Hey Glamfam! In this video I am discussing what is really happening to the hair when you are flat ironing your hair. This is important information to know because there can not only be issues of heat damage, but also of a loss of hydration. This , when done repeatedly can cause issues with dryness. The number one cause of breakage is dryness, so we want to ensure we are correctly identifying and solving the issue. As always, if you have any questions, let me know in the comments! Until next time y'all, take care, God bless, and stay glam!

This is why I've always done my own hair. My natural hair presses straight at 360-375 with one pass. Every two weeks I flat iron it and my coil pattern is still intact...unfortunately. Its perfect. I always makre your to have a leave in moisturizer as well as a geat protectant spray in my hair before blow drying and then i straighten. Hair is soft and sleek with just 2 passes and the chase method. I have tried straightening with no product and my hair wont go sleek or shiny, and it has loads of frizz like you said. I never thought of the steam that I saw when I flatironed my hair as moisture loss before. But it definitely makes sense. Do you teach your students how to do tape in hair extensions as well? I recently watched a number of videos of people who had them done. The interesting thing is that I haven't heard how they are removed. I've wondered if they put any strain on the person's on hair? Or if they caused any damage or thinning long term? They do look really natural though. And it was good to see that you uploaded a video. The slick back is still slicking.
@denisemoore9316

The same can be said about perms, another chemical that straightens the hair AND can actually be deadly, yet no professional ever talks about that because they’re scared of telling the truth. Back to flat irons, I haven’t used one since high school and that was a decade ago. Growing up I had a fascination with long and straight hair for many years. I still like it, but I no longer have a desire to change my own hair texture because I love it, God blessed me with length and it makes me unique.

The timing of this video couldn't have been better. I had just flat-ironed my hair for the first time in over a year a week ago and had no idea why it was so dry afterwards. Like most people, I thought the smoke was because the iron was too hot, and not that it was steam as the moisture was coming out. You know what else it does? Sets of smoke alarms in college residence halls. Multiple times a week. For the love of your hair, your locak fire department and your campus fire safety employee, USE A HEAT PROTECTANT. And maybe do your hair in your bathroom instead of your bedroom?

I do this pass over the same piece a few times ,but I do it because I dont use high heat...do silicone base products prevent heat damage?? Also which causes more damage the flat iron or the old fashion hot comb I dont remember my hair reverting as much back when I use the comb ....What's the best heat protective sprays/serums??

Lynwood Help! My natural hair always smells burnt after straightening it with clean barely used flat iron. If I use less than 375 it will not get as smooth or straight... When I apply the heat protection spray do I need to let it dry before using the flat iron?? 😢 I only flat iron once a year!

Now I don’t want to apply heat ever! This explains why I need a deep condition after getting a silk out. It always seems to damage my fine 4c hair quickly. My poor strands can’t afford to lose any water. Maybe why I like gel? ( non alcohol, I do listen and sometimes take action🤣.) Thanks for sharing.

Happy wonderful August celebrating my birthday through August 31st I celebrate July through August. I really loved seeing you on Instagram never knew you had KZbin.🎉 Can you please tell us what are some great conditioners that don't have alcohol in them that's good for 4C hair and a good color brand whether it's Clairol L'Oreal recki that's a great dark brown like a walnut?. If one wears braids I've seen where many people on Instagram may go into a weave and they'll have someone too thinly braid their hair in the circle. I've seen will one lady when a year I think that's disgusting I could see going 90 days although she did shampoo it and condition it.😳🥴👩🏻‍⚕️⚕️🤪🤦🏻‍♀️🤔 Thank you for being an awesome teacher I really appreciate you

I had the top stylist at a supposedly high-end, popular salon tell me that no amount of heat from repetitive straightening and drying as well, for DECADES would make my hair less curly. I explained to her how curly my hair once was and asked what time I needed to give it to be healthy again where my curls would come back more defined. She argued until I gave up, telling me that I do not have curly hair and that can not happe to people. 😂 I stopped on my own to see and in six months my hair is curlier than I ever even remember it being when I was younger. I'm saving up to go to the one person I know in my area who specializes in curly hair and get some tips on embracing it!!

Hello Lynwood where can I purchase THIS PARTICULAR mannequin? I see the link but that’s a natural hair mannequin. I would like to purchase one like you have in the video. Or has this one been processed? I am a licensed stylist btw.

@@GetGlamFam I don’t use heat anymore but I remember a time when I was using a curling iron on my hair and later on I got caught in the rain and my hair smelled awful. I don’t remember exactly what it smelled like, but I do know it was awful and it stemmed from using the curling iron. What’s your thoughts my super hero Linwood?

I lose so much hair each day, it just flys out in whole strands, not breakage. Even after a wash and using mousse I have so much excess hair loss. Most time I air dry. What would be the best product for me to try? TIA

I haven’t flat ironed my hair for years now. I also shaved off my head during Covid and started brand new. I have 3C type curls I still get breakage my hair is tingly and puffy. Ever since I had my last child, this has been an issue. What is so strange is that my hair is never dry and it’s super shiny.

I dare even to say leave the titanium to the professionals and use ceramic at home. Every time they make professional quality tools and products "at-home" friendly, I be like now why y'all do that? Y'all know folks ain't gonna do right with it 🤣😂😭

I stopped ironing months ago as my hair was breaking. You’re putting oven temperatures on your hair with a flat iron. Bloody stupid idea.

Use homemade coconut oil for damaged hair. Once a week dipping your hair in coconut milk will also deeply condition it and will add that lost hydration.
