How does the Honda Rebel 500 handle a long trip?

I've never driven anything, cause I've always been poor, but my father & mother passed & left me an inheritance, I used it to put a deposit on a Rebel 500 2022, the other day. I looked at it as a once in a lifetime opportunity, especially as I'm turning 40 this July, I'm hoping to start school for riding in August, probably my biggest money and life decision I've ever made. If I'm honest I'm nervous,proud,& excited 😅

it is very comfortable on long distance trip ,I did a 1000km trip, no handle bar vibrations and legs too, dun fell tired at all, only some butt pain...very smooth engine!welldone honda!

@@andymoto im just hoping the rebel will be good long term i keep hearing people saying its weak and they were dying to upgrade after not even a year but im not really caring about power so long as it can get up hills and mountains without struggling and it handles on the highways well. personally i realise most people just love to complain so its hard to figure out the genuine complaints and the people who will never be happy

The rebel will get you up the hills no worries at all, but you still might wanna upgrade lol! If you have an unrestricted licence you could go straight to the 1100. Apparently if you leave it in rain mode it rides like the 500 anyway 😎

You're gaining subscribers every time I check in...and I see why. You're showing a considerable amount of creativity, and I really like what you're doing with the channel. Unless you're a peg dragger, the 500 is almost the perfect bike. Easy to move around, capable cruising speed for just about any situation, and great fun to ride. I agree, the saddle upgrade is a good idea...which I will be doing pretty soon myself. Ride on girl...have fun and stay safe....nice pics at the end btw.

Nice! I did a road trip on my rebel and it did really well. I just recently got a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 250 and really love this little sport bike as I can glide peacefully at highway speeds and still have plenty of passing power. My rebel 500 was way too much power for me but did very well. Look forward to more reviews and road trips! Ride safe ✌️

Have you looked about adding a handle bar spacer? You can get one that actually moves the bar closer to you so you aren’t sitting so high up the tank. Enjoyed your video 😊

I love the CB500F, especially the bigger tank 😀 I think most people buy them based on the style of the bike so Honda should make a CB1100F too 😂but I agree, the 500 is all you need to enjoy the ride!

Hi Brad! Thankyou ☺️ I'm still running the stock tyres. They aren't fabulous on gravel, but they're not too bad on dry dirt roads. I don't mind the stock tyres because I've been able to do everything I've wanted to. Maybe some tyres off the CL500 would work on the rebel if you are doing more dirt, I'm not sure. Hope you're enjoying your new rebel. 😍

It's a GoPro Hero 5 Session. It's a great spot because it doesn't vibrate so you don't need stabilization. 😃

Nice video, I've looking up a lot of reviews, as i'm planning into jumping into motorcycles, with a rebel 500se, and the seat is always mentioned that should be changed, so I don't believe it's you sitting badly, i think it's the actual sit that could be better!

Thanks 😀 Yes, heaps of people are saying that a better seat really helps. I still find that the bars are a fair way away compared to other bikes. This is just part of the Rebel's standard riding position and it should be something you can change with risers, new bars, etc. Have fun getting started, and stay safe 🤗

I bought the cigarette lighter adapter from webike, plugs right in to the harness, the I got a Quadlock pro with the charging head. Phone is plugged in all the time. Getting ready for a big run from south Mississippi to Tennessee. Hope the info helps. Big Mac

That's ok! I love getting some comments 😀 and I know I'm still got a lot of learning to do. One of the main reasons I got the rebel is the low seat height. I'm not very strong and it is still a heavy bike but the weight is all pretty low so it's probably the easiest full size bike to move around and once you get moving it's very easy to control. Hello! Congrats on getting a Rebel! and thanks for watching my videos😀I haven't had or noticed any problem with the clutch cover but I have heard one person say that it sticks out a bit. I always wear proper motorbike boots which protect my lower leg, ankles and feet so maybe that's why I haven't noticed it

@Andy Moto I have learned to lean on one foot and it helps my confidence a lot. I will also shift my butt to one side so I can lean and put one foot fully down. Otherwise I'm like a little dachshund with its legs running a million miles a second trying to tiptoe at the light haha. Sport bikes are definitely a lot of fun as are cruises as everybody has their own tastes.

Hello! I started by watching lots of KZbin videos on motorbike basics, like how to use a clutch, now I'm watching a lot of The Bearded Mechanic to learn more about motorbike mechanics. Motorbike people are also normally really friendly too, so if you can find a nice local group on Facebook there will be heaps of people keen to help you 😃 The biggest thing that helped me was riding a friend's small 125cc bike off road and just practice stopping and starting with no one around. Take your time with it and stay safe 😎

I'm only 5'1, so I definitely felt intimidated when I first learnt to ride it, but now I'm more comfortable on it than the Z125 😂, mostly because the weight is a lot lower. You'll get familiar with knowing where the balance points are. ☺️ Overall, I've found it a pretty light bike in comparison to other cruisers.

I know that you are a Vic rider, I am sounding out views on how the rebel cmx500 would handle the NSW M.O.S.T test. Does the Vic Riders test differ much to NSW? Hopefully your other subscribers may be helpful. I rode round Canberra back in the 80s on a trail bike but the Sydney traffic scared the you know what out of me. Now I in my 60's I plan to get back into it. Being short legged the 500 is low enough get get my leg over. Love the videos.

Thank you 😃 I think you'll love the rebel 😍 I don't know if the Vic test differs much from NSW, I don't think the practical parts would be much different and they are pretty clear about what you need to do to get licenced and you can ask questions if you need to. You could also consider travelling out of the city to do your test, I never really ride in the city or on really busy roads. Ride safe 😎

The rebel is a great first bike! 😍 It's my first bike, and I'm still in love with it. It's great for short and long distance, only thing that might be worth an upgrade is the seat for longer trips. In saying that, I still have the original on. My other video called 'The Honda Rebel is awesome' has my first thoughts which gives my first impressions. 😄 Overall, I would recommend!

I'm 60 years old and have raced expert motocross for many years and owned many motorcycles. I am pleased that your manner of riding is slow & easy. That's how motorcycles are supposed to be ridden. There's a hidden danger in motorcycles if you don't go slow & easy. As far as hitting the tank, a set of 4 inch bar risers would a way to keep you from leaning forward so much and hitting the tank. My assola is gonna get a better seat and better rear suspension, as my back is not the best-thanks to all the crash & burns in my racing days. Hi Andy, thank you for the great video!! I see you are on dirt roads and riding with ease. For such trips would you recommend the new cl500 over Rebel? Cause I want to buy one of them and I'm not sure which one I should get.

Hello OrionPax36!! I found it fairly easy to ride on the dirt, however, it really did depend on the type of gravel as I have struggled on some surfaces and my tyres are stock. The CL500 looks a lot better for dirt and even more versatile. I think it depends on the type of riding you want to do. 😀

I am very short. I have a Triumph t100. Make the bike fit you. I have longer risers and deeper handlebars, this puts me in the correct central riding position. Adjust the angle of the levers, you will notice a large difference in balance and control, far better and more natural. I fitted a medically graded gel pad into he seat, Triumph seats are not comfortable.

Thanks Terry 😀 Yeah, I have been meaning to get my high handlebars installed (I got them because I thought the original ones were bent but when I found out the original bars were fine I didn't end up swapping the bars over). I made a video about this and putting adjustable levers on my bike but again I ended up sticking with the originals. I'm hoping to do a few mods soon 😎

I use a small jumper pack to charge my cams, drone and phone. Then I charge that via USB on bike when needed. Got it from Autobahn

Those dirt roads look really good compared to our dirt/rocky roads here in the Philippines, which are often only a path. A lot of country roads turn into dirt after a few kilometers. I hesitate to ride on our dirt roads with my Rebel 500. They are bound to be rough and muddy. Concerning the mileage, my 2018 bike doesn't have that feature. Is it only on newer bikes?

Yes, I think the rebel can handle some dirt roads 😎 but I wouldn't take it on anything too bumpy or rocky or muddy. The rebel doesn't calculate the mileage, I jus reset the trip meter and recorded how much fuel I used each time I filled up then calculated it for the video 😀

Hi Andy! Im in love also with mi rebel, I have it since just 2 weeks and I'm enjoying every day when I ride it. I have a question regarding vibrations. Mi rebel in sixth gear and from 90 km/h (55-60mph) starts to vibrate a little, I can feel it in the handle bar and also in the mirror that turns a little bit buzzy. It happens in your rebel? Or is completely smooth? Thank your in advance!

Hello! That's awesome, I'm glad your enjoying it 😀I haven't had any issues with the vibration unless I'm using a lower gear than I should, however I haven't ridden any really smooth bikes like touring bikes to compare it to. But I do remember in Fortnine's review of the Rebel 500 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpq6h4ywmNqja68 he said it vibrated quite a bit at higher speeds but I think it's pretty smooth. I guess you could ask your dealer or an experienced rider to take a look at it if you're worried 😀

Hi seku! I've never gone further than 300kms (186miles) in between filling up (normally it's about 250km). Buuuuuut based on the best fuel economy I got on that trip (3.11L/100km) and the size of the tank (11.2L) it's possible to go 3.11/11.7(*100)=360kms (224miles) 🤓

Not sure if you are still riding your Rebel, I have a 23 SE, that I am coming up on 10800 kilometers (6700 miles to me LOL). With in a week I was ordering a new seat (Mustang Solo not gunfighter) which took about 3 weeks. But since then I have had no problem riding all day (7.5 hours just two days ago). And I put a phone mount and USB port on about a month ago. I just love this bike. Glad to have watched your video, I am planning a very long road trip and enjoy listening to others experiences.

@@BlueJay56 when i came home from Turkey (Air Force) i was on a bus, and we passed some cows, you could smell cow dung, i made a comment about how good it smelled, people looked at me like i was nuts. Turkey smells like a human cesspool!! cow poop is so much better---as far as poop smells anyway.
