Over the years, Valve has solidified itself as one of the pillars of modern esports and video games.
What started off as a game development operation, spearheaded by two former Microsoft employees, has grown into an immense conglomerate of games, esports tournaments, and digital content sales.
And yet despite all this, not much is known about the company.
But what has remained crystal clear throughout the years is that Valve is one of the most important, and lucrative, gaming companies in the world. This is its story.

No matter your issues with Valve just remember, if the market share on pc gaming wasn't controlled by valve, it could have been EA or Google. Things are not so bad.

For Dota fan, that game is such a loregasm, and for card game lover, its the first time a card game is this polished. But it fail on execution and Richard Garfield who doesn't listen to the community feedback long before the game release. I recomend watching the video "the death of Artifact" on why Richard Garfield is such a moron.

@@118neihc i did enjoy it, but the more I played there's a lot of gameplay balancing problem on that game. What I'm trying to say is, Artifact is still a polished product with high production value, eventhough the execution is bad (thx Richard Garfield). Because holy shit, Artifact is so polished that its baffling. Can you imagine all cards is voiced? And its not even a single voice line, its multiple voice line with occasional banter when played or fighting other card. It trully is awesome for card game.

Still find it funny when people think they "made" counter-strike. They improved a mod in the early 2000's, then released their own game, CS:S which is considered to be the worst, and then contracted Hidden Path to make CSGO which took 3 years after launch to blow up. Again, Dota was a mod that they later just developed and published a clone of the mod to say they "made" the game. Their single player games however, are quite good, no arguing that.

I genuinely laughed at the fact that TF2 was barely mentioned, yes it was shown in the visual aspect but the mention of the game or even referring to it by the narrators was less then 10 times, the game really deserves more notice, especially its e-sports, trust me when i say it's under appreciated.

Valve got DRM right. Most don't even consider steam DRM; which is a testament to just how right they got it. That's because Steam is what I like to call: Value added DRM. A cracked steam game is typically worth less than its legitimate counter part. Meaning people always have a reason to go out and buy the steam version of a games they pirated. Updates are handled for you automatically. Modding, due to the workshop, is becoming less doable with cracked copies and many games rely on steam to handle their multiplayer. Steam's DRM might not be the hardest thing to crack, but a cracked version is nearly always the inferior version.

Steam revolutionized the gaming concept in a way USA and Europe could not even imagine. At least Im asuming that, since i've not seen it mentioned in the video. For me, being from South America, getting games was extremeley hard during pre-steam era: they were simply non existant, and if they did exist, they were extremely expensive. Let alone gaming consoles and a proper gamer PC. Piracy was the only option. Steam allowed me to finally get ALL the games of my favorite franchise (Total War games, and yes; I own everyone of them); and I am now writing this comment with my Steam Library showing my proudly owned 76 (no Fallout pun intended) game library, and more than 3000 hours on DotA 2. You made a former child happy for many years, and make an actual adult happy everyday. Thank you, forever.

let's talk about these "refund scandals": we all clicked the "yes, i agree" knowing full well it says something in there about american vs local laws and owning the rights to our firstborn son's soul or some shit like that. The only reason these companies dont take the lawsuit to a higher court is because it is really, really bad PR. i know it the word scandal gets you views and allowed you to build a proper good vs evil narrative, but this mindless shit has got to stop.
@MeAMoose
@MeAMoose 3 жыл бұрын
The usual wording is that Local Law > American Law, more commonly worded as "as far as the law is applicable in your local area" or "unless stated otherwise by local law" etc. The reason for this is usually because American law is only enforceable in... America. Countries such as the UK and Australia with Consumer Rights acts which grant legal requirements to provide refunds under circumstances would require businesses to localise their shopfronts.

You should make video about old video game champions and e-sports hall of famers that contributed big that inspired recent iconic players locally and internationally. WCG champions and etc. So that everyone also know who are the giants back in the days when we still freely played our favorite games and dont have our own child and family. lol. Valve may not have done everything right, no individual or company can, but for the most part, according to my knowledge, Valve has not functioned like a soulless corporate entity like most giant companies. Left 4 Dead is weird compared to other Valve games since that seems to be one of Valves least favorite games? When they show stuff of their office you don't really see L4D stuff. Also L4D was how I first learned about Valve. I didn't own the game but I played it with my friends a bit. It sort of seems weird to me that there are groups of people that for some reason seem to think that L4D was the only good game that Valve made. It's as if they have never played any of the other stuff Valve made.

4:37 How did Steam flounder back then? I remember having it on my PC ever since it came out and it was never offline, except for you know, random downtimes like with any internet-based company. It was used mainly to find servers for Counter Strike 1.5 and 1.6, especially via LAN. I am trying hard to recall it ever floundering, because it was literally just that, a hub for server searches and it never tried to be anything more than that, UNTIL the full Steam we all know today was eventually released, but up until that point, Steam performed its role perfectly; everyone I knew was playing CS and using Steam.
