ABOUT THE AUGUSTINE INSTITUTE
The Augustine Institute helps Catholics understand, live, and share their faith. We create innovative and engaging materials that help all Catholics deepen their relationship with God and his Church. Lighthouse Catholic Media and the Augustine Institute merged on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 2015. Our Graduate School of Theology provides an opportunity for individuals to study theology and earn either an online or an in-person Catholic theology degree. The Augustine Institute also powers FORMED.org along with Ignatius Press. This Catholic media platform has a wide array of parish programs, Bible studies, and entertaining content to support the whole Catholic Church, especially your diocese, parish, and the individual parishioner. Our Catholic Market is a Catholic store to help you find amazing authors, beautiful products, and the best orthodox resources to deepen your faith and give great Catholic gifts.
Following the mission of our patron, Saint Augustine of Hippo, we are here to support all Catholics at every level of their faith journey. With our expert theologians and biblical scholars at the heart of all we do, you can trust that our content aligns with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Ok , no one is answering my question . When was the census taken? Joseph and Mary were in Bethlehem for a census that went out and it was public. So why not simply confirm when the census was taken ?

Taylor Marshall did a way better job on this subject. BTW a simple google search shows that winter in Israel is December and it is typically very mild - around 10c at the coldest - sheep still need to eat.

The best question to ask first is does tik tok know when the mark of the first day began of a calendar. Cause after that, every event was backwards compatible. Unlike some companies, SONY🤨

Some have taken the view based on information in the bible, that the most likely date of the crucifixion is 3 rd April 33 AD. There was a tradition that Moses was conceived the same date he died. If the same applied to Jesus then his birthday would be 38 weeks later on 25 December. If

I think trying to put a date for marking the Messiah's birthday just because other gods do same or celebrate same does not make Christianity seem different. If the first Christians were Hebrews one has to wonder why Christians fuss about being copycats, There is enough to be getting on with without making things up.

So should we be celebrating Christmas at all.

As we have seen, there is really no biblical reason not to celebrate Christmas. At the same time, there is no biblical mandate to celebrate it either. At the end of the day, celebrating Christmas or not is a personal decision. Regardless of the option Christians choose regarding Christmas, their views should not be used as a weapon to attack or denigrate those with opposing views, nor should they be used as a reward for pride over whether it should be celebrated. this holiday or not. As in everything, we must ask for wisdom from the One who grants it liberally to all who seek it (James 1:5) and accept one another in Christian grace and love, regardless of our opinions on Christmas.

Why are people quick to put Christmas up for debate? Perhaps everyone has different reasons but I suspect that the holidays bring a lot of stress and a lot of bad memories for certain people for various reasons. I'm not necessarily saying that's your reason. Jesus Christ was born on December 25th. The Catholic Church, the church that Jesus Christ founded has stated that Christmas is a holiday and is a holy day of obligation. Therefore we must celebrate Christmas.

If you celebrate the birthdate of any of your other loved ones then it seems a good idea to celebrate the birth of your Lord & saviour.

@@NickyMetropolis1313Jesus did not found the Catholic church, the book of Acts says so. The first church was in jerusalem, israel.

We're in no position to judge the early Church since we don't have all the facts that they may have had. What happened at Christmas is the essential, not when it happened.

Let us analyze and study History... Christ Jesus was born in Bethlehem between the 6th to 4th year BCE during the reign of King Herod under the Roman Emperor Augustus Caesar... During that time the Ancient Roman Calender had only 10 months... The 1st month up to the 6th month was represented by the Roman gods and goddesses' Root Names while the 7th month came from the Roman Root word SEPTA, which became SEPTEMBER, then the 8th month came from the Roman Root word OCTO, which became OCTOBER, then the 9th month came from the Roman Root word NOVI, which became NOVEMBER and finally the 10th month came from the Roman Root word DECI, which became DECEMBER. Historians believe that Christ Jesus was born during the "10th month" (Fall Season) which at that time was called in the Ancient Roman Calendar, DECEMBER... When the Roman Emperor Augustus Caesar died in the 14th year, 1st Cent. A.D. when Christ Jesus was in His Teenage years, Emperor Tiberius succeeded the throne and added 2 more months on behalf of Julius Caesar for the 7th month called JULY, and Augustus Caesar for the 8th month called AUGUST, thus, the month of September became the 9th, October became the10th, November became the 11th and December was no longer the original 10th month but became the 12th month in which there were already SNOW in Bethlehem (Winter Season)... When Christ was born in Bethlehem, His registered BIRTH was the 10th month (December), which was the written Roman Census at that time for Blessed Mary and St. Joseph. When Emperor Tiberius reigned in the 14th year, 1st Cent. A.D., the Roman Calendar became 12 months adding the months of July and August, thus, all born on the 10th month including Christ Jesus became the 12th month (still called December) but in Winter Season in Israel... The Exact Birth Day of Jesus on the "10th month" (December) was lost... the Pagan Roman Empire celebrated the SUN GOD FESTIVAL every the 25th day of December (10th Month), and Christ Jesus was also born on the 10th month in Bethlehem presently December today, and since the Pagan Roman Empire accepted the Faith of Christianity in 325 A.D.... the Roman Catholic Church replaced the Pagan SUN GOD FESTIVAL into the "Holy Mass (Celebration) of Christ Jesus" commonly called today CHRISTMAS... The First Christmas in the Christian Roman Empire (United East and West Roman Empire) was celebrated on December 25, 325 A.D.... What better way to STOP the Pagan Festival was to adopt the "Birth of Christ Jesus" on the 10th Month which was presently December (the 12th month)... Analogy, if a person cheated on you, what better way to replace that person is to find another better person than the previous one, and not to have a pet animal as a replacement... the same analogy. Facts and Truth of the Matters, Historians and Archeologists Attested...

If you study passover, it will give you a clue. They were to take Lambs that were 1 year old and sacrifice them on passover, which is when God killed the firstborn of Egypt to set the Hebrews free from slavery. Anyone with a lamb's blood painted on their door post would be spared. Which means the Lambs had to be born around passover. Jesus was the Passover Lamb and he was wrapped in swaddling clothes just like you would wrap a lamb selected for sacrifice. When you are familiar with the feast and Jewish holy days, you're kind of able to make an educated guess. The Passover Lamb is the type and shadow of Jesus's life, death and resurrection whose blood cleanses us from sin and saves us from the wrath of God. Jesus died around Passover, so it's reasonable to think he was also born around passover. Passover is in the springtime which is a season of life, or the morning of the year. Jesus Brought life when he was born and he also brought life when he died and rose. Also, you have to use the Bible Hebrew calendar to figure out the dates, if you use the Roman Gregorian calendar you're going to be confused because the number of days is different
