At the current local rink, when I see new skater, I always stop and share with them your channel. How you take the time to not make all ages feel it’s not stupid or silly to start skating. Just appreciate you so much . Thank you for your videos. Has helped my husband and I.

I wish we had paths like this where I live, but it's just too urban. Ever since I joined roller derby I have those fancy bigger paddy pads to try all this in. I've limited myself to tennis courts and basketball courts but I'm just going to go out and give my neighbors a show because if I wait for the perfect path, I'll be waiting until I die! The bravest I've been to venture out was the parking lot of the rink after they paved it and when I took a kick scooter to the main avenue and fell with no pads on! I've been skating for like 6 yrs atp and the one day I got mad and left the pads is the day I went splat 😂 Not only do my neighbors still ask how I managed to fall but there's some friendly roasting going on too. I've simply got to quad redeem myself 😂. Only you guys could understand that at 41 that just won't due. I'm up and out catch you guys next skate post 🫡😏🤣

I used to search and search for great outdoor surfaces, too often consuming a lot of my skate time. Then I decided to skate new areas, using my skates to explore and tour. This has forced me to learn to skate on so many textures, and deal with many many obstacles. Now the only thing I have to deal with are places that force me to remove my skates. Funny enough, the majority of times I fall are now when I come to a stop, as I almost never stand still on skates anymore. As a result, I often wear only wristguard protection, and I ALWAYS wear wristguards. Been there, broke them!

I'm curious what you mean by 'too urban'. I skate in cities of all kinds, currently I'm in Wash. DC. The biggest issue I have found is wide reliefs along sidewalks. These are the gaps in flat sidewalks. The worst I have found were on and around the Las Vegas strip. Bigger wheels are best, and crossing the gaps on a slight diagonal. Oh, and massive downhills can be tedious and terrifying, like in downtown Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Hondarribia Spain.😮 Just have to use a lot of zigging and zagging, as well as be willing to wear down your toestops and wheels a little. I'm 54 and only started seriously skating 4 years ago. The outdoor skating has really helped. I hope you use these messages to inspire you.😊

I still can’t quite understand how to cruise outdoors. Any tips? I’ve seen your older videos but I’m just missing something I guess Also Could you do a video on transitions. Like where to shift your weight when you’re doing most transitions.

Depending on the curve of the turn I do a spread eagle. My feet just know when the curve is right and it just sort of happens out of instinct after doing it so many times

I can turn outside and I can transition and use the toe to stop.....inside. Outside on the asphalt is a different story. I can do it if I'm going slowly but if I have much speed I feel like my wheels don't slide enough to do the transition. Please, do a video on doing a forward to back and back to forward transition on asphalt. Thank you for all that you share! BTW, I'll be 66 in a few weeks and I started skating in July 2022. Still rolling.

Where is your water!? I've been informed that much of california is in the 100s. I usually get cooled of on the rink itself. Tempo in our building 50c. And yes right turns are my worst I like turn left.

Meanwhile, on the wet side of the Atlantic, much as I'd like to "go practice!" outside, it's forecast to rain for the next two weeks. TWO WEEKS. IN *JUNE*. I am further hindered because anything I do "go practice!" on my lounge floor and get reasonably good at - even clockwise transitions are well on their way at this point - goes out the window as soon as I'm outside, and with the less forgiving surface and the slight undulations and a sniff of a downward slope, I'm reduced to having to put the brakes on a different way and can only do the final turn anticlockwise when I'm down to walking pace. Bah. At this rate, it'll be the 2030s by the time I can do that third move outside and I'll be a 50-something, if I'm still alive.
