switch up your training from the crowd’s…otherwise, more or less, you’re relying on being the most talented in order to win. So many great nuggets here, keep it coming
